I've been watching youtube videos for 6+ hours unsuccessfully .. and finally found this video and I'm so happy I could cry
...and I could cry because this process obviousely must be that complicated... great tutorial, thanks!
SAVED MY CAREER. I had someone who sent me footage shot in 4k Portrait style. A Very ODD format, that adobe don't have on the list. The customer support at Adobe did not know how to handle this. Thank you.
I almost never comment on these things... But I have to say, thank you for a very clear, concise, thorough explanation. Well done!
one of the easiest to understand ingest and export presets. saves my life with 4k footage on an older 2015 macbook pro with minimal ram. Thanks!
thanks for the info, I've spent days trying to figure out how to create custom proxy! thanks
Wow. Just great! Thank you so much for this clear and concise presentation on how to create ingest presets to make proxies. 😊
This was very helpful. Exactly what I needed to see. Thank you!
I was in a middle of a project when I found this tutorial and it saved me hours!!
Thank you very much!
Thankyou so much, very clear explanation ! I've been confused for a long time, and now I can scrub through the project easily.
This is a great tutorial and the only one I found that actually shows you the proper way to create a custom ingest preset. I couldn't find this on the Adobe site. Would love it if Premiere Pro would create a 1080p ProRes proxy ingest preset that's available in the standard list. I'm shooting 4K and trying to edit multicam footage in 1080p.
This tutorial is the GOAT
THIS VIDEO CHANGE MY WORKFLOW FOR GOOD.. THANK YOU
Clean and concise explanation. Than you very much
It will be nice when I can finally remember this workflow so I spend less time watching tutorials to save time, rather than jumping right in to edit. But thank you for an excellent and easy to follow tutorial. It helped me deal with the 5.3K GoPro files that are tough to edit without proxies.
Cant thank you enough for this video - solid gold!!!
Perfect information and explanation. Thank you so much!
Thanks man!! That was amazing. Really helpful
Excellent explanation! Thanks so much for sharing this information.
duro crack,,, llevaba buen rato buscando este video, me funcionó
waiting for media encoder to see if this works for me, even if it doesn't this was a smooth ass clear tutorial thanks. Also nice goat.
No need for this anymore with Premier Pro 24.2 Feb 2024 update!! There is a new custom option now under the new "Frame size" drop down. Thank you so much for this youtube link over the years though. Amazing it took years for a perfect proxy workflow. Better late than never :)
Thanks Buddy ! helped me a lot ! hope u have a good day !
Great tutorial, valuable info. THANKS!
3 hours ago I sat down to make a new video in Premiere Pro using clips shot on the new iPhone SE. And this video was the final puzzle besides finding various codecs, changing folder permissions and of course watching endless amount of youtube videos not getting the precise problem. Those lost 3 hours should have put me halfway through editing by now. Instead I'll go to bed. Thanks Apple, Adobe and Microsoft for this evil collab 😈😲💀
the only helpful video on CZcams according to the question
Brilliant video. thanks so much
very helpful, guys! thanks!
Thanks, best video for this kind of issue!
@PSHIFT FILMS Thank you so much! 🫶
Amazing explanation. Thanks.
Thanks! it was very clear and usefull
bro i would be so lost without this vid haha, thanks dude!
this video saved my life!!!!!!
Thank you very much. You just solve my problem 🙏🏼❤️
You sir SAVED MY LIFE!
Thank you.
Super helpful, thanks!!!!
Nice teaching. Thank u
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Thank you soooooo much !
❤️❤️
Excellent work. I was struggling to create a VR proxy for a 360 camera. The latest Premiere export menu is all new (and not in a good way).
Thanks a lot!
Muito bom, perfeito, parabéns!
Premiere CC 2020 requires a folder selection under 'Transcode files to Destination'. Just create/choose a dummy folder just so that it can create the preset. You can still choose which folder you want the proxies to go to when you're creating the ingest settings.
This is a very helpful tip. Why does adobe do such nonsense when 'browse for location' option should be fine.
Thanks for your comment, it helped me to solve the problem.
Typical ADOBE bull shit. They can never create a simple process. Somebody in QA tells the programmers to make 2 or 3 non-sensical non-intuitive steps. Happens every time.
good stuff, thanks for sharing!
Oh my god, thank you so much for this tutorial 🙃
THANK YOU !!
Thanks for this tutorial. Helps a lot
Are you Indo?
@@B3Band Yes
you helped me a lot . I love you bro.
❤️❤️
Thank you
More like this, please!
Thanks!!
THANK YOU
great video!
Wonderful stuff! Question?
If I have footage, 1080p and UHD 3840x and TRUE DCI/Cinema 4096x - Do I need to USE a different Proxy preset for each one, or will one Proxy Preset do? Thanks for your help.
clear explanation
Nice tutorial. Why Adobe makes it so difficult to create custom proxies is hard to understand. It should take three steps and 10 seconds. Not 33 steps and 33 minutes (if you can follow this tutorial.) This program is not user friendly and frustrating to use ALL OF THE TIME.
you are a hero
thanks!
