Note: documentation file exists - music cue sheets etc. This documentary uses a nice device - people supposedly from the country featured speaking about their impressions of the royal visit. Probably actors but still quite cute.

The return of the Queen and Duke after six months was greeted so enthusiastically by the ordinary people of London. They seem genuinely delighted to see them again. These old films show just how much the Queen and her family were loved and honoured. Almost religiously. I understand that before tv you had to be there to see it. It seems like a more personal relationship between the monarchy and its people even though they were so much more distant than now. Monarchy doesn't make sense yet there's no denying the popularity of the British monarch.

Of course they show a pretty queen with a wonderful family. She was also queen of most commonwealth countries. In Africa, this same pretty face was a different figure. She was brutal, merciless, painful and the traumatic effects of her reign on African soil are felt to this day.

@@dugebuwembo With all due respect, you wouldn't make such a comment if it were African royals.
What exactly did the British monarchs and Britain do to Africa?.
In pre colonial times some parts of Africa had managed to establish some Kingdoms that metamorphosed into empires though these empires were very very weak compared to European countries, these African rulers oppressed the weak territories around them for centuries, killing their men and raping their women and even selling them to the Europeans at the coast, from where they would be shipped to the Americas.
Nobody here in Africa has ever blamed the Asante in modern Ghana, the Dahomey in Benin republic, the Oyo and Benin in Nigeria for their role in the transatlantic slave trade.
I am a Nigerian and I live in Nigeria, let's stop blaming the British, French and other Europeans because African ancestors were not saints.

This was her first big overseas tour as Queen, I believe. Britain hadn’t had the suez crisis just yet and the monarchy was still incredibly popular, so they could do this. I can’t see the same happening with Charles due to our cost of living crisis and the fact that less people do support the monarchy than they did back in the 1950’s.

@@noahwilliams3718 I am Nigerian. I just finished watching this this May 1954 video . The late British monarch her majesty Queen Elizabeth II was 28 at the time.
The mammoth crowd that came to welcome her majesty was very impressive.
Today a handful of Britons say they are republicans and even had to cause a stir with the NOT MY KING nonsense before and during the coronation of her son and successor his majesty King Charles III. It's not the best
Modernity and technological advancement does not mean people have to throw away respected ancient institutions. I know the republic is a small body for now parents should tell their children the advantages of the British constitutional monarchy because they provide unity and stability for Great Britain.
God bless the soul of Queen Elizabeth II and God save King Charles III. Signing out from Nigeria.
