    It's incredible how fast technology at a given price point changes. It's a good time to be a filmmaker. I believe you are correct....Godox may be able to continue sales of the SL60w if they drop the price some and rely on the ML60 lights to compete with the Amaran products at this output level. Competition is working so well for us Filmmakers. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to the next one.

    If I were building my travel light kit from scratch today, I would be super psyched about the 60D and 60X. These lights would be incredible to build an air-travel-ready kit around. Don't need a big control plate like the 120D for battery power, and I could fit three of these in the 120D case. All that to say though - the SL60W has been rock solid for me, and it's survived a lot of trips with only one minor surgery necessary to keep it rolling.

    Great job Heather! 🔥 One thing to note is the godox will likely hold heavier modifiers like a softbox better. I think the 60D makes a great backlight that can be used as a key in a pinch.

    • @FellowFilmmaker
      @FellowFilmmaker  Před 2 lety +9

      Actually I've used it with regular sized softboxes and the 60d holds up fine to it! The SL60w is actually worse at holding them due to its plastic inner components for the yoke head.

    Perfect. I have a Godox 60W since 2019 used on most occasions with a 80cm square softbox. Less often, with a 'shower cap' over the included reflector. Fine for interviews or capturing artisans at work when we're both prepared to give time for preparation. The other situations are being able to setup quickly for unprepared opportunities where the light might have to be re-positioned a few times so the Amaran being battery powered and smaller/lighter is enticing. I'm rigging my cameras and peripherals to run from NP-F plates so this keeps everything in NP-F land. Bummer about no battery indicator but I have ways since I fabricate my own plates and cables.

That Amaran 60d seems like a nice light and the ability to use NPF batteries is a nice addition. any possibility to use a V-Mount with DTAP? • @timrober75

    Worth pointing out that with a (surprisingly to me) simple mod of the fan, the SL60W becomes much much quieter, and therefore usable in an interview situation, which the Amaran won't be (judging by your recordings). I also note from your meter readings that 1% on the Amaran is actually brighter than 10% on the Godox... so that would actually mean more adjustment options with the Godox... interesting findings.
    I bought my SL60W for £75 (UK) second hand but unused and it has been brilliant since I got it. Gives a nice option alongside my 2 Falcon Eyes 18TD light mat panels.
    Thanks for all you do Heather :)

I was heartened to find it was simply unscrewing and re-screwing things together, no little bits flying off and hard to put back together. unplugging and plugging a few connectors, and done. Very pleased to have attempted and found it quite easy. :)

    Can you help me understand why the 60d has 2031lux at 1% but in the video you mention it was measured at 930?
    If it's the reflector would it not make more sense to test them without? Otherwise seems like you're measuring the reflector as much if not more than the light.

    • @FellowFilmmaker
      @FellowFilmmaker  Před 2 lety

      I don't recall saying anything about it measuring at 930 lux.
      As far as measuring with a reflector, that's how the numbers are always done in the industry. Without a reflector the light has no direction and the number would be far lower. Beside the fact that no one uses them bare bulb anyway. :)
      So the reflector is used in measuring because it is the way its done, I guess you could say. Of course the type of reflector influences the lux reading along with distance from the light. Sadly many manufacturers make reflectors that can cheat this measurement by creating hotspots with reflectors and make a light seem brighter than it is. Thus why I often opt for an older reflector I have that does not have a hot spot, to use for my readings.