Woww I frikin love this stuff I really want to get good at it and I love adobe. I had no idea about this feature, it sounds like this will let me make bigger more complicated projects? I've been breaking up my stuff into separate projects because they're kinda heavy for what I have. I've also been forced to limit my recording quality to compensate. Although I do usually have fun with my final products, I am always aiming to get them bigger better and looking more slick
thaks for being succinct and efficient instead of rambling on - great tutorial
Great tutorial.
🥳
thank you!!!!!!!!!
good work
Who's the trainer - excellent, clear and concise, well done.
Thanks, exactly what I was looking for! I found if I gave my Presets an unusual filename (such as starting with "Proxy_") then I can just Search for the preset name when click Add Ingest Preset.
helpful!
I LOVE YOU BRO
I found this VERY helpful (btw, I used to breed champion Boer goats, and loved the clip of a goat you used for this video :-). So, using what you taught here, what I came up with that has completely changed the performance of how I edit, beyond setting scratch disks, hardware GPU, proxies, etc... I noticed that Adobe gets extremely Disk IO bottle necked. So what I did was to take my Alienware laptop, which lets me install 3 NVMe ssd sticks. I use a cheaper one (Samsung NVMe 960 evo 256GB) for my O/S and Adobe software to be installed on, I use a faster one (Samsung NVMe 960 pro 512GB) for all scratch & databases, I use another fast NVMe (Samsung NVMe 970 pro 1TB) for all proxy files, and I store ALL media sources (RAW video, MP4 video, RAW images, WAV 32bit audio, etc) and a Thunderbolt attached Drobo with 5x8TB WD Red drives for 32TB usable but redundant array. My editing speed has literally gotten to the point, that I am having to learn how to process in my head faster, where I used to have such sluggishness in the edit that I was able to take my time thinking about the next move. It was fast before with my set up I mentioned, but I wanted to thank you, because setting up these export and ingest Presets has greatly improved my workflow of using proxies. It was such a pain in the arse before and results would vary, that I stopped using them. But I am not using them and with hardly any time on my part with a repeatable consistent result. So thank you for the time I'm sure this video took you to put together.
Here's my next issue to solve. I normally use Red Giant's Plural Eyes 4 to sync up my video and separate audio tracks. I've gotta learn how to adjust this workflow to include using Plural Eyes 4 to work with proxies. I know I can just do it in Adobe, but on longer video clips I have seen Premiere drift by the time I get to the end of the clip. Plural Eyes somehow avoids drift.
QUESTION: How do you work in this workflow the use of external audio and syncing it with proxies, especially when using a Third Party software to do the sync'ing?? Thank you so much
To my complete surprise, I just tried doing my normal thing with Reg Giant Plural Eyes 4 in the app. I went to the same media location as all of the full size original video files are and dragged them with the external audio clips into the Plural Eyes tool, and did a synchronize. It worked great of course, and I then exported the results as a Premiere sequence and dragged that exported sequence into premiere like normal. Premiere AUTOMATICALLY let me use the proxies yet with the replaced audio from Plural Eyes. Adobe must have a good design on how they do proxies, such that the use of proxies (toggling on and off) is not known to 3rd party or effects or anything. Just pure magic. Thanks again
God Thank You So Much!!!
I was so mad because i couldn't find the preset i just made as i specified a destination but it wasn't there, but eventually found it in the documents folder, many thanks
but when i select it in premiere it gives an error.. ill do it all over and see
it automatically created 2 preset files, one with the name.epr, the second name_1.epr
name.epr gives error, name_1.epr works
not sure why
At 5:45 you leave the Destination field blank. This doesn't occur in Media Encoder 2020. Since I always want to specify the location of my proxy files, I left "Browse for Location". But wait! That generates an error code when I click OK at the bottom: "Please choose a destination path for enabled destinations." Who the hell wants the same location every time they ingest?? This looks like a bug in the Media Encoder app. Disappointed.
Hiblendmedia commented on this.
You should simply create & point to a dummy folder in order to create the preset. You will still be able to choose the proxy folder during ingest.
@@AlphaCentauri24 Thanks !
@@AlphaCentauri24 Thank you!!
I want to make proxies from 50p footage but in 25p. I interpreted the raw material from 50p to 25p and added a new ingest preset also with 25p framerate. But when i'm toggling the proxy button the proxy footage is still on a different position than my original footage. Any idea?
Great video, but i am having some trouble.
When trying to create a proxy i get the following error: "the selected preset does not support the audio channel type of the clip"
I have tried changing the proxy presets settings to match the audio settings of the original clip with no success.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
finally😇
I followed the video which is very well done and easy to follow along, but when i add the ingest setting in premier it says
"preset mismatch.. Presets that use Copy, Transcode or Copy and Create proxies can only be used as ingest settings during file import" Anyone have this issue or have any advice?
what settings do you guys recommend for proxies in a windows machine?
