The Metal Gear franchise exists because of escape from New York and escape from L.A. The director or Metal Gear ( Hideo Kojima ) was very fascinated with Kurt Russell's character in both of these two film so he modeled solid snake and Big Boss after Kurt Russell. The Metal Gear storyline was also heavily influenced by these two films.

I don't care that the critics slated this. I was front row (almost...) when it hit the cinemas.
    And I loved it.
Shortly thereafter, and as I'd hoped, I hit HMV for the sound track. A funked up Escape from New York theme, and a different movie as well.
I still have an original Escape from LA CD stuck in my loft.
My brain also retains the tune. Classic stuff ;)
(though between you and me, the CGI work was distinctly shonky. Big name studios, you should have backed this. A cult Classic, made modern.)
Escape III, how I wish you were made real. I'd have bought you. I'd have suffered the assembled masses of slightly flatulent popcorn chewing masses to see you too. And bought the soundtrack. And bought the DVD, or Blu Ray. Depending on when my pay fell. I'd have spent hard earned to see you.

You're absolutely right, I'm glad you mentioned that. I for one always found Escape From LA's theme a lot better, it's just too bad John Carpenter couldn't keep his own balance when in Hollywood. There was going to be a third Escape From movie, called Escape From Earth, but it was ultimately cancelled due to Escape From LA's box office failure, and then John Carpenter was going to start the works on an Escape From tv show adaption that was supposed to be scheduled between 1998 to 2000 for development time until it could be released onto every tv screen through the United States, but because of the stupid asshole Hollywood people and the companies affiliated with the escape From movie series thought it would be too dark to show on television, so they cancelled it, which resulted in a huge argument between Joh Carpenter and Hollywood until he recited from Hollywood completely somewhere in 2002, and he never made any movie, nor anything to do with the Escape From franchise ever again, which is really a shame, because if you look at it this way, back in the late 90s to the early 2000s, there really wasn't anything good as far as sci fi and action movies and tv shows go. And truly, Snake Plissken is truly one of the greatest and most badass movie characters ever created, and during the late 90s to early 2000s, the movies and tv shows were already going through a crisis anyways, and an Escape From tv series would have cured that, and would have became one of the greatest tv shows to ever hit the tv screen, if Hollywood was actually smart by allowing an Escape From tv series adaption to happen, but instead they disagreed with it completely because of their thoughts of it being too dark, which was really stupid thing to do, because not only does John Carpenter loose the huge chance of making huge money, but also Hollywood looses the chance of making huge money as well.

Did you know the film 'Lockout' with Guy Peirce was meant to be a sequel to Escape from LA & it was supposed to be called 'Escape From Space'. That would have been an awsome sequel.

People who say this movie has bad CGI and cheesy plot just don't realize that that's how it's meant to be. It's a parody of old cheesy action movies.

If you haven't seen "Doomsday" It's definitely a "spiritual successor" to the Escape films, with references all over the place. One-eyed protagonist, "post apocalypse", general escaping from things...

Fun Fact: GHOSTS OF MARS was intended to be another Snake movie (they changed the character to Desolation played by Ice Cube) it was only because escape from LA bombed that this was changed.

So i did finally watch the movie.i actually liked it.to me it didnt feel like a parody,i didnt know what was gonna happen,so it had some surprises and twists (to me) and i think it captured the spirit of escape from ny.i was happy, that they referenced that movie and that they were a bit similar (kinda like silence of the lambs and red dragon).i also really liked the action and i didnt have any problems with the acting or the other characters.

@mfranko989 The Escape from New York theme was much quieter and gave a much stealthier feel to the movie. This movie, Escape from L.A, was a generally louder film, with less stealthy quiet scenes. The movie was a bit more All Guns Blazing than the first, so it makes sense that the theme song thrashes more ass than the first one =)

Got to have an Escape From Earth. Plisken's not dead, or taller. He's just back. To save Humanity. Even though he doesn't want to.
Money in my hand waiting for this to show at the local cinema. As it has been since the end of Escape from LA. What a beautiful dark sci fi story it would make. Hell, I'll even write it!
