    One thing I did before I decided to have a family, is be tested to ensure I did not have something that could be passed along to a child.. I had a friend while I was growing who had a nephew with muscular dystrophy. When the family was tested, it turned out the mother was the one who passed it on to her son. Also although I learned to live with a physical disability, I would not want to pass that on to a child and have them deal with what I did growing up.

      I have a genetic disorder neurofibromatosis type 1 (its been mentioned before on this channel) but its autosomal dominant, so 50/50 shot at passing it on. They can do PGD now to use IFV to make sure I dont pass on my defective gene. I have a healthy little girl because of this amazing procedure :)

    • @berserkerbard
      @berserkerbard Před 5 měsíci

      I feel like that way of thinking is too similar to eugenics. Some people have conditions they will pass on that they can’t be tested for and some people have genetic conditions they might have passed on but never did. The point is, we can’t control what happens to our children or other people’s, but they still deserve life, just like anyone alive living with these conditions. Otherwise we are saying some people have less of a right to live than others. You can say it’s personal choice not to have children, but that personal choice can affect a lot of people and, if you’re not careful, in a negative way.

    • @lovelymill
      @lovelymill Před 4 měsíci +9

      @@berserkerbard if people decide to not have a children because of their genes, it is their right to do so. the make decision for THEMSELVES, not trying to make everyone do the same. may I ask if you have a physical disability or an autoimmune disease? are you speaking theoretically or from your own experience?
      let's suppose you have a child, they have developed a disease transmitted from you or your partner, they find out about it in the hospital in the future and come to you with the question - "did you know that you have this disease?". what will you say to them? "oh yes, I'm sorry, I was so selfish, I wanted a child so much that it didn't matter to me whether I passed on this disease or not, after all, we can't prevent everything that happens in our lives, can we?"
      is that it?

      @@lovelymill thank you for defending my (and others) decision. Its not goddamn eugenics. How would it have been different than if there theoretically was a 100% cure, and taking that cure. Is that eugenics too? >:( I hate that argument so much. I almost died at 18, my friend with it died at 21. Why would I want to pass this gene on and risk watching my child suffer and die over virtue signaling

    On the fish skin grafts. I wonder if the doctor was concerned about these growths spreading to the place she would be taking a skin graft. I am not sure how easily these growths spread on the body. if the skin is damaged, could growths start appearing? I guess using fish skin would remove that risk.

      Fish skin is used for wound care for a few reasons. It acts as a barrier to prevent pathogens from entering the body. It acts like a lattice the boys can use to quicker replace the missing skin cells. And it doesn’t require you to make an original skin graft from the host person.
