  • Tainted Grail is complete. I’ve gone through an entire playthrough of the core box. I pushed off responsibilities, I ignored friends, but most of all… I had fun.

    There's an app with voice over so you don't need to read anything from the adventure book. The story and world is written by Krzysztof Piskorski, award winning polish fantasy author. I'd encourage you to play the game a second time, the 'grind' largely goes away when you already know what you're doing and there's SO many little secrets you'll miss the first time you'll be thankful you went in again.

      Hello, do you know how to install the APP on android? It tells me, if i search for it that this app was developed for a older version of android.

    • @1invag
      @1invag Před 5 měsíci

      @@sagittariusa9012 if it says it requires an older version of android you can't run it on that device period. You need a device that is running an older version of android. This is why I stopped buying apps years ago. Can no longer use things you bought after upgrading devices. And most apps never get updated unless they have some means of bleeding cash perpetually from you

    You've asked who did the story.
    It was written by Krzysztof Piskorski, Polish fantasy writer, who got some awards for his books. So that's why the story (as a "novel") is so good.

    I have made it through Chapter 3 of this game so far. I love and agree with all of what you shared so far too. I had no idea there was a way to fast travel so that's super helpful to know. I also think this is a game where it would be okay to house rule your experience to make it play more with your pace of gaming too. I can see how the food farming in the beginning can feel a little tedious or how much it costs to light the Menhir's, so if those pieces of the game are dragging someone down from wanting to continue playing, I think it's okay to implement the story mode, or make food gains a little more generous.
    I know later on in the game when you are more upgraded there are lots of ways to mitigate the more tedious parts when you start out as a B team hero.
    I took this game over to a friend's to give them a taste of the game, and will have to set it up again soon. The last session I played I thought I would just sit down for 90 minutes...I ended up playing 7 hours. It's got a great, just one more turn vibe to it.

      @Tablenauts  Před 2 lety +1

    Great overview and thoughts on the game. Grabbed the KS campaigns for super cheap($20 brand new) before even owning the base game, and been trying to snag a 2nd hand copy for awhile, and thankfully was able to find it pretty cheap on the second-hand market. Looking forward to painting and tabling the game finally

    I bought the base game with the three expansions for a bargain price. I have only just started, solo with two characters but I am wanting to play every day. Sometimes it is frustrating but that just leads me to think of ways out of this. It is different to any other game that I have or have played.

    • @Tablenauts
      @Tablenauts  Před 8 dny

      So I no longer have my copy, as I beat it all and sold it to a friend, but I do distinctly remember it being a skill you can upgrade and get, not a rule in the rulebook you can necessarily find (it may be there I’m just not able to look it up). You’ll need to look at your possible upgrades, and find the one that I’m mentioning! Even still, it’s a pretty big cost, and not exactly like a normal fast travel in video games.

His base ability in getting food was helpful early game when he is my only character

      @@Tablenauts Short-ish version.. rumor says the new campaign will be next month. It is a standalone expansion plus a 2nd edition of original core. One of the big things it seems will be having a wyrdness side to the location cards that do not require you to dispel the wyrdness to pass through, but it is more dangerous.
      I got the stretch goals box which includes Last Knight & Age of Legends which are each 30-40h campaigns. I will probably skip Red Death as it has fairly mixed reviews and is half the length for more $$ than the stretch goals box.
      Good luck!

    There are a lot of issues with the mechanics of the game and balance of systems that need to be discussed. The economy of the game system including the level system is also broken. If you play smart, you can break the game by chapter 3-4. This means that you are forced to play dumb to make the game work, undermining what the game promises the gamer when first picked up. Playing stupid to make the game more challenging is also boring and breaks immersion. For those wanting a more nuanced discussion of the games problematic design look through the BGG forum.

    • @Tablenauts
      @Tablenauts  Před 2 lety +4

      I would politely disagree with those who say that, at least from what I played! I enjoyed the deck-building aspect through using experience to get more cards, and the way cards only activate if you have the right specs. And the monsters DEFINITELY scale which make some fights terrifying but also satisfying when you manage to still defeat them. I would say people who find the combat stale, means they haven’t spent much time actually improving their character’s hand enough to make each fight feel different.

    I am going to the controversial but I hated the game.
    I tried to play with 3 friends. (4 players)
    things I disliked.
    -lighting the menhirs. the cost increased for every player. and the menhir was lit for a shorter amount of time making the game in to a collecting game. we couldn't progress after 10h in beacuse the lighting was soooo expensive.
    even going back lighting a old one cost us ALL our resources.
    -the journal entries for each card costing energy.
    I hated this. beacuse SO many journal entries lead to a dead end. like 80% of them lead nowhere. not even clues.
    we 4 came ro a point where it just was not fun anymore and ended up in a huge grind fest.
    I guess this game leans towards 1-2 players better than 4
