Ive had some nice bikes... fujis, several schwinns, a world tourer and some other super tall frame from the same period... recently had a kuwahara that i loved dearly but got stolen during the lockdown. Ill know it if i see it and my town is small lol. I just found two schwinn world sports from probably 80 or 81... look like theyve just sat in the elements for at least ten years but the frames and gears and crank arms etc... all the really crycial parts seem to be functional and nothing is completely locked up... the chain is pretty much a solid rod at this point but honestly i swear i believe with a soak in penetrating oil and a omce over with a pair of good pliers in each hand that could even be salvaged in a pinch. I mean... im going to buy new parts but i do intend to get one of them up and running. They still have too much life in em to let go to the dump.
We love this channel!! I am an old school bike freak from the 1970's. I own 2 Centurions!! Elite pro, and Super Lemans. I would rather ride this era of a bike any day, than today's garbage.....

#1 nicest pin striping I've seen on a mid-level bike! I like the blue color and chrome details. Great looking bike! #2 love the SunTour Cyclone gear! #3 I'm not too surprised that the rubber survived reasonably well. I picked up a Raleigh International that had been in a box until I got it around the year 2000. A dark basement isn't too bad, as long as there's no ozone being generated by a nearby motor. As you note, though, the grease should not be trusted. #4 Mikashima is the same company as MKS, I think..... but I could be wrong. #5 did you check the seat tube for any burrs that might scratch the seat post? Overall... putting together a new old stock bike is a rare wonderful experience! Thanks for sharing.

I bought myself a centurion bike similar to this back in the early 80's and it changed my life. My first 'nice quality ' bike. I was making 8 bucks an hour at an Architect firm and this bike became my transportation to college and work. I can't remember the exact model but I sold it years later in 1987 to purchase a Diamondback Arrival mountain bike which I still have to this day at the age of 62. I'm back to riding my Unicyles as well after learning to ride the electric versions which are a game changer for sure. Thanks for the memories!
Many did what you did. They traded their bikes for mountain bikes! I ran a shop in the 80s and saw that happen a lot. Get out and ride. We are never too old!
I like your attention to detail. These Centurions were top quality. Cyclone rear derailleur was just under top Superbe. Suntour had better derailleurs than Shimano back then. This bike was probably not sold due to it's large size.
I hear ya. I worked at a shop starting in 82. The Cyclone and Superbe out performed everyone, even campy. This bike wasn't sold because this particular shop would buy out shops going out of business, distributors that go out of business etc. They had 400 bikes in boxes in the basement and the owner didnt even know what he had. Crazy. People came in and purchased them several at a time. Thanks so much for watching!
Yes indeed, Suntour Superbe was the t1ts in the seventies, and the Cyclone for wide range gearing. They also had the first ratchet bar end shifters or barcons which were a breeze on the upshifts.

I have a 1976 centurion LeMans I'm the original owner and I still ride it to this day weekly I take very good care of it it's an excellent bike it's so quiet people cannot hear me go by them. I have no problem keeping up with other bikers on they're new fancy bike's.. paid $150 for back then . Which was a lot.last I seen them they were going for 1200 before they discontinued..
By law, bikes in the US have to be supplied with reflectors and dealers must install them before sale. Nanny State 101. I take them all off, along with the dork disk. If I ride in limited visibility or in the dark, I use lights.

About 10 years ago Two Wheeler Dealer of Wilmington NC. bought out an old Raliegh dealership and with the purchase were several of the entire Raliegh line up for several of the years in the early to mid 70s including the Pro and all in the box just like your beautiful Centourian Jim charged only $ 100.00 for the Gran Prix so I bought one , Thanks John
A friend once gave me the exact same bike in mint condition, it was a blast to ride & for some strange reason which I can’t remember, I gave it away, huge mistake! I hope someone is enjoying riding that bike today

Hi John! We had many Centurions sold in Denmark too. But no serious cyclists would buy one. I have one up in the attic. The groupset is excellent. SunTour Cyclone, I think. And Campagnolo wheelset.
I never took them seriously when I worked at a shop. I knew it was just a house brand that was decaled and imported. lol. That being said they were not bad bicycles.
I still ride with toe clips like this, but I don't use the straps. They're unnecessary. The clip design ensures placement, and your toes won't slip out because of the pressure in that center space between the forked rails.
This is a beautiful bike. I have a soft spot for Centurions. In fact I picked up an older one recently and can use some help identifying the year and model. Would it be possible to send you some photos to see if you can help?
Honestly I would do what you would do. Maybe Google old catalogs etc. I don't know all the bikes. I don't know all the models. I know how to research. I'm sure you could do it.
Fyi....FYI..... The toe clip straps slots on MKS pedals are narrower than the ones on other brand pedals, so if you have laminated or thicker than usual straps, you will have a hard time threading them through. I ruined a set of nice laminated NOS straps when I tried to install them on an MKS quill pedal.
How different would the cycling world be if suntour won the indexed shifting race rather than Shimano 🤔....my cyclone is the later ...less pretty series ....from1985, still works as intended.....and I thought the Schwinn voyager was a bike I would be happy to own even if nobody else does 👍
What most don't know is that Suntour had the first index shifting on a road bike. IT was on a Miyata 110 of all bikes. It was a somewhat lower model. It was before Accushift! It was called Trimec! I. We sold many of those They had the right idea and didn't market it. What a huge mistake. In my opinion that mistake is what cost them everything! Thanks for watching

