I think the posters for KoTM also made it really clear that they were purposefully representing the monsters with a color: there's the blue Godzilla poster, the Mothra one that's a different shade of blue to show that she's allied with Godzilla, the yellow/orange Ghidorah one and the orange-ish poster for Rodan, which also shows that he's on Ghidorah's side but not with the same allegience as Mothra to Godzilla
Always knew the colors had symbolism but never thought about it like this. Always saw the mass awakening as showing it along with the apocalyptic imagery-an exploding volcano, lava approaching a cross, Ghidorah cackling with his wings widespread.
People always underestimate how thematically great this film can be, whether through the color grading, directing even the characters...
also it kind of makes sense for godzillas atomic breath because the breath is related to blue and water is blue and godzilla mostly lives in water.
You have a fantastic idea of the role color plays in this franchise my only wish is that you hadn’t included that ghandi comment; it felt very out of left field. I think if you kept quotes and references central to film and figures ‘in’ film these essays’ll feel structured better. You definitely know what you’re talking about, I’ll love to see the next video :7
I agree with you except there is one time in Hong Kong where color was used well. At the end of the fight the scene is divided into blue and orange colors. The titans respective colors from the title cards and posters. This paired with them both roaring at each other shows that even though Godzilla has won they are still both alpha titans and respect each other.
What do you think of King of the Monsters Color?
I think it’s excellent. Covering my boi Godzilla with blue around him and mothra being in a golden light. Rodan having orange and red flow with him while king ghidorah having grey clouds raining down with yellow lighting strikes shows how mysterious and out of touch the false king is. And it makes them look amazing and BadAss.
Although I certainly agree with everything you had to say about KOTM, I think GvK deserves waaaay more credit than you gave it.
GvK is full to the brim with excellent color usage thoughout the whole film, and even if you focus solely on the Hong Kong fight, there's still plenty to find besides "random neon colors because that's how the city looks" (tho, granted, a lot of the time it may come to that). I'd could go further into it, but there's already this really, really good video highlighting the incredible colors of the movie called: "Los COLORES hablan por ellos: Godzilla vs. Kong", and I think it's very worth to check it out even though it's in spanish (tho I checked and the english subtitles hold up pretty well to what's being said in it).
But anyways, really nice video! I always adored the cinematography of the monsterverse and seeing more people acknowledging it is really fun
Hey I know exactly what you mean I praised this movie ever since I watched it in the theater for its use of color and how it helps give the scenes themself character put my favorite thing about this movie is every wide shot and you know as well as I do that there are numerous astonishing captivating scenes who are the camera will pan out and just you can see the whole picture that's the best way I can describe that. The scene of when Godzilla faces off against the Ghidorah for the first time and you can see both monsters fully in one shot, oh the whole entire Rodan sequence right there freaking epic. This film was made for wide shots

I think the color grading in this movie shows that Titans aren't just ordinary animals, they're gods and the whole world would change the more they show up. I find the complaints on the color grading subjective as they just want to see the fight scenes instead of symbolism.
