Eamon Morrissey appeared on The Late Late Show on Friday April 17, 2009. He did his recitation of A Pint Of Plain. He also did great impersonations of Flann O'Brien and Paddy Kavanagh.
I'm reading it right now and it's hilarious. Wish I'd read it sooner. It's also something that would probably seem very foreign to non-Irish people indeed.
Mike - Eamonn Morrissey is going into Fair City later this month(!), but was on Tubridy last week and said he'll b releasing The Brother this year on DVD.
The seventies normal was it? What a pile of bollox. Yeh errr the golden age of Jimmy Saville and church child abuse, The National Front and violent racism,, The Yorkshire Ripper, The Troubles, Anti Irish bigotry in Britain. So normal. Rose tinted spectacles maybe?
I remember the RTE production of "The Brother" many years ago. It was absolutely superb and extremely funny. I've been trying to find a copy of it on DVD for years, but without any luck. Has anyone ever heard of it being released?
From 'The Brother', adapted Eamon Morrisey from the writings of Myles Na Gopaleen, and originally staged at the Peacock Theatre, Dublin, in 1974. Full text at hellshaw dot com. Ace. ***** 'The Workmans Friend'
I thought he was adding parts to it, i.e 'one thing you will agree...permanence' etc etc But i finished reading At Swim two Birds and every word is verbatim. Its all there. Proud to be Irish....well Northern Irish....that still counts i suppose!
A workin' man, a workin' man
Hurrah hurrah for a workin' man
He'll toil and sweat 'til h'es nearly bet
The gift a God is a workin' man!
Is that canon? I´ll have to lift it and use it freely regardless. Hope you don´t mind!
Fell down to well again. Having a few dozen drinks. Cheers to the alcoholics never give up.
Never a truer word spoken.
A pint of plain is truly your only man. And God knows it, too.

A mucking fasterpiece. I've never read "At Swim-Two-Birds", being intimidated by its reputation, but I mean to now. Thank you for posting this.
Best novel (well, anti-novel would be a more appropriate definition) ever (IMHO). Read it 4 times.
I'm reading it right now and it's hilarious. Wish I'd read it sooner. It's also something that would probably seem very foreign to non-Irish people indeed.
This is so true!
Magical
I was drinking Guinness last night&recited this poem interesting coincidence

Great stuff. Thanks for the info. I contacted RTE and they were happy to sell me a copy on DVD, for a small fee of€100. I'll wait for the release...
Jesus, I miss the 70's. Life was normal then.

Was he not born in Strabane?
@@Humanshieldchorus00 I stand corrected good sir. He was indeed. 👍
I'm not going to pay €100 to RTE for a copy of it, especially as it seems it will be released later this year on DVD (as per the post above).
Flann O’Brien since you neglected to say
Is that canned laughter? Seems odd that folks would chuckle at this
i more like the dubliners version
Point. Toight. Oirish.
