    My son and daughter in-law. I felt like I was in some crazy movie. Starting from the phone call I received when he was in the ambulance. Me heading to the hospital that was only a few miles from my home then in Chico. The hospital was shut down no one was allowed in. Security and officers escorted me too Ryan and Hayley. I went in and of course I was crying. Ryan grabbed my hand and he said Mom I'm alive. I smiled and said yes you are. His hands were sticky from blood. He was covered in cuts up and down his arms. From the Shrapnel is what I was told. I don't remember the doctor's name either that Ryan talks about in the podcast but I do remember looking down and he had cowboy boots on. I sat with Ryan daily listening to the story unfold again and again. I still have not been back to that store or parking lot. To this day when I see a car with dark tinted windows my heart speeds up. I'm so Thankful they both are doing good, I wish Ryan had no more migraines and for a while I kept wanting him to teach at a academy. I have said many prayers 🙏 nightly to watch over him protect him. I have always asked for God to give him skills, wisdom, instincts beyond normal. My Pray for Booker was the same. I'm so Thankful that he always has trained before he was old enough for the academy he was the SWAT Dummy for Chico Police department. That's what I called him anyways he would come home and tell me stories about the scenarios they played that day and sometimes he would get the drop on the SWAT guys training and he was so excited when he nailed one of them. He had a few bruises throughout his body even though he wore protective gear from the rubber bullets or whatever they used to get to him with. He has wanted to be an officer since he was I believe in kindergarten. I am beyond proud of both him and Hayley for everything they do everyday. I have met another or talk to another officer I to I've always said I believe it's the training and to never stopped training just keep training as long as it's available and like Ryan and Hayley both said it is not available go out and find it.
    Thank you for listening

    Ryan came to my rescue the first week he was back in duty after this incident he's talking about. I held a burglar at gunpoint for 15 minutes at 3am that was continually trying to get a weapon out of his vehicle. Because the county is huge and I'm at the very south end but I tell you what from my vantage point i could see TCSO CHP AND CPD flying toward my location.
    Ryan went over and above to get DNA from the scumbag and gave the DA a very good case and sent the guy to prison. The same guy stole over 20k of my things out of my shop the night before that i never recovered because the guy took it all out of the county. I didn't have insurance but I've never been so impressed with the effort and diligence Ryan put into my case. He's the kind of guy that all police officers should strive to be like.
    Thank you Ryan.

    Amazing story. You're sitting with a true hero right here. To hear what goes through, just an officer's, mind when you encounter evil,someone like this, having been shot at and hit. He still shot back, re-racked his gun and laid 5 deadly shots in this evil person.

I’ve been in OIS’, and have also been shot with an AK47 (as a first grade student in 1989 and before I was a cop). This episode resonated with me. Through is 23+ career so far I’ve always worried about that. He investigated the OIS part of it. I remember hearing the radio traffic later after the incident. It gave me chills. Wow - some story!! The one thing about being a "big city" cop (NYPD), is KNOWING that when the shit hits, massive backup is literally just a minute or two away, even taxi cabs with plainclothes drivers will be among the calvary. We called it a "10-13" officer needs assistance (13 being an "unlucky" number), and the RMP's (radio motor patrol - police cars) would be dispatched as Code 3 , lights and sirens.
    I'm glad that I never worked anything "rural", not knowing if/when another unit would be able to come to my aid in time.
    Very glad that he and she survived - they were very lucky/fortunate.

    As a retired fire chief I have the world of respect for police officers as well as 911 communicators (dispatchers). Communicators are the first line of defense, the table setters if you will. They can make or break an incident. They don’t typically get paid anywhere near enough given their responsibilities. Years back I was very nearly killed on a medical emergency and was barely able to get my radio out while fighting with the guy who was armed with a very large knife and was doing his best to stab me in the chest. All I could transmit, without identifying myself was the police radio signal for “armed and dangerous. The communicator heard me, recognized my voice, recognized that I was in serious trouble and got me ALL of the help I needed. The bad guy was, after trial, sent to a psychiatric detention center and eventually died there.

    • @rfrank02855
      @rfrank02855 Před rokem +3

      It was not. Not sure if you watched the podcast, but I explained why I didn’t. Granted my reason didn’t justify me doing a search solo. But that’s just kinda how we did things where I worked. Backup was not always available and for a proactive cop you kinda get into a hurry and just learn how to operate solo. Once again I don’t recommend that and it’s not how I do it now. Lesson learned

    Glad they made it through that. At 46:53 I think you hit the nail on the head- a lot of police are afraid to train because they are afraid to "look bad" or " be shown up" in front of others, especially non police. Who do you think trains more and way harder: everyday people at a BJJ gym or police doing DT training days? Who trains more and better with their dogs, police doing the one day a week near by department training (which is typically run away bites only) or non police working their dogs in tracking, protection or scent work? Same thing at the range. Police should stop being afraid to get on the mat with others or work their dog at local club etc.

    A little late to the game on this video, but it just popped up on my recommended after watching a dashcam video of a pursuit. Not sure if the officer in the video or the channel themselves will even answer this, but I'll ask anyway. You see a person from a distance removing their plate. Why immediately jump to "oh, that's suspicious."? Im genuinely curious because from the mind of a car guy who has always enjoyed the LEO line of work i sort of understand it but at the same time I'd also be thinking that the person is modifying it with a plate holder or taking it off because they have a legal customized plate that they are switching the boring basic one out for.

    1:04:24 I hope that officer will read these comments because I think black salve(legit stuff from South America, if you can get your hands on it) might help pull the bullet pieces that are just beneath the skin to the surface because of it's powerful "drawing" action. People have pulled out entire tumors and skin cancers with this stuff for many decades. If you look up some stories of people using it, they can be pretty graphic but show the power of black salve (I believe the main ingredient is called blood root or red root?)
