It's such a shame how audiences can be blinded by the 4th wall so easily. Also, it's ironic how comedians such as yourself happen to be the only creators I see who actually give serious messages like this every once in a while. Eg. Lewis Spears, FriendlyJordies, Charles Ross, they all at some point have put on their serious face for disclaimers and underlying issues. Anyways, thanks ScubagDad for trying your best to educate the latest generation despite them despite it not working. My eye is even keener now because of this.
I absolutely love your critiques of annoying trends and “kindness content” is def my fave. These influencers need to be called out for what they’re doing: exploiting vulnerable people.
Knew there's something fishy about that guy ever since I watched more and more videos of him, it's really sad how everything "kindness" in internet is just them taking advantage of people in need
I was watching a team building video at work and they talked about brain chemistry and the chemical Endorphins. Apparently they can be triggered by not just helping other but by watching others be “helped”. Those content are not only doing what you said but they are basically manipulating how our brain’s function for profit.
there are hundreds of millions of people out there who are uncritically consuming this garbage because they want to feel validated about their worldview. they see kindness content and think "ah, this guy is being nice, my faith in humanity is restored" and they don't need to confront the realities about the world. that people are suffering and no one is stepping in to help unless there's some kind of financial incentive.
And my point is: how is pointing that out more helpful than the people making the kindness content? Yes, they're exploiting people for content to make money but they are actually doing something to help at least. Talking about how it's exploiting people doesn't actually help those people.
Ok lets say jimmy darts and similar people are actually just wanting to get money from this. Even if that was true they ARE helping people in their lowest times. Plus does anybody have any proof that he doesnt ask for permission to publish the video?
You're the man. Thanks for your great videos, both comic and serious. Also wanna say I respect you for saying your bit and then also realizing when there's a point that you're done with it. Cheers

I agree 100% that these kindness influencers should at least ask permission to post the videos. I think the hidden camera is ok but they should ask the person after if they are willing to let the video be posted and delete it if they want it to be deleted.
I appreciate your voice of criticism. I love that we can have nuanced discussions on these trends, thanks for being a spearhead of that. My opinion is filming someone without their consent unless illegal is not nearly as unethical as some other kindness content creators have acted. It may or may not be illegal.
I'm absolutely sure that these "kindness" content creators probably boost their own egos with the belief that they are doing only good, not considering that they truly are taking advantage of people at their lowest point. Some words to live by: If you are ready to give, do it with the expectation that there will be nothing to gain.
It is a sad state of affairs. Having said that, I pray for these people to get out of their desperate situations. I would never want anyone to get into such a low point where even accepting money from a kindness influencer seems like a relief.
I appreciate this, earlier this week I unfortunately got trapped in a short-form content loop and was seeing a lot of these. Something felt hollow about them but I couldn't put my finger on it.
The widespread blind & dumb acceptance to this stuff, and the exploitative, sick & clout chasing content that has shown itself in the past few years online more particularly really sucks..
