Very helpful, thought out and informative video. Great pace of information. Can't say enough of the supporting photography which provides a clear view of exactly what you are speaking to. Well done photographer!
Just ordered this plane and then found this video, very well done, love how it was almost 2 hours long. very enjoyable to watch.
Many thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. If you like long videos, welcome home ;)
Thanks a ton for this video. I couldn't figure out how to setup the safety select until I watched this video. It was either safety or rebind and send it. This is my first 3d plane and I can tell it's going to be a ton of fun.
Glad it helped. Thanks for being here with us, and hope you'll come back for more. We have thousands of videos, of varying levels of helpfulness, but they're there for you when you're ready!
Always enjoy your looonnng videos Brian. Great to see the unboxing and build session and then the excellent flying. Lets hope you have less killing grounds this year. Loved the Extra, what a cool looking plane. Keep the vids going.
Just bought one from the hobby store and I’m listening to this video on the way home😄
Update: just took it on its maiden flight! He’s right when he says it flies as straight as an arrow! It’s amazing how docile it can be on safe mode and can almost be flown as a trainer, and then when safe is switched off it becomes a whole different plane! I’m definitely not regretting getting this one😁
Awesome! Glad you like it! She can do what you want NOW! So much power, and so little weight, and very pretty!!!
Soooooo glad you made this video!!!! Before I seen this, I already ordered MY extra 300!
(As I find a plane I like, I find YOUR videos of that model. Then I decide! 👍)
@@BrianPhillipsRC
I maiden-ed my eflite ultimate 3d biplane this afternoon. On 3s, (smart 2200) it was twitchy. (I like twitchy! 😁)
Thank you so much for the video.Mostlly i really appreciate real-time building of the plane.
You are welcome! Glad you enjoy it. We try to do that for all planes, so people can see if they're as good as we or the MFG say...then you get to make up your own minds.
Great video. Thanks Brian and camera crew. I have one of these and love it.
Gorgeous and cool! And the NX6 screen looked fine even in the cold.
Agreed! You're right....way better than the Backlit LCD's on the DX lineup.
Just bought this plane. The glue on the hinge and the million turns to get the wing screws in are a pain. Thought I ripped the nut out of the foam but gonna tighten it more once I watched you. The rest is awesome to build. Can’t wait to get it in the air. First plane in 4 yrs. looks amazing.
15 flights and no issues. Your video also was helpful for binding because my last plane had chips in the radio. Binding was easy once I saw you do it. The plane Manuel failed a little there. I had the same reaction as you...”WHAT BIND PIN???”
Thanks again.
I got to fly a full size Extra 330 once. It was a blast! My Daughter bought me a 2 hour flight experience at my local airport! Thanks Vanessa! 😘❤️
What an unreal experience!!! It had full span ailerons. I was a bit messed up from all the high G’s I pulled. The actual pilot told me the fluid in your ears mess with ya for a bit after the flight. I did rolls, loops, and high pull outs of some deep dives!!!
Did you puke? I bet I'd be sick as a dog....I used to be able to ride anything at the amusement parks, but now, I can't even ride the "Little Kid" rides without needing to spew!!!
Sucks to get old ;(
Nope, I grew up on boats my whole life, I don’t get sea sick either. When I was an infant my parents would put me in the bow of our small (16 ft.)speedboat on a bed of life jackets and the minute that Mercury out board fired up it was like I took a sleeping pill, I was out like a light! My brothers and sisters would ski their heads off and I would sleep like I was dirt napping! LOL!!! 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 I am the youngest of 4.
This video is longer than most Marvel movies :) That said, thanks for the full 100% build/setup start to finish. I wish every plane would have such a comprehensive video. You rocked this one.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it! We have plenty of long videos, and we get a lot of people who LOVE it and a few who HATE it ;) Glad you enjoyed the comprehensiveness!
Funny, I marveled at how short this particular posting was. Some run as long as five friggin' hours!
@@BrianPhillipsRC No shame in being thorough,... in-fact, I wished more people were like you, and got down and dirty and showed the entire process... cut screens really suck, and do nothing for people like myself and the rest here, that appreciate what you do,... Great job brother! Cheers!!
I got today my Habu rtf, enjoyng the pc sim atm. Great product. Loving your crazy long vids.
