Hi from north of France, I'm using the dead wood for a few years now. In my ochard there are a lot of pruned wood, branches, twigs... out of fruit trees, willows, red and black current bushes, elder berries, thornes and brumbles, grape vines...I used to put all that stuff on a pile near an old apple tree. Last year I decided to build a "dry wall" using the dead wood. I noticed that the vegetation by my wood piles was just thriving... So I use 1° the permanent dry wood hedge and a 2° the temporary wood piles that I use to regenerate the soil in vegetable garden or in meadow or in ochard. I move them elsewhere after 3 or 4 years of composting. The soil underneath is just black and smells like a humus.

Hello. Jardin ardennais - thank you for watching our video and for your most interesting comment 💚 It’s good to see wood being recycled instead of being burnt and thank you for getting in touch Have a great weekend All the best Melanie and John 🌸

Interesting idea. We like all the benefits they provide especially having something "ramble" over it as time passes. Creating habitat aa border and compost is a win-win-win!!
    Great video guys!!
    Cheers Jason and Colleen 🌱🌱🌱

Hi Jason and Colleen - thank you and John had been looking into dead hedges for his students and we thought it was a great idea for our laurel hedge cuttings Have a great day today and we do look forward to your daily uploads 👍🏻All the best Melanie and John 🌸

I love love this idea...I've been saving sticks since spring I'm wanting to make a waddle fence around my front flower bed to keep ducks and rabbits out especially. The ducks apparently love lavender. They have killed a couple of my plants. And you know rabbits. Barney and his buddy are so sweet playing together. Thank you for this idea I know a couple places I may implement this 💚🦋

Hi there 😊 we are very glad to have been of help to you and I had no idea about ducks and lavender! Barney on the other hand has taken to pulling sticks out of the hedge for a chew and then leaves them on the lawn 🙄 Have a great day All the best Melanie and John 🌸

What is the pruner that John is using -- a mini chainsaw? Looks so handy for trimming branches and deadfall like this!

How do you keep voles, moles, gophers, groundhogs out of dead hedge -- these animals eat plant roots and damage gardens and yards.

Hello again Melissa - it is impossible to keep animals out of dead hedges to be fair and we suggest you place your dead hedge away from your vulnerable plants if possible All the best Melanie and John 🌸
