@@Casual_ShinShin They did a Kickstarter for a single animated special. It went so well they turned it into a season. Then Amazon paid for another two episodes in season one and ordered a second season. And then all that success means we’re also getting an Adventure Zone show on Peacock because an 11m Kickstarter is nuts.
dude if you think for one second the Critters won't fund 9 seasons of Vox Machina with a 3 hour movie to highlight the Vecna arc, and then turn around and do the EXACT same thing for M9 and whatever campaign 3 ends up being.....you are john snow and you know nothing.
I think theyr initial plan was going to make this special (the original kickstarted) and ship it around studios as some kind of pilot to get a full series. But theyr fans kicked on high gear and the whole project blew up XD
Slightly over 39 days left as of this moment for the kickstarter, 675 k to the next tier, with 1 tier above that at an unknown amount (likely around 9.5 million). We shall see what happens.
I just looked up the most funded kickstarter campaigns of all time, and the Vox Machina Kickstarter is at number 10 now, will be number 9 when it reaches the next goal, and if it reaches the goal after that (and my guess is correct) then it will be the 6th most funded Kickstarter campaign of all time. It would have to get above 10.2 million just to get to number 5 though.
But this could also be viewed in a negative light that some people are borderline psychotically obsessed with critical role to throw that much money at the project. I'm sure you've heard the horror stories about some of the fans and their obsession. Now note that I said SOME PEOPLE not all. Like 1 percent. You know some of them gave thousands to that project.
@Malte Buß Rest assured, my comment isn't talking about the people behind THIS video. I've had these thoughts after someone posted a rant about the Twitch leak that revealed how much CR had made in terms of money. In that video, the narrator said and I quote "anyone who says this video is like therapy for them needs to go to REAL therapy"
With the cast of successful voice actors and being the most popular streaming channel on twitch. You think they could afford their own project? I love critical roll and all they've done throughout the years. But sometimes I get a bit confused as to big companies and streamers who make millions, asking for money from the fans.
I love the cast of Critical Role, but their unceasing humility gets annoying sometimes... Imagine if Julius Caesar had been like "oh no, I'm just an old fart with some basic knowledge of strategy. I just conquered a few Gallic tribes, nothing special. I couldn't possibly rule Rome..." You built an _empire!_ Own up to it!
Not to be that guy, but Critical Role didn't needed the money to make this happen, they needed the publicity and the intent. Kickstarter is just a safe business model that allows you to project your investment in a win-win situation. It was not envisioned for bigger companies like CR is today, but it became a really good strat for that safeness. Its much easier to knock on Amazon's door with the most funded video motion project in kickstarter's history than with just a promise. I'm not against this practice btw, as long as investors get what they were promised. But Critical Role is not 'indie' anymore for a while now - I mean, they are independant, but you get what I mean by 'indie' with quotes.