Nice extra video on a Monday! It has been extra cold here, too. The Extra 300 has some extra large ailerons for some extra snappy rolls. It makes for extra fun flying ... even when your fingers are extra cold!
Yeah, the 3D flying was keeping my fingers warm, like jogging - LOL ;)
Plane is pretty awesome, but I'm just no 3D pilot :( Maybe in another 10 years - LOL!!!
Cool Video Brian! I miss my EXTRA 300 that I used to have! Was a HITEC WEEKENDER. GREAT FLYING MAN!! 🤘🤘
Thanks! When the weather is warmer, we hope to get some better footage too ;)
This video is two hrs long and i enjoyed every minute of it . Thank you and you now have a new subscriber 😊
I have never flown a plane but today after another video of yours I ordered the nx10 and soon to buy the elite extra 300
Hi brian...thanks for another great video...thanks camera crew...brian i stay in South Africa and our beloved hobby on this side of the world is sometimes so expensive...can hardly afford it... but you close your eyes and go for it....i bought a dynam pitts python...wonderful plane...i would love to see a unboxing, build video of that....kind regards Chris
HI Bryan, after your footage on Messerschmitt BF 110, I bought the same plane and I recieve it today. I have the same problem with scew for stabilizer and tail. Also the pushrod for ruder. In France, we said " I pull my hair" !!!. so, I change the scew ( 8 mm and 15 mm ), more longer and it's OK now. Very pretty plane, I like it. Apologize for my english not very fluently.
You did just fine on your English ;) The BF110 is a handful :) Glad you could learn something from my review, and avoid some of the same pitfalls we experienced.
Another great video, fun to watch you two work these together. The pilot looks like the same dude who flys the FMS 1400mm V2 Pitts, I wonder if this is an Eflite / FMS model. The build and the screws make it look like FMS. Good shout on flaperons. Setting up flapreons also provides for differential ailerons allowing you to forget the ail>rud mix. Spectrum makes this so easy. Thanks for the videos.
You're welcome, THANK YOU!
This guy (me), is the guy who did many other planes, we did recently do the FMS 1400mm Pits Vs (Awesome Plane)
@@BrianPhillipsRC We maidened our FMS Pitts 1400 just last week and only after watching your videos. We fell victim to the addiction (~40 planes and climbing) and our maiden flights have gone quite well [~ 99.9% survival rate :) ] because of your expertise. Special thanks to you both.
Planning to maiden mine this weekend... Thanks for the review!
Good luck Kelly! She's a well refined plane, but if you want a more "scale" feeling flight, I'd encourage you to plop a bigger lipo in there, and make her a bit nose heavy, and make ONE top expo setting for about 45% and rates about 75% and she'll feel like the Timber 1.5m ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC CG’s really well with an old school admiral 4s 3600... it’ll be interesting to see how she takes some G’s! Thanks for the various rates!
Very nice plane this have checked it out before. Good job 😊👍
Perfect timing, just ordered plane last week!!!
Brian, got back into hobby after 30 year hiatus after seeing your vids on CZcams. Bought a Hobbyking tundra V2 and am training my son. Great to be back! Thanks for all the help. Completely different world from my balsa n glow days. Training myself up for FMS 1700 mm Corsair and eventually the Freewing F14 to relive my early years as a Tomcat pilot. Take care and keep up the awesome work.
Hey Brian hope you guys are doing good very helpful video just got the plane this week I put it together tonight planning on flying tomorrow first 3D planethanks for the video and you guys have a good one a big wave from Pipers Gap Virginia
Brian, Thanks, you are through and helpful. I am old school and you have been helpful with catching up to the new tech. , same as the old, just more technology. you are great at explaining what needs to be done and your "helper" does a great job as well. Thanks again.
Awesome aircraft. Locked in. I have 27 airplanes and it is still my favorite.
@@BrianPhillipsRC but, the Mamba 60 is new to me and gaining ground quickly. The 300 has at least 300 flights on it and I can attest to it's durability.
Used the link. Bought the plane. Looking for the FedEx truck every 5 mins. Supposed to be here in the next hour or so.
We will have the video playing while we assemble, so I hope you didn't make any mistakes. Ha ha !