Depends on the capability of your machine, afterall the proxy is meant to ease the stress off your cpu. i usually use quicktime cineform 854×480 or 1024x576, since i mostly edit with a small preview window instead of a second screen this is very adequate
Great tutorial! Although, I managed to make the preset in Premier, but when I go into Adobe Media Encoder in order to create the Ingest preset, it doesn’t appear? Do you have any idea why this may be?
Christian Marot I just figured out why mine was doing this, The format for the ingest setting needs to be QuickTime.
Im using windows.there is no prores.which one should i choose?
I seem to be facing this problem. I cannot find my (FOR EXPORT) when creating an ingest preset.
It just doesn't appear in the list. Any ideas what's the problem?
When I follow tutorial step by step, when I go to import it to an ingest preset I get the following error code
"This selected preset contains a file copy action which is not permitted for proxy generation. Please use a preset that only contains proxy generation settings"
"Presets that use Copy, Transcode or Copy and Create Proxies can only be used as Ingest settings during file import*
I got onto customer support and they just gave up once they tried what this tutorial said.
thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanks
Some reason it only seem to work when I ingest it from premiere I tried to do the same threw encoder first ant it would not work
In AME 14.0 it forces me to choose a location. Any workaround? I want to select destination when importing, not right now.
Same issue here :/
@@benjaminkelly7803 Hey! I solved it by just giving any random destination. Premiere will still ask for a destination when you create the proxies.
Anybody know how to share with another computer a proxy preset that has a LUT baked into it? I've tried copying both the .epr file and the .cube file but the LUT is not applied to the proxy on the second computer.
My Ingest preset doesn't show prefix/suffix n timecode but I've added it while saving it as a preset...Help!
Adobe: *Provides us with Premiere Pro, a programme that's capable of handling FHD, 4K, and even 8K footage*
also Adobe: *Uploads in 720p*
Sure would be great to see this on a Windows machine. There is no such "Presets" folder on a PC and I have no clue where to find the Ingest Presets I've created...
Did you try the directions in @6:46 to locate the Presets folder? Right-click your newly created preset in the Preset Browser window of Media Encoder and click on "Reveal Preset File". That should do the trick! I also think the Adobe Help webpage might give you the default location of Preset files for Windows systems.
rodrigourdaneta Ironically, I did indeed find that randomly after the fact. That’s a useful function. Must have skipped over that part in the video.
thanksssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
"The selected preset contains a file copy action which is not permitted for proxy generation." HELP?? :( I followed step by step
How do you create Proxies with a TRANSPARENT background?
Hi! Let's see if this helps. At 3:32 in the video, the tutor selects "Apple ProRes 422 Proxy" as their preset. If you want a transparent background, try the option that says "Apple ProRes 4444 with alpha." This option is only available in the most recent versions of Premiere Pro. Any preset that says "with alpha" at the end should include your transparent background.
At 6:04 in this video, the tutor makes another preset selection. Make sure you are selecting a preset that ends in "with alpha" to include the transparency. Hope this helps! Let us know.

6:33 how i can find the preset on Window
Why can't we proxi vertical videos?
anyone getting an error that says "Please choose a destination path for enabled destinations"?
Im trying to create a proxy for vertical vide. I followed all the steps but when I go to create the proxies and ingest the preset I get this error message "the selected preset is an encoding preset which Is not supported for ingest operations Please try adding an ingest preset"
Okay to I managed to get it to work but its the same issue as what I ran into to begin with. The proxy is stretching my video.
@@colewilliams3437 I got same error :/
Im using 2022 media encoder and i cant seem to find the "presets" when creating ingest
We'll do our best to help! Try this. Open Media Encoder and use the toolbar at the top of the screen to go to Window>Preset Browser. We also have this short video with an alternate tutorial, maybe this will shed some light on the topic. adobe.ly/4bCyMIW

Someone needs to pin this comment. Yes, I'm talking to you Adobe! :)
I've spent hours trying to create an ingest preset and this hasn't helped. After 20 years of increasing headaches, it might be time to transition away from Adobe Premiere. The performance is rarely worth it and the workflow become harder with every iteration.
I created ingest presets in ME, but Premiere Pro sees them as encoding presets and won't continue. What could be wrong?
Hi! This video is 5 years old and we have made some significant improvements to the proxy workflow since then. Does this video help you create proxies? adobe.ly/44lgfxk
Let us know if you need any other help.
^CS
@@AdobeCreativeCloud Unfortunately, no. The problem exists with the custom proxies made in ME not being recognized by Premiere. I've read that there's a bug in '22, hopefully that's resolved in ME '24.
Hi, I read your note. Let us know if the issue is resolved in the current version of Media Encoder. I hope I can guide you if you have trouble creating newer presets. Thx, ^KM
You sir, should be a teacher.
