    Thanks Charlie, you did a good job of showing the advantages on this tent. It’s impressive for sure. It’s also obvious that you have some camping experience in you background. I have in the past helped on a camp for 200 people and it’s incredible how some people roll up with a tent (or half a tent) and no experience at all, and then blame the tent. If you’re going to camp at least put the thing up in the garden beforehand so you know how it goes up, and can be taken down! This one - like most - was no trouble at all as you showed. Have a good trip to France, and enjoy yourself! I’ll be motorcycling to Derbyshire in July in a tiny tent.. and I’m 76 y.o. Keep doing the YT thing, and thanks again. Les

    It's feckin' huge... 1. There's no way I'm carrying that on my bike 2. I don't need a tent that big when I'm bike camping 3. Why do you need to park your bike in a tent? Isn't your bike waterproof? 4. My Decathlon blackout tent, sleeping bag, ground mat, and chair all fit in a bag that size... Sorry, not meaning to be pissy... I'm just amazed how these guys seem to have got so much traction from social media for a product that makes no sense to me .
    But besides giving out about the tent, I'm enjoying your channel, I'm off to Spain today, so enjoying your French trip!

      When camping for 2 nights or more the extra space is great, and very welcome if it chucks it down. The pack size and weight are virtually the same as my Eurohike Avon 3 tent, but the LR is much better to use and quicker to pitch. I have a Decathlon 2 seconds blackout tent for 1 nighters which is brilliant.

      I totally agree! Most motorcycles are fairly water-resistant, why cover it? Or just take a lightweight cover if you are really that fussy! I bet that moto-tent wouldn't last five minutes in a strong wind! Ride safe. Love and peace.

    Thank you for this video.
    An other thing good with this tent (hope you didn't said it in the video...) is that you set up the outter tent first.
    So, if it's raining, the bedroom inner tent stay dry.

    Looks like a great, well thought out product. Some comments….re the awning I would just angle the pole to create a run-off for water, and my daughter has a blackout tent so the interior stays dark and early sunrises are not a problem… not sure if this is the same. Good review 😊

    Reviews often fail to show how versatile this tent is. It's nice that you showed how easy it is to use the doors as awnings. Also, with doors on three sides, you can almost always set it up to deal with wind, sun and rain, whichever direction they come from. I carry a cheap 7' x 11' poly tarp to use as a ground cloth. Keeps the tent out of the dir/mud, makes it cozier inside, and gives me a clean surface to pack the tent. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine.

    This is a good tent for the older rider especially for a long trip worth a look at ,you just want to get it up before it starts to rain you got room to move ,bad weather you could be stuck in one area for two days ,and don’t look to big on the bike

    Great review, I have had mine for a year now & just come back from a trip to Switzerland, the South of France & back via the Gorge du Tarn. I am 6' 2", 59yrs & like you need to stand up for comfort - especially putting my jeans on ! The only thing I have done is made my own extra full size "groundsheet footprint" as this helps keep the rest totally dry & I can then roll it up in a dry sack to stop it touching the folded tent. The only thing you forgot to mention was the little pockets for the guy ropes to keep them in one place. It really is a great tent & when biking, we need to make sure we get a good night's sleep. Have fun in France 😊

    I can see the appeal and cost savings in camping while touring on a bike, but I like my creature comforts, cheap hotels of which there are plenty in France from my travels there. But hey, we're all different, the World would be a boring place if we were all the same, so good on you for taking it on. That review was extensive with a lot of good inforamtion, so although I don't camp, you kept my attention till the end, maybe it's your character or personality not the content, but anyway, enjoy your French trip. From what I can see, no vents have been counted. On this tent, ventilation of moist air should be done by wind getting under the cover at the ground and out again at the ground. What if there is no wind? You can open a door. What if it rains? Looking at professional tent makers, one of the main focuses is to get out condensation. Then you have to have a ventilation opening at the top of the tent. Otherwise, it was nice demo of the tent and its facilities and possibilities

      Red Light and Sleep Inertia
      Sleep inertia-that hard-to-shake groggy feeling upon waking up-is another common side effect of chronic sleep deprivation, and one that red light has been shown to alleviate, according to a study published by a sleep research journal.
      In this experiment, participants received red light while they were sleeping and upon waking, via red-light masks and goggles. During the three weeks of treatment, most participants reported experiencing more restful sleep, and feeling more alert upon walking. They also performed better on cognitive tests.