As I mention from time to time, on a plane with lots of surface movement like 3d, you can fine tune the trim settings on Spektrum. This is a must when 1 click up results in a climb and 1 click down results in a dive. Go to the setup menu and trim setup. The default steps are 5, or 5 steps per “click”. Set these to 2 or whatever smaller number feels best for you on any surface needing fine tuning. Now each “click” of trim only move 2 steps or whatever number you entered. It takes a lot of “beeps” to make large adjustments now but the fine tuning is much better for finding the center.
NICE - I knew that, but had totally forgotten it. Thanks for the tip!!! I need to do that on the Elevator of this and the Edge 540 too!
Thanks ;)
Thank you I really wanted you to review this plane 🇬🇧
You're welcome! Thanks for giving us the opportunity to review it for you guys!
Great vid I sold my 300 a year ago very regretful sale, but goin to pick up another one tomorrow can't wait to fly it again they are awesome,
@@BrianPhillipsRC excellent I'm in New Zealand the local shop I'm at now only has the plug and plays left that's fine as I have spare 6 channel receiver, just watched your vid of flying it 6 years your doin very well excellent flying
Brian, you made my day. I tried importing the Extra 300 BNF setup that came in my NX8. I could never get Safe mode assigned to a switch. When your setup starting from scratch was followed it worked. Now I need to get up the courage to take this wild child and see what it will do, in Safe first.
Beautiful plane., I’m thinking about purchasing one. I will have to fly on safe for awhile.
If you do, just jack up the EXPO and you'll have a good chance at success.
I'm not into 3D flying at all, but I do like sport flying and love the looks of this Extra 300. Will go on my list of planes to get eventually and I would need to cut the throw rates severely for the way I fly.
@@BrianPhillipsRC just ordered the NX8 Transmitter from your site. I have a DX8 Gen1....finally realized that the new AS3X and Safe Receivers I've been ordering won't work on my DX8 GEN1 so time for an upgrade.
"Canada, you can have your weather back, thank you..." ... sorry, Canadian people love to share !! ;-) ... Wonderful plane, thank you from Quebec where I fly with skis on my plane !
Just flew a maiden on this. No AS3X! Unfortunately only on 3s. :(
Great little plane, could use a little more rudder authority in comparison to higher end 3d planes. 3s just doesn't have enough power for hard 3d. Harrier rolls... SURPRISINGLY smooth. Knife edge...it gets it but old school, need some speed and a lot of rudder as there is a lot of drop out but it is a scale profile and a bit on the heavy side. Low hover it needed too much throttle to feel comfortable on 3s. Pop tops are smooth, knife edge spins were a chore to find the sweet spot but it was doable once you figure it out. Good plane.
Camera Crew is doing a great job as usual. Sounds just like my wife. "Can't see a thing". We live near a small executive airport and my wife sometimes ends up filming real planes taking off and landing :-)
Nice! Are you, by chance, piloting the full scale planes? I assume you're both into aviation? Megan is very supportive of my efforts on CZcams, but she's not "into aviation" any more than she has an appreciation from what I've taught her over the years.
@@BrianPhillipsRC I do have fixed wing & rotor-craft ratings. Owned a Cessna 210 and 182 for several years. Only building foamboard planes and flying my drone for now. Retirement is 2 years out and I had to invest for my future. My wife is NOT into aviation but does support my hobbies tremendously. I'll dabble back into real flying after retirement.
Amazing Brian. Well done.
Shoestring 15e next? Good winter project...lol
Sorry, I wouldn't hold your breath on that ARF. We MIGHT try an ARF, but this would not be my first pick, and very hard to film the "only fast" planes. I've flown one that's super similar, and I didn't care for the way it flies or the stress ball it ended up being - This all being said from a HIGHLY SUBJECTIVE SLANT...Don't let me stop you from enjoying a plane you think you might love. There's a million flavors out there, and who knows, I've reviewed many planes that aren't exactly "up my alley", and some have become my favorites. The point of my reply, beyond consistency, it to not leave you hanging - I hate when CZcamsrs do that.
