Hey Disney? Marvel? This is how you write a strong female character and make the audience care about her.
Sadly they can’t hear you over the woke.
@@andrewbyrne2173 congratulations for not understanding the underlying issue and falling for cheap right wing propaganda.
Funny Disney killed it with its Marvel movies like Pepper, Blackwidow, Jane, Gamora, Valkyrie, Scarlett, to name a few. Then add in Mando series and you got even more. So Disney can do it just a matter of who is in charge of it.
@@erikjohnson9075 oh I’m quite aware Disney has a lot of other issues going on, but a lot of them are caused by the woke.
She exudes class and deadliness.
"OH MY GOD! GAS! I SMELL GAS! GAS! GAS! GAS!"
He was having so much fun with that bit, you can tell.
Ivan is great
Meanwhile, all the guests who had just passed gas experienced a mini panic-attack.
8:59 John Malkovich said, "I remember the Secret Service being tougher".
In the 1993 film 'In the Line of Fire', Malkovich portrayed a disillusioned CIA agent who attempts to assassinate the US President. The hero is a Secret Service agent portrayed by Clint Eastwood.
So yes, the last time he went against the Secret Service, they were tougher.
Nice fun fact 😂
What's Helen mirrens experience with the secret service?
@@user-fy3fm3dq5w she is a Retired MI6 Assassin. I guess she worked with them in the cold war. I know the U.K's version of the Secret service Handles security when a U.S president is in the U.K.
@@williamalfonso1373not quite MI6 is outside the UK. 5 handle domestic jobs
Well, they were "portrayed" tougher, anyway.
The entire script for this movie was exceptional. Everything just works. Cast & crew are the cherry on top. Not a single line that felt out of place.
The small details like swapping heels for boots helps out
WHO IS THE WRITER ??
If you guys don’t know this, RED and RED 2 are comic book based films based on the Wildstorm/DC comics 3 issue mini series by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner that ran from 2003-2004. The tone is not a comedy like the movies, but just dark. Also in the comic the protagonist’s name is Paul Moses not Frank like Bruce Willis. Also the characters like Sarah, Marvin, Joe, and Victoria are just made for the 2 movies.
Red is one of my favorites, To Bruce Willis wishing a good recovery
Are you f serious??? hahaha this is so ridiculous 4:42, and that sound effect lol🤣
8:26 God that's fun to watch Helen Mirren let a MP5K sing while John Malkovich reloads another for her. 😆
He does it in a routine way as if reading sunday's newspaper while having breakfast. :D
Fun is on one term that can be used.... Hot as hell is another
@@petersilie304 Seemed like he was used to it, like he had done it many times before.
RED 1 and 2 are my comfort films. They never fail to entertain me ❤ When she gets shot, they stay calm and get on with it. It shows how seasoned and mature they are. No time wasted dwelling on things they can't control.
I love the little detail of Helen's character being pissed off in a, 'look what I've let happen, what a lot of bother' sort of way after she gets shot.
Well, her character is English. So yeah. Fits.
I'm sad the clip ends before Ivan picks her up and carries her off
I love that, because it comes on the heel of a certain cockiness. Too overconfident, and she didn’t check the corner and she knew she screwed up. Keeps her human and not an invincible killing machine. Simple, small, common human mistake. And she knows it. Every expert has been there.
Well of course an English lady of standing would be terribly upset with herself. To be a burden is an insult of high order. Would rather die.
I think she was more upset over hte dress.
"I kill people, Dear", is one of my favorite lines! That and "I do take the occasional contract now and then"!
My favorite was from the second one.
Sarah: Where did you get the bodies?
Victoria: My freezer.
I've no idea why this movie never got the props it deserves! Top cast, top writing - good plot, excellent effects, some proper laugh out loud moments!
indeed, very good film
Exactly
👍 Quite agree - I give this 5 stars... funny, and great acting from some of my fav actors/actresses. 🇦🇺
one of my most favourtie action flick. In my mind this should be as popular as John Wick.
