    I had inconsistent disks aswell.
    Some had what can only be described as a nipple.
    I am normally quite keen nipples but not these.
    Saw no need for the spinning side so i sanded them down flat. And finished with clear spray paint.
    Now they glide beautifully. On every side.
    What i am trying to say, ask:
    Why would you want difirent sided disks anyway? And inconsistend disks for that matter.

    Thanks champ, great tips as usual. I've made my own board but it seems I didn't sand it fine enough before adding the poly and wax. Going to sand it back and start again, going up to at least a wet sand of 1200 grit, then use a satin poly instead of a glossy one. I have carnauba wax for the deck but no wax powder, going to have to change that. :-)
    Cheers from Australia.

    Hi Justin, all excellent suggestions and observations. I always practice my open 20s with all of my disks, but I will mix it up with other shots once I get the technique down that I want to stick with for a while. Question - I bought some wax that is actual powdered Carnauba wax, not the shuffleboard powder, it seems sticky to me & I'm thinking about just dumping it - is it worth giving a try? As for the shuffleboard powder - what speed would you recommend for a beginner? Thanks for the videos!

    • @justinslatercrokinole2498
      @justinslatercrokinole2498  Před 3 lety

      to be honest with you, i don't know a ton about the different available waxes and powders. I would recommend Capo shuffleboard wax, mine says "fast speed" on it. I actually bought the bottle when i was a beginner so i don't see any issues with beginners using the fast stuff haha. This is the same brand that we use in tournaments

  • @kennethfharkin
    @kennethfharkin Před 3 lety +2

    Thanks again. I can see what you mean mechanicswise by offsetting to the strong side. Could the same be achieved by setting your self up from the start slightly off to the left assuming you are a right hand shooter? This would align you for the straight shot, lake the far left extreme shots slightly less so and require slightly more lean off the edge of the chair with the far right shots, although those already have the benefit of being strong side.
    I know the chair cannot be moved while the game is going, although you can hang off either side but at the tournament level is the position of the chair controlled from the start by the official?
    Setting up offset from the start or taking the open 20 shot from slightly further to the right if you are sitting centered I 100% agree about the need to be consistent. In billiards it all starts with a consistent position/bridge/stroke and crokinole should be no different.

    • @justinslatercrokinole2498
      @justinslatercrokinole2498  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes this is a pretty good idea, and actually Jon Conrad (you can youtube some of his matches) does something like this, where he sets his chair to the left, and even rotates it a bit.
      I however have pretty good mobility so leaning either way isn't an issue for me. But if you find yourself struggling with left leaning shots, moving your chair slightly to the left could solve this problem. You do have to make sure you can still reach all the tight angels leaning right though.

      Just made myself a crokinole board out of wall panels. I found in the b&q scrap box that they have at all b&q exits. You can also use old laminate floor boarding, the have a very hard slippery backs, they clip together making a nice flat surface.

    • @justinslatercrokinole2498
      @justinslatercrokinole2498  Před 3 lety +1

      Sorry for the delay! A smooth/level playing surface that is the correct dimensions is the most important thing. Second, make sure your 20 hole is sufficiently deep and has a sharp rim. Unfortunately crokinole isn't super accessible across the world as of yet, but I hear Tracey is shipping over seas now :)

    Are you able to tell the disc spinny side from the other just by look? I just grabbed my discs and can't tell. Will try spinning them on my board to night because my desk seems too rough to tell a difference.

    • @justinslatercrokinole2498
      @justinslatercrokinole2498  Před 3 lety

      I can tell just by looking at them, this takes a bit of practice though. One clue is that the spinny side usually has a point in the centre. The spinny side also has a "spirally" look to it. You can always give it a quick spin before taking your shot.