Is the bike a 1980 or 1979 ? Your commentary says 1980 but the CZcams description is 1979. You do need to put those break cables over the bars though. Keep giving us more and keep up the good work.
I made the same mistake in another video. I believe the person that sold it to me. He said that it was an 80. This guy is always accurate and I took his word for it. I was looking for a catalog pic for the cover of the video and then I discovered that it was a 79. LOL... I'll have to be more careful. I dont usually flip bikes. I have sold very few over the years.
Love the pinstriping ! Where do you find this stuff? Must a cost a pretty penny ! My collection is always changing. I buy used bikes that are affordable, refurbish , sell some , keep some. I am liking some older Raleighs and the 90s Trek single-track 900s lately. Before I had mainly Italian bikes, sold those , just kept 1 midrange Bianchi given to me be my parents many years ago. I also found a Basso titanium , wonder if Litespeed made it.. Definitely like the comfort videos. Just the cafe rides, meet up and some good pastries and coffee..don't over do it 🤓😁 PS . I found a Schwinn Paramount PDG40 series, ( I think Japan made)that I bought from a guy worked at the local Schwinn shop a while ago. It has a Tange frame and all Deore and Ritchey. Got it for a song and is one of my favorite bikes...
Hi, thanks for watching. Where do I find these? Mostly Ebay, craigslist, bikeforums.net, plus I was in the industry for many many years and I have contacts at shops looking out for me. I also have views that have bikes they want to sell at times. I'm patient and only purchase bikes that are Minty. Hard to come by but when I find them I jump on them. I don't sell any of them. Probably sold 3 bikes in the last 7years.

Awesome video. Any tips for reviving the freewheel? I am restoring a bike that wasn't NOS but it was well kept for 40 years. I'm noticing it all looks perfect but the grease and lubricated points need some love. Any plans to do a Fuji?
I had the same issue a few times. I flushed them out with a product called Clean streak. When you're done with that its degreased and most likely freed up but it's probably in need of some serious lube. Some might just shoot some lube inside but I think it may need something a little thicker. I use a Philwood freewheel grease injector. If you dont have access to that tool you can just try to force in into the bearings with your fingers. I really don't have any Fuji bikes yet, Id love to find a Team Fuji from the early eightys. I found a couple however not in the condition that I like to collect. Thanks for watching!

Well comfort it is for me . I like the channel love vintage bikes and other stuff . I'm a worker dude divorced father of 3 young grandparent. I have one vintage frame left after theft and some crap relationships . I ride near daily on a specialized Allez Epic 91' era ....2k stuff from parts bins ...Eddy M frame and fork , the parts were stolen . Campy cinelli Shimano simplex mixed ....other than I have nothing as the health and relationships as well as earnings the last few years declined overnight it seemed. I'm back to healthy but with nothing but passion for the things I love and respect. Honestly I'm a poor man today but hopeful and eager to bounce back immediately ...just not having any breaks and being 52 is kinda wacked .,.I'm ye guy who needed a cool older brother not a wacked out crazy sister ...love her but not good for my daily peace as we are opposite. Im saying this because your channel made my morning and yes I have respect for that bike but it's more in the simplicity of what you're doing , saying , the delivery is just uh let me find a word ....and the background settings .seems to be a bit of class . I'm gonna watch some more of the vids for sure . This one popped up and I'm having a tough two months and seriously in a crisis to certain. Serious comfort video for me and I'm appreciative for your effort no matter what it is to you ....I really feel good telling someone this , especially when you mentioned it in the vid .... A bike shop in Chicago that was known for buying closeouts from suppliers had a huge basement full of bikes in boxes. He was actually a client for a while when I worked for GT bicycles. The shop was called Sportif.

Is the bike a 1980 or 1979 ? Your commentary says 1980 but the CZcams description is 1979. You do need to put those break cables over the bars though. Keep giving us more and keep up the good work.
I made the same mistake in another video. I believe the person that sold it to me. He said that it was an 80. This guy is always accurate and I took his word for it. I was looking for a catalog pic for the cover of the video and then I discovered that it was a 79. LOL... I'll have to be more careful. I dont usually flip bikes. I have sold very few over the years.