It was one of I think 3 films with the same premise - older generation action stars doing an action film about being old - that came out at the same time. The Expendables was one of the other films and I can't remember the third off the top of my head. So likely that direct competition led to the lukewarm reception. This is by far favourite.
"I'm getting the pig" and "You smell like Washington" are my favorite lines from this movie.
"Old man my ass....."
"Where's my plane!!!!"
"In my ass!!!!"
😂🤣🤣
I absolutely lost it when he started screaming and running at the car with the bomb strapped to him lmfao he looked so insane it was glorious
Gotta say my favorite part was the switch from heels to combat boots. ❤
8:54 Turns out Helen Mirren is one of those actors that can fire guns without blinking.
Well, I know why there isn't a category for "most mischievous smile" at the Academy Awards. Helen would snatch it every time...
the entire sequence from 6:33 to 7:40 of Brian just calmly riding the elevator down, stepping out, blowing up the car and then returning to the elevator has to be my favourite scene, possibly in all cinema. I remember I had to pause it because I was laughing so hard at that.
I also love the Bond-esque music theme he gets.
Your favorite scene in ALL of cinema ? I think you need to step your game up.
Really? All cinema?
Gotta watch more movies then.
The writing and direction is great. We know she’s a badass not just because of what she does, but by the way Marvin treats her. He stands there and lets her fight, and provides support and ammo. No ego on his part, no anxiety, fully lets her take the shots because he has full confidence in her.
Another excellent example of well written female characters don't get questioned. The whole time she oozes the confidence of someone who's earned it. Its not some fly by night success story but hard won power.
Why Hollywood can't follow this example more often is beyond me but this character is ALMOST as good as Ellen Ripley.
@@v44rgtuy0l3 And Sarah Connor Ofcourse. Another one in that top 4 should be Charlize Theron’s character in Atomic Blonde. If you haven’t seen it, go watch now. You’ll see why she reminds me of Ripley.
And we know his character isn't above calling it how he sees it. So if he felt that she had lost her edge, he'd make it known.
The sci-fi series The Expanse does this kind of portrayal of female characters very well also...
And also the locations too, The film jumps from place to place with intresting stories
8:59 Marvin: i remember the Secret Service being tougher
Victoria: me too
Wonderful nod to In the Line of Fire.
Liam Neeson and Helen Mirren were lovers for a few years earlier in their careers. They both appeared on the Graham Norton show one evening and this tidbit came out. Norton asked Neeson how he came to know her and he told this story. Apparently Neeson and a friend of his, both young actors at the time, went to a set where Mirren was part of the cast. She appeared and began to walk towards them and both of the young men looked at her and uttered the same sentiments with a long drawn out "Faawwck" since they were both so taken with her. After telling this story Mirren looked at Neeson and said, "I never knew that." The look on their faces at that moment clearly shows that they are still very much taken with one another.
She is still a beautiful woman today as much as ever.
Yes, the film was Excalibur
It was on the set of Excalibur, Liam Neeson was with Ciaran Hinds when they saw her. Helen Mirren was gorgeous in the movie.
She played the witch
I'm as chick and honestly even now I'd have the same reaction to her walking up to me , shes just so classy, elegant and beautiful and shes aging like a fine scotch. Anything I've ever seen her in has been worth every minute, shes an amazing woman.
It might seem weird, but I kinda love that she tells him to go, that's she's no use anymore and he doesn't argue with her. He doesn't try to reassure her that she's still 'valuable'. He knows how important the mission is, and he trusts her judgement. Like I said it may seem weird, but I just really love that moment.
Professionals respecting each others judgment.
Oh, and it was Marv... so, eh, who could say. 😁
"I'll cover you" - fires a pistol at a fixed machine gun emplacement that has not stopped firing for two minutes
right? just wait for a couple seconds or so and it overheat either way.
