I have some nice cigar boxes. I am a newbie to the world of fountain pens. Nevertheless, I am a crafter, maker, or whatever you want to call it these days, and I want to try making one of these with cardboard, a cigar box and vintage velvet for the lining.

I don't like either rum or cigars, but the boxes got a thumbs up from me. As a Swede, I store all my pens in an IKEA shelf with a fabric box I can't remember the name of where I keep the pens in their original boxes. The pens I got without boxes I make origami style boxes for. I have an old phone box that just happened to fit a bunch of those, which then makes it about the size similar to other pen boxes.
I tend to keep a few too many pens inked at a time, resulting in that they stay inked a very long time. So I usually like the digging and cleaning and changing out my active pens whenever I run out of ink in one.

I just picked up a balsa wood box with a window from Dollarama for, I think $3. It's called a memory box and the window is supposed to hold a photo. Just remove the piece of wood that is meant to hold the photo in, paint and you have a nice display box. If you don't have a router, look for floral foam and cover with felt. Also check out the tools section - they have some nice plastic boxes with sections for nibs, cartridges, converters, etc. These are $3-4 for small or large.

Pretty cool setup you have in there :). I don't have a router but I like those cigar cases.
Where do you get them from?
Personally I like to see my pens. So here is another idea if you want (or anyone else). I'm using the jewellery acrylic cases.
The best acrylic 5 drawer cases are at Muji store :) (hint on your last video; whenever you go back there) look for the 5 drawers one! The width is long enough to to accommodate pens as long as 15.4cm. And on length you can add up to 16 pens / drawer... so a box can hold up to 160 pens.
I use the thinnest dowels I can find at HomeDepot and thick paper (cheap water color paper sheet is perfect) to create my base and separate the slots; and then from Michael's store I buy the sheets of velvet-ish material with glue on one side and lay it over the dowels and base paper.
Results are pretty snazzy and I get to see what pens are where and in what drawer :). I have them put inside a bookcase with square shelf from Ikea with an LED light above them. Makes for a pretty view at night :).

The Brooklyn Eagle noted in 1873, speaking no doubt from experience, Milk Punch is “the surest thing in the world to get drunk on, and so fearfully drunk, that you won't know whether you are a cow, yourself, or some other foolish thing.” That's my kind of drink. 🥳 Cheers !

I say this in all humility as i have no experience with such projects, just a question you sound like you can answer either from failed previous experimentation or actually knowing the dimensions of room to work with, just looks like there's JUST enough room for one more with tighter measuring.