@@BrianPhillipsRC it’s all good. I’ve only had foamies and trying to decide which kit to try for balsa planes. The Shoestring is a good looking plane, but I agree, it also looks stressful to fly. Your Sig Four Star 20 looks like a fun/relaxing plane but I’m not sure I’m ready for a complete build kit. Thanks for your reply and keep up the awesome work.
I love mine! Set your expo at 45 if you're new to 3D and pitch the nose down just a tiny bit mechanically!
I think I have it about there now. We filmed out "Second Thought" video, and loads of Expo and possibly a bit less on rates will tame her down nicely.
@@BrianPhillipsRC ignore that comment (deleted) Thought that was on the timber x video.😂 Oops... 😂

Happy birthday! I planned it all out this way - it was supposed to be your present ;)
FINALLY!!! :) Awesome review man and thanks for flying in "normal low-rates" mode as well. I really dislike those wing screws.........VERY ANNOYING for transport.
Glad I could help! Wing screws suck, but at least there's less of them, and they do line up easier on the second and third time putting them together, in our experience.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Yeah I just ended up foam tacking the screws in :) The whole plane fits in my X3 with the seats down. haha!
Just got mine finished. Balanced nice on 4 cell smart 2200.i couldn't get close on 3s.😳
Yeah, I wouldn't even try this plane on 3S - what's the point - She's a 3D plane...and she wants the power!!!! ;)
Other than obviously keeping SAFE enabled, what rate and exponent settings would you recommend for an intermediate pilot who’s only flown 1.3+ meter trainers over the years? I’ve been on an RC plane hiatus for about 30 years but recently picked up an RTF Carbon Cub S 2 that I’ve been flying fairly successfully… although I’ve not landed it on Advanced yet. Today I was at the local hobby shop and felt compelled to buy this Extra 300 when I saw it but haven’t flown it yet. I got an NX8 transmitter to go with it.
This is all pretty new stuff for me as my last planes were early ‘90s tech with FM transmitters and receivers so it’s weird to have all the flexibility.
Just follow along the way I set mine up in the video, and if you want it to feel a bit more TAME, run Expo rates another 15-20% on each of the axis of control. You can fly it exactly as I fly it, and you'll be fine, but you can always flip the F switch down and make the plane real muted, if you do it my way.
You can do it! This plane is way more capable than the Carbon Cub S2, but you can do it!
Hey Brian I'm a fan of your videos and very new to this awesome hobby. Are you able to do a short video on going through mixing and on setting up the 3-axis gyro on the spektrum nx range. Also is the 3-axis gyro needed with trainer planes such as the 1.3 carbon cub. Cheers mate
The Gyro is built in on these planes. It's called AS3X (Artificial Stabilization Three Axis).
I do this in every Unbox, Build, Radio Setup, and Maiden Flight video. Enjoy :)
Hey Brian how do you perfer to control the sticks on your transmitter. Do you pinch or thumb roll? And what would you recommend a rookie to learn? I feel more comfortable with thumb roll on my cub in advance mode but I don't want to develop bad habits. So you advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Yessss finally almost to 100 k I bet you’ll do it before the end of next month!!!!
edit: could you review the fms 2000mm beaver?
I want to do the beaver - oh, I just heard it ;)
I agree about the 100k by end of next month...then I'll be launched to live with Elon Musk on Mars ;) (is that what happens??? - LOL)
Wow 😳 Brian... That was a very fast take off .. do you have to fly in 3D.. ok well I guess it can be flown is standard flight also I just heard you talk about it 😅👍🏾..
Yes and yes. I need to dial down the 3D by using a bit heavier lipo, and possibly a bit more nose heavy, and also setting the elevator to about 75% rates, and 45% expo...then she'd fly more like a "conventional" plane. It is ON RAILS, but I was afraid of having her come out from under herself, and I didn't want to do another "repair" video - LOL ;)
You should try a rudder aileron mix for hovering helps with the torque spin I run 65% rudder 45% aileron. Hovers need less input needed as well
Really?!?!? That's cool. Thanks for the tip. I could tie it to my "Crazy" Expo mode...
@@BrianPhillipsRC I set up a crazy mode like yours as well it’s a lot of fun although it’s only been on my timber x and umx turbo timber it’s a blast with that and some mixing. Still undecided between the biplane and 300 tho. Btw you could also try a rudder to elevator mix to aid as well if that suites your flying style better. I like the other mix cause it’s also fun for harriers.
