Qi Gong teacher Frank Hanley leads a session on core strength and breathing exercises. Frank learned about the importance of maintaining core strength through his personal experiences living with FSHD.
Frank is a martial artist, author, and teacher of Hung Ga style Kung Fu, Taijiquan and multiple Qigong styles and practices. Frank was awarded Qigong Instructor Certification by the National Qigong Association. Frank practices qigong and kung fu daily. He believes that exercise and daily practice should be part of everyone’s lifestyle.
In 2020, Frank organized and launched the FSHD Society South Carolina Chapter and served as Chapter Director. Frank also created the “Qigong for FSHD” Facebook Group where he publishes videos showing various qigong routines to help combat the effects of FSHD. “I practice qigong and kung fu daily because the FSHD never takes a day off. FSHD is always attacking me. I need to be fighting back.”
In our first “Feeling Fit” session Frank introduces several breathing techniques to help strengthen the diaphragm, abdominal muscles and improve breathing. In future sessions, Frank will discuss and demo routines for other muscle groups (shoulders, arms, legs) and a practice to help strengthen the immune system.