    Hi Charlie. Looks like a great tent! Be careful with the RE rear rack. I think your bike is an E4, so I’m not sure if it has the most recent, reinforced rack? The older ones are notorious for snapping under load. Hitchcocks do a great replacement rack, bigger and stronger. Also, may I suggest handguards or that you take some spare levers? If you drop the bike the levers will be the first thing that breaks, which will be a bad, bad day. Enjoy France 😊🍷.

      I have worked out there will only be 5.8kg on the rack itself, the rest will be on the seat and across the panniers. 😊

    I'd consider this tent as an EDC in the car along with my "emergency bag" containing "survival equipment". I'm not allowed a bike these days, my son is afraid I'll fall off, very annoying for a pensioner!

  • @peterrobinson5211

    I bought this tent 18 months ago, mainly for the ability to stand whilst dressing. At 77 I'm more than qualified for this requirement, and secondly to have a comfortable lounge/cooking area for when the weather is poor. I've found this tent is not really suitable for overnight stays, as it's weight and bulk on the bike are not worth it's practicality when pitched. It's certainly worth using as a several day base camp, but not for just one night. My main complaint is the absence of guying points on the centre pole, which the earlier model did have. If the wind increases and shifts to the side, the centre pole can collapse completely, as has happened to me on two occasions. I'm considering having guying points added to this section if I can get it done for a sensible price.

      I was looking at getting the wing man of the road tents but as I am also 50 years old the hight is a bit low . But I like the canvas materials and build . Have you you seen them ? I would be interested in your opinions on them 🤔

      @@bmwgsblackgus7636 yes! I have tried one, and in my humble opinion, NO. They're like getting into a coffin! My friend tried one, used it 3 times and sold it. Heavy, cumbersome, tiny and claustrophobic. If you can sleep as soon as your eyes close, and not move all night, then maybe, but for me, no no no. I could barely stand it for 10 mins!

    Great review Charlie - it looks a very well thought out tent. Having a bag big enough to put it back into is always a good idea. Some manufacturers provide a bag which has only barely enough room to stuff and force the tent back into it. Not sure about the Lone Rider's very red sleeping area interior though: I would prefer a more neutral shade myself.

    • @restdayrider
      @restdayrider  Před rokem +2

      Apparently the red is something to do with the sleep / wake cycle adjustment and actually assists easing one to the other. 😊

    Looks a great tent you made it look easy well done the awning part collecting water maybe just lower the poles by just pulling the bottom of them to the garage part should lower it a little good luck enjoying the vids x

    There are so many things wrong with that tent for Moto camping. No wonder they are getting influencers to push it. It’s too big when packed up and it’s much too big for Moto camping when set. It’s too difficult to set up when conditions are perfect that will be compounded when conditions are adverse. It behaves awfully in strong winds. It’s an eyesore, you might as well have a caravan. The ‘garage’ is a joke, there’s absolutely no need to put your motorcycle away at night. Finally the price!!! It’s simply too much for what it is, in fact Decathalon sell very similar ‘family’ tents for a fraction of the price.
    It’s great for you to be given one to try out but as somebody who is a very experienced camper and a pretty well experienced Moto camper I’ve got one message for people taking up motorcycle camping; Don’t waste your money on that bizarre monstrosity. Perhaps spend half the money on a roomy 3 man tent with a decent porch that you can sit in, one that rolls up compactly, is easy to set up and will keep you cosy in a gale.
    This is using CZcams influencers to sell an overpriced inappropriate product at its worst!!!

    • @restdayrider
      @restdayrider  Před rokem +3

      I would absolutely agree that for a new camper, Moto or otherwise , try cheap and cheerful, beg steal and borrow to decide what works for you, before you invest. 😊

    I had a good laugh about putting your pants on , I am 73 and not willing to crawl around on the ground either .
    I do a lot of winter rallies and putting your tent up in the rain is a breeze when you have full headroom to take of your wet weather gear when the tent is up .
    But near impossible with a low tent , this I know .
    my only reservation with that tent would be its ability to stand up to wind .
    The guy lines seem a bit inadequate .

    Charlie, quite a thorough first impression review and look forward to your end of season thoughts. I have an almost identical tent size wise, a Vango tourisimo 200 which has a 2 berth sleeping compartment and bike garage. I bought it in 2014 for £140 (Go Outdoors sale), should have been over £300 so after 9 years pretty comparable price! I have never put my bike inside and use the extra space as a lounge area. I am classed as disabled but I prefer the term limited and these styles of tent suit me to a “T”. The one thing my tent has that lone rider has not is the Vango tension band system that gives an increased rigidity in strong winds! We are all a bit different so these tents will suit some and not others, I bought a slummit ghobi3 thinking to make putting up and packing away quicker but it isn’t! I’m going to sell the slummit and stick to my Vango!
