  • My brother bought a house last fall that had an overgrown little garden patch in the backyard. I'd always wanted to try having a garden, and my dad had previously enjoyed gardening as a kid with his mom, so we decided to join forces to turn the patch into a garden this year.
This video captures the whole process, including weeding and prepping the ground in October, testing the soil's nutrient levels, planning out our rows, and planting (and re-planting 🙃).
Hopefully, I'll be able to provide an update on how everything is doing later in the year, but for now enjoy this first video! 🌱👩🏼‍🌾

Hope everything in the garden comes up! Thanks for the Merlin app suggestion, I use it everyday now.

Garlic you start in the fall as they need about 9 months to grow. Brussel sprouts do best planted early spring as they are a cold hardy plant. Use the grass clippings as mulch around your plants so the weeds don't pop up. Don't use hay unless you know it hasn't been sprayed with herbicides.

Thank you for all of the tips! I think we followed that timing for the brussels but definitely did not plant the garlic last fall… Hadn’t heard about the grass clippings strategy!

You want to gently break the roots apart to help root growth