@@murzkatzeno that barrel is good for another couple hundred rounds before it has any issues.
Ooooooh, such a big gun,
but no recoil!
@@benjigray8690 it was mounted to the ground lmao
In real life, no air cooled machine gun can be fired continuously for two minutes without stopping.
RED was a ridiculous, absurd movie... executed excellently and with great performances from the cast. It's amazing how much more the latter matters than the former.
Best and most hilarious part of thr movie is when John Malkovich has thr bombs strapped to his chest and he charges and the officer and dude turnw and runs away. I was DYING
It's the look on his face and the screaming that did it for me. Freakin' hilarious!
English please.
In an interview, she reveals the (expensive) designer bag is her own as she felt hers best suited the gown. ❤
I love how much fun Helen Mirren has been having in her roles for a while now.
It seems to be the thing with a lot of the older UK actors and actresses that they stop giving a toss about appearances and doing the "right" roles for politics or image and just have fun.
I feel that Helen was quite 'starchy' when she was younger... she still can be, but age has mellowed her out enough to chill out and have that fun
Such an EXTREMELY UNDERRATED movie. I absolutely loved both movies. Brilliant storyline and an excellent cast.
Extremely underrated is an exaggeration.
It's ok not to exaggerate about everything, kids, like how everything is "crazy" or "insane" or that "you died" from watching a funny video.
I like how even though these Assassins are good and well prepared, they aren’t outright insane and can kill anyone easily.
It really feels much more grounded and realistic, rather than having one guy kill 10 people with a pencil (no offense to John Wick, of course)
I'd been aware of Brian Cox before, but this is the movie that made me fall in love with him. He seems to be having so much fun. They all do, and it lifts the movie up, like bubbles in champagne. Well, exploding bubbles, it's an action movie, after all.
I also like the fact that Red chooses interesting locations for the action like Chicago and New Orleans
What a cast. But the pairing of Helen Mirren & John Malkovich. Sweet gold. 😊
I bet all the cast of this movie had lots of fun making it one of the best movies of it's time
John Malkovitch always has the best lines.
Loved Helen ever since she did the calendar girl movie. RED has a fantastic cast.. great movie as well as the sequel
Great film with her (younger self) in: The Long Good Friday. Great British TV series with her: Prime Suspect.
Red and Red 2 both criminally underrated
Really? What organization is in charge of "underrating" movies? I'm curious.
@@javiermoretti1825 life must be very difficult for you
@@ajbudda1038 Difficult?? Ha! Nope, my wife and I earn a nearly $300k annually, we own two houses and a vacation condo, travel around the world, and our kids are A+ scholarship recipients to Ivy League universities. I'm good, thanks.

One of my all time favorites to watch. Love this scenes. I love how elegantly Helen gracefully knocks out the guy and changes her foot wear
I just love the fact that their almost bored xD
That's what makes it even funnier.
I love this movie, everyone looks like they’re having SO much fun.
They don't make em like her no more, badass lady.
But with class. That's a combination you very rarely see today.
This movie is underrated.
Man don't you just love when a plan comes together
I forgot how good Brian Cox is in that movie. There are very few problems that the proper application of Ma deuce cannot solve! There's a reason after 117 years it still in service.
I like how these highly trained, experienced Bond-esque opereratives with all kinds of gizmos at their disposal are faced with the issue of "how do you stop a bullet resistent car?", and their solution is simply a .50 cal machine gun.
I've only come to know of Helen Merrin as an older actress. She is incredibly beautifull. I've got to look up her earlier work, she had to have been a knockout.
She was in a rendition of Shakespeare's midsummer night's dream on VHS I believe.
You won't be disappointed. The girls got it!
She’s been in movies since she was a lot younger always a hottie and great actress. I can remember Mrs Miniver
She still is a knockout! Some women don't lose the fantastic beauty they had in their youth! For example, Raquel Welch, Joan Collins,Barbara Eden, and Sophia Loren!
