I play this kind of build. I can rarely talk about it because most people don't really know how strong it is. So I play it Hammerdin + Charge (Charmmerdin) 20 Blessed Hammer 20 Charge 20 Concentration 20 Vigor (Synergy for both BH and Charge) Rest into Prayer Insight in either Archon or Elder staff Cure or 20% fcr +2 paladin circlet Fortitude Thrang-Oul Gorerider Arach 2x 10% FCR ring with whatever other cool stats or 1x 10%FCR and 1 Ravenfrost Metalgrid or FCR Amulet It plays like an hammerdin but you can use Charge to move fast and to ditch enormous amount of damage still. I really like this build and it's a lot of fun to play, try it out.
@@bg2001 yes because of the lack of shield. You could possibly change the weapon for a sword and board. Something with a decent damage and a spirit shield. Doing this makes prayer a little less good. But you can somehow equip prayer when needed and use +defensive aura GCs.
@@MaKs2K5 I thought that might be the case. Love the fantasy of the staff wielder though. Might try it on HC anyway just to see how far it can go. If I'm quick, maybe I can zip away from the scary stuff :)
This is reminiscent of a variant of SSoG's abbot build. He also used insight in an elite staff, maxing prayer to get max passive healing (he created the build before the Cure runeword). He wanted to make an unkillable paladin, so he used a ton of pdr in addition to insight/prayer healing combo. The difference was his combat skill of choice was charge, with its insane % damage.
Fun build!! Back in thee old ladder days I had a paladin dueller with a 2hand eth Death runeword axe. When the duelling games were cranked with lots of opponents I used an insight staff (elite gnarled staff) on switch to boost his mana because constant charging drained it. Then in the confusion of battle he would often charge the opponent with the insight staff, and wow that thing was about as good at killing as my expensive ethereal runeword axe! In a lot of cases I found he had better chance of connecting with the insight staff and sometimes if he was having trouble hitting a high defense opponent I would switch to the staff and he would hit and kill, and get better charge knockback chains too. I never quite knew why the staff was so good at hitting, either it was some freak of the insight runeword or maybe related to the weapon range or attack speed or something, there was no visible reason for it to work so well.
I'm currently building this guy but as a fohdin. Used a battle staff and diadem so no strength req. Also enigma in a breastplate so only need 30 strength. Everything else in vita. Using Seraphs hymn, enigma, arachnid mesh, double Jordans and defensive skillers my prayer should be about level 36. Act 5 merc with dual crescent moon for the static field procs to help drop the mobs. Been running Arcane all week. Just need the Jah for enigma and I'm pretty much done. Found a Lo on my first run and an Ist after about 200 runs other than that its been rough!
I try to think outside the box that's why I like your content. Never see defensive paladins so had to try use Seraphs Hymn. Fohdin doesn't really have a set in stone aura so why not use prayer triple stacked with insight and cure. Merc shouldn't need much life on hit so opens up chance for different gear on him. Double crescents negative lightning res might go well with dream helm and the confuse procs might come in handy. Not sure on chest yet though. Maybe hustle or bone.
Insight is such an inexpensive runeword that if you can find an ethereal base you just use that until the durability is gone. Maybe use that one for bosses only.
Do you need to have the Runewords equipped to benefit from the synergies? For example, could the merc still have Insight equipped and the Paladin use Plague instead of Cure? Then of course max Prayer as a synergy. Andy’s and Treachery for more poison damage procs. Merc with Flickering Flame and you can use a different socket in your own Andy’s?
Neat build,id have maxed holy bolt instead of vengeance though. Hed primarily be an offensive holybolter with zeal to mop up things that werent demons or undead. Most of your physical immunes are undead so it wouldnt be too much of an issue. Kinda wanna try that,i had a principle zealot who cast holy bolts on strike with a reapers, and used a foh cta on swap to do crowd clearing. A true holy bolt mage pally is something ive always wanted to try but never got around to, i generally prefer melee play.
i started this season with an insight cure fohdin, could've easily turned him to zeal as well since i had a lot of extra points, and could've searched up an elite insight staff base, rly nice and cool
I have a similar build, except I went with fcr based holy bolt healer. The merc does big damage and you just heal him while dealing damage to Undead and Demons
I haven't played D2 in 10 years+ but I somehow find myself on your vids and enjoy em a lot. Hope that motivates you to do more retarded but fun/workable builds 😃
If you play the game to enjoy everything it has to offer and your playing the game to enjoy the beauty in it with a playstyle intended by the game devs, you are absolutely going to have fun. However, once you discover the end game, discover meta builds, you lose a lot of fun and game magic, then quickly realise that all or this gear is literally just dog shit 😅 because using Insight as a main weapon for a zealdin is literally like using a toilet brush when you're in Hell. An in between would be a Lightsabre, for end game probably a Grief PB or something like that. I wish I didn't know about meta and just play the game as intended by devs, this is where I had the most fun. Upgrading gems one by one was my favorite thing to do
@@DoubleBilly awewome. even more pali builds :D you freaking legend. i tried my best to get a working poison pali or a chargerdin working, but I dont have as much knowlageas you do
god damn billy i like how creative you are with coming up with shit off the cuff like this, goes to show how much has yet to be tried, almost kinda scary for being a close to 30 year old game
Dude. That's a nice one. Thanks to your recent activity, and this build, You are again No. 1 Off-Meta D2R CZcamsr. You're a King. Congratulations. 🎉🎉🎉 Ps. I also cleared whole Andariel floor, sometimes even today. It's hard to quit habits, whether in life or D2 (which is a real life by the way). Ps2. You see? If you want, you can be no1. Just to work your ass off a little bit harder and viola. A King 👑.
Bingo bongo
I play this kind of build. I can rarely talk about it because most people don't really know how strong it is.
So I play it Hammerdin + Charge (Charmmerdin)
20 Blessed Hammer
20 Charge
20 Concentration
20 Vigor (Synergy for both BH and Charge)
Rest into Prayer
Insight in either Archon or Elder staff
Cure or 20% fcr +2 paladin circlet
Fortitude
Thrang-Oul
Gorerider
Arach
2x 10% FCR ring with whatever other cool stats or 1x 10%FCR and 1 Ravenfrost
Metalgrid or FCR Amulet
It plays like an hammerdin but you can use Charge to move fast and to ditch enormous amount of damage still.
I really like this build and it's a lot of fun to play, try it out.
That is so pog
Found my next ladder build, thanks.
Would it be crazy to run this on HC?

You got a link to the build ?
Mind you the guides were written long ago. But in general everything still applies.

Awesome idea man. One of the boys on our discord server has been building something similar to you as well

I love archon staff! insight zealer..never thought of before. such an interesting build
Insight is such an inexpensive runeword that if you can find an ethereal base you just use that until the durability is gone. Maybe use that one for bosses only.
Is that sustainable given the repair costs for the weapon?

Big Build Billy
Such a sick looking build. Since you're using enigma I wonder if reapers on the merc would be better than pride?
That's a good point and definitely worth testing if I revisit it for version 2.0
If you run prayer on the merc do you get full synergy from the insight/cure or do you need all 3 auras on the same character?
Nope, Synergies only if they are in the same char/merc.
I have a similar build, except I went with fcr based holy bolt healer. The merc does big damage and you just heal him while dealing damage to Undead and Demons

Great as always Billy. Double great because I love two handed Paladin builds. Holy Shield is for cowards, lol.
Nice Andy room clear
For some reason, this video was not coming up

Lit 🔥🔥🔥
4000 damage per second... you mean per hit. Vengeance "changes your physical damage into elemental"... not quite right either.
