Yea, it's definitely safe to have a giant pit with infrastructure next to a canal without any flood fortifications.
That's how we handle fire hazards. We go full isengard.
Instead of tunnels you should make it so the only way in and out of The Pit/Shelf is via blimp. Blimps that only have one other stop: The Tornado
Next you gotta make the opposite next to the pit. Basically just a towering pyramid/mountain where the the higher you get the nicer it is. With a cool attraction at the top. Call it the stairway to heaven or something like that.

I gotta say Kibz, I've seen a lot of cities in this game over the years, but this pit design is gorgeous and unique. Ive never seen anything like it and oh man do I love it. Its probably not the most efficient design, and doesnt get nearly as much new residents as a standard grid highrise section would but damn this is pretty.
You should hook “the pit” highway entrance directly into the Tornado
This really makes me want a good cyberpunk themed city builder, something I dont think I've seen before...

I've tried multiple times to build a nice looking industrial area but I failed every time, but your industrial areas always look so thought out! It's amazing)

What's opposite of a PIT? A PEAK!! 😁🤣Use one of those blocks of yours (if your looking for other ideas) and raise the terrain like MEGA BILLION HIGH elevation, as a plateau, with sky rise buildings ON THE EDGE and use some space mid mtn climb or at the basin for the Cemeteries, so when they fall off the plateau, they have some where to land, you know? Soft Landing!!

Those bridges don't have nearly enough support. But whaterwer. This city is focusing on making citizens suffer, so making a bridge that will need to be rebuild on daily basis is normal.
What about calling the Pit "Rock Bottom"?
Can you may cover the pit with something and block most of the sunlight for the people in there?

Im still waiting for the next video of Deep Rock Galactic but i guess DRG wouldnt fit in the kind of videos kibitz is producing atm. But him making some drg references in this video gives me some hope
Love the content kibz!! couple suggestions from an engineer!
First one is more of a cities skylines tip. You can set a policy for the put district to “prefer working” (i forget the name) but your cims will choose to work in industry buildings rather then pursue education.
Obviously your cities are the epitome of realism 😂 but those center bridges have way too long of a span without pillars. RCE would not be happy about those lol. Plus I think having pillars going down to the roads below that the trucks have to dodge would be funny.

It's kind of interesting I noticed you went through all that trouble of making the canal, but you've only done one set of ferries for only one zone.
Hey Kibz, here’s a tip that I haven’t seen yet. If you zone a normal district, and go to the industrial specialisation tab in districts, you can make all the zoned industry fit in with your industrial specialisation!
Maybe you could add a cable car into the pit 😅
And what would make it look more crappy, replace the crossing of the bridges with giant roundabouts 😂

You should make an area in front of the amusement park we’re you put tons and tons of dumpster and some how make it a part of the amusement park so people have to walk trough it, plus it would sort your garbage issues for almost the rest of the series.
The Upper roads that cross the pit, should have made those tram roads or something. the added in a lift from up on high to the deep low

There is a mod called walk and drive and it allows you to, well, walk and drive around your city in third and first person! And I would love to see your city in first person.
