Crowbar is my all time favorite band and this was a great interview. I've been lucky enough to have met Kirk and the band several times over the years and gotten some cool collectables like a stage set list, signed pictures and posters, picks, etc. I was Crowbar Heavyweight Support Team member #126 back in the early 90s. I saw them in Minneapolis one time and the drummer at the time, Tony Costanza, hadn't shown up yet for sound check (he might have gotten in jail at the previous show, if memory serves) so I played drums (badly) for the sound check which was really cool. I bought a Fender Strat from Kirk one time too. Ex-bassist Jeff Golden designed my band's logo. and Matt Brunson helped me set up my current guitar rig via email. I haven't met Shane yet, but they're always super nice guys in person!

I first saw crowbar back in 94 with souls at zero aka wrathchild america. They played in Oklahoma City and he was saying they were from New Orleans. I met Kirk after the show and he was so cool to talk. Real down to earth and then I started picking at him that fat city isn't really New Orleans. He never got rattled and listening to him today he is still the same person I met 25 yrs ago. I love his music. Crowbar, Down, Kingdom of Sorrow, etc. He should write a book.

I saw Pantera once: Feb 2001 @ Grand Rapids Michigan and it was BY FAR the best concert experience I ever had. I was barely 18 and got in the pit with these MONSTERS and mixed it up... It was surreal. Nobody comes close. Down and Crowbar are #2 or #3 in either order for me... You could toss in COC too @ 4th for me. I saw Pantera and Type O.
It was great, as you can imagine.
Peter was drinking from a bottle and Phil came out on stage with them, Phil kept reaching for the bottle and Peter comically said "wants everything, this kid." He hands Phil the bottle which to all of us looked like a normal beer bottle, when Phil has it in hand you could see it was a LARGE bottle of wine! Lol. Peter was a massive dude, personality, humor, talent. A hero.
All of em. The 90's metal was fun, I didnt know during it that I would look back with such fond feelings.
      Such is life.

@@richl1860 ah that's right I can't believe I forgot about that thanks. Was the order like this: Carnivore-->Subzero-->Type O? Or did Subzero predate Carnivore?

Peter was the only member of Type o that was in carnivore. They tried going by repulsion but it was already taken then subzero but already taken. Im glad they chose type o negative for their name cause it's perfect and I couldn't see a better name for them. Type o Negative is my favorite band of all time...forever negative

I remember a kid from high school playing me a " tape" of a metal band that he liked to go see, they were called SubZero. He was from up in Burlington VT, a college town, so they got a lot of cool underground metal bands coming through. The Subzero I heard was unrelated to Type O. He was into another band from that time that was Rad as hell called Sam Black Church. Dont know if anybody out here on the interwebs remembers them? Cool stuff. A lot of great bands floating around above and below the surface.

Seems like the kind of guy you'd like to have a beer with, Hangout, and maybe throw down on a jam or two.

Sub Zero. But it was taken so they already had the logo so they changed the name to Type O Negative.