Oh you won’t be disappointed, she’s beautiful at every age😀
A simply incredible movie. Watch it many times.
When did they stop portraying women with such class in movies.
This was a great movie, as well as, Red 2.
Red and red 2 were awesome
Victoria is such a bad ass woman character.
Fun movie, incredible cast ... time for a re-watch !
Yup, this movie sure makes hired killers look funny and nice
Bro do you know how loud a 50-cal machine gun would be in a parking garage, lol.
Turn up your volume.
Pretty strong smoke! Kept them from getting hit buy dozens of rounds. Amazing stuff....
"Did he just call her 'bunny'?"
Bloody Brilliant.
From start to finish.
High octane action !
One of my favourite movies!
Loved every momement of these films.
Am I the only one who thinks Helen Merrin looks incredibly hot in this movie?
Perhaps the air conditioning had failed.
She is a very lovely woman
No you're not. But if you really want to see Helen Mirren hot, check out Bob Guccione's whack movie Caligula. But I digress. To me, a perfect evening would going to dinner with Helen Mirren, Sophia Loren and Lauren Bacall. But since Lauren left us in 2014 I'd settle for Sophia and Helen. You could add together all the so-called actresses of today and their sum total of glamor and class would be infinitesimal compared to Sophia and Helen, no matter their ages.
Nope. She is so classically hot
@@mikeat2637 Jim Brown quit football just to be in a movie with her haha.
I just now realized that this is the second film Helen Mirren is in where the main character is named Moses, as she also played Tua (the queen of Egypt who adopts Moses) in The Prince Of Egypt (1998).
I love Helen anything Helen is for me this is my favorite role!
J.G Adams aka Johnbronski is the name and Director Guild Of Canada- AD department.
Was the actual AD supervising the "little fight scene" with Helen. Stunt department had rehearsed a complex scene for Helen. However due to the form fitting evening dress. It was discussed with stunts, wardrobe and Helen. A simple bop on the head with purse would look better. True Story 😅😅😅
Secret service was tougher with Clint Eastwood ;) if you get the reference.
Malkovich with the plastic gun lol, In The Line of Fire.
Great shows, great actors
i love these two sooo much!!!!!
Having Helen Mirren with an MP-5 doing the bolt slap and cutting away was a wasted opportunity. In fact, I'd have liked to have seen her doing a combat re-load just as Val Kilmer did in Heat. She can slap me any time.
Helen Mirren is to die for
You should see her in some of her early movie roles. And you can see a lot of her.
totally and absolutely
@@danieldickson8591 i gave her a look and wow
This is my all time favourite film. Great female and male characters
No ordinary necklace.
Helen Mirren, in a long white gown, firing a 50 cal machine gun, is still the sexiest thing I've ever seen. Oh baby!
❤ the concept of it well fine organised 😂🎉
Hello another cool movie Red loved it and enjoyed watching thankyou for watching
Helen Mirren just can't help being the sexiest woman alive.
No plastic surgery. She's beautiful.
I'm so bored with young actors in action movies - love the 'Oldies' show off their skills, knowledge and experience. So much fun to watch. The main-cast seems to have a lot of fun too.
Such a great movie
Wow. 😮 Doctor Doom, Eomer and William Stryker......all in this movie!! 🤯🤯😄
Good movie and great actors
First saw this movie on a flight over the Pacific Ocean en route to Australia.
I love this channel.
Such a good film.
It was a firework show, not even a drop of blood was spilled.
Nothing sexier than a Lady of War who pulls out the Browning for a party.
Love the red series this was before Bruce’s decline after these you start to see a little bit of a disconnect so sad have been a long time fan .these films had an epic line up even small parts were huge stars from back in the day 🎉
always classy lady Mirren
Fantastic movie !!
Classy agents❤
Love this movie

Here's a crazy movie factoid: Brian Cox is actually in two different movies called Red. The other one is about a guy who wants justice after a teenage kid shoots his dog.