My collection is always changing.
I buy used bikes that are affordable, refurbish , sell some , keep some. I am liking some older Raleighs and the 90s Trek single-track 900s lately. Before I had mainly Italian bikes, sold those , just kept 1 midrange Bianchi given to me be my parents many years ago. I also found a Basso titanium , wonder if Litespeed made it.. Definitely like the comfort videos. Just the cafe rides, meet up and some good pastries and coffee..don't over do it 🤓😁
PS . I found a Schwinn Paramount PDG40 series, ( I think Japan made)that I bought from a guy worked at the local Schwinn shop a while ago. It has a Tange frame and all Deore and Ritchey. Got it for a song and is one of my favorite bikes...
Hi, thanks for watching. Where do I find these? Mostly Ebay, craigslist, bikeforums.net, plus I was in the industry for many many years and I have contacts at shops looking out for me. I also have views that have bikes they want to sell at times. I'm patient and only purchase bikes that are Minty. Hard to come by but when I find them I jump on them. I don't sell any of them. Probably sold 3 bikes in the last 7years.
I like watching the builds, however I would also like to learn more about the bikes themselves and how they compare to one another.

How does it compare with some of the other bikes in your collection that price point in period. Is the Suntour stuff any good? Why were you interested in purchasing it at all? Condition of course, but I bet there are additional reasons. You have a wonderful collection!
@@alterrex4463 That is excellent feedback. Im going to buy a scale for the shop! I should go over specs more. I do show the tubing decal but I guess I should mention it. I do somewhat stay away from comparing it to other bikes only because I don't want to "bring down' those that dont have higher end bicycles. IDK if thats a good route?? Thanks for watching.

Awesome video. Any tips for reviving the freewheel? I am restoring a bike that wasn't NOS but it was well kept for 40 years. I'm noticing it all looks perfect but the grease and lubricated points need some love. Any plans to do a Fuji?
I had the same issue a few times. I flushed them out with a product called Clean streak. When you're done with that its degreased and most likely freed up but it's probably in need of some serious lube. Some might just shoot some lube inside but I think it may need something a little thicker. I use a Philwood freewheel grease injector. If you dont have access to that tool you can just try to force in into the bearings with your fingers. I really don't have any Fuji bikes yet, Id love to find a Team Fuji from the early eightys. I found a couple however not in the condition that I like to collect. Thanks for watching!

I just worked on one of these yesterday that came out so clean it could have been sold NOS minus the crusty foam tape.
Old crappy foam grips are fun.

Well comfort it is for me . I like the channel love vintage bikes and other stuff . I'm a worker dude divorced father of 3 young grandparent. I have one vintage frame left after theft and some crap relationships . I ride near daily on a specialized Allez Epic 91' era ....2k stuff from parts bins ...Eddy M frame and fork , the parts were stolen . Campy cinelli Shimano simplex mixed ....other than I have nothing as the health and relationships as well as earnings the last few years declined overnight it seemed. I'm back to healthy but with nothing but passion for the things I love and respect. Honestly I'm a poor man today but hopeful and eager to bounce back immediately ...just not having any breaks and being 52 is kinda wacked .,.I'm ye guy who needed a cool older brother not a wacked out crazy sister ...love her but not good for my daily peace as we are opposite. Im saying this because your channel made my morning and yes I have respect for that bike but it's more in the simplicity of what you're doing , saying , the delivery is just uh let me find a word ....and the background settings .seems to be a bit of class . I'm gonna watch some more of the vids for sure . This one popped up and I'm having a tough two months and seriously in a crisis to certain. Serious comfort video for me and I'm appreciative for your effort no matter what it is to you ....I really feel good telling someone this , especially when you mentioned it in the vid .... Tea time comfort yes , but it's next level cause I'm homeless in a cargo van waiting for parts to get moving and working I hope and 🙏 pray....The rain is off on steady this a.m. and I'm going to put an hour or more into your channel for mood . Okay 7/8s in lol... i was starting a YT channel and consolidated like 16hrs and multiple series of vid only to be deleted... have yet to wrap my brain around it, but what i did i realize while watching my unedited clipswas... just do you, dont be a try hard or lean one direction, you or myself dont need the money really, but just share your experiences of life, regardless of what it may be...clips here or there,people will respond to you and not your content for the most part... just me thinking out loud... take care and keep on keeping on... i have found a new love of bikes !!!

A bike shop in Chicago that was known for buying closeouts from suppliers had a huge basement full of bikes in boxes. He was actually a client for a while when I worked for GT bicycles. The shop was called Sportif.