There are no hinges on the elevator, just a thin piece of foam connecting it all. Mine ripped apart during a high speed dive to a rapid pull out (suicide) and I lost the airframe. If you are going to fly hard core 3D you need to reinforce the elevator hing line either by cutting and installing hinges or using foamtac and blenderm tape.
Yeah you need to put real hinges on it just slice the surface right off and glue in hinges
There actually are hinges in the elevator, they're at both ends of the hinge line
I like scale flying better to, just trying to expand and push myself to learn more to be a better pilot.
True, and agreed. I just don't want people to blame the plane for my absence of quality 3D or Heli skills. I'd rather own it, and just make sure to clarify it. I'm still a pretty new pilot in general too, but I do love learning a new skill.
@@BrianPhillipsRC If you call yourself a pretty new pilot in general then I can’t wait to see when your a more experienced pilot. I’d love to have just have your flying skills right now!!!!!!
@ Brian.....I really appricate and enjoy all your RC videos.....QUESTION: ......Being new to the RC hobby and waiting for Springtime to get here so I can learn to fly on my high wing trainers, right now I can only practice on my RF simulator ....however when I do select the electric mid size aerobatic type models, they are a lot more sensitive but I also find them easier for me to fly and float into the landings with .....so in real life, with some tamed down expo settings, would a 3D smaller to mid size electric plane be something a beginner could actually learn to fly on, because I just picked up an older E Flight Mini Funtana X too....thanks..
Trust me, No...they're good flying, but way harder than a tame, trainer with some dihedral and sprinkle in some SAFE and you've got an almost "un-crashable" plane ;)
"Power saves planes lives", but OVER-CONTROL is the demise of most RC newbs...This plane will have power to give the pilot leeway when they find themselves in "trouble" but with the crazy control throws, you'll end up in trouble WAY more often.
Please resist the urge to skip steps. You'll be a happier, BETTER pilot if you can - Most don't and they end up with a plane that's too advanced that they have to stare at and be taunted for years ;(
You can do it, but I'd not recommend this plane for a beginner, even with tons of expo and SAFE.
Brian. Have you ever done the eflight F4? If not I would love to see you build and fly it.
I have not, and I don't believe I'll be able to do it. I WANT to, but I don't think it's going to happen, even though I'd invite the opportunity :(.... Sorry!
i own the same plane, the receiver only has one antennal, while flying i kept loosing signal, what do you think it the issue? wish it had two antennas. i almost crashed due to keep losing signal
What do you think of the e flite ultimate 3D bi plane? I have the extra 300 and it flies like a dream.
The Ultimate 3D is also very cool! It also features Reverse Thrust, and I reviewed it too.
My only issue with 3D planes is that 3D flying is not my area of interest. I prefer flying scale planes.
Nice plane! Looks well beyond my skills though.
You'd be surprised that you probably can, with some practice, but 3D is almost a different flying skill.
Awesome plane Nice flying I never thought about trying to drift a plane lol That was cool right after you landed the last time that drift right at the end was sick 🔥👍
Great vid as always guy's 🔥👍✌️
LOL - I did the same thing with the P-51D 1.5m...only I drifted into the ditch - LOL!!!!!!
That nx 6 does it have the bind and fly models already programmed like nx10
Now this is a seriously impressive offering. Ok, it’s on my birthday/Christmas list.

Thanks Brian as soon as its done I will let you teach me how to fly it. Or at least film the crash and see how well the glue holds. Lol
Can you take the wing off reasonably easily for transport? I notice the wing comes on with 4 screws.
It would be a pain, but I think you could do it. This plane is so "flat" it might fit into a vehicle easier than you might expect.
About to buy this airplane and the NX8 8-Channel DSMX transmitter. A few questions. Is battery telemetry to the transmitter supported? If not is there a compatible receiver than does this? What initial expo and rate settings would you recommend for a pilot with a ton of 30 year old glow experience getting back into the hobby? (I'm getting pretty good on the Carbon Cub I bought on your recommendation.) Will it take a larger than 3200 4s battery? It looked like the wing decals had some bubbles. Was that just lighting or something that needs fixed?
Thanks for the great reviews and detailed build videos. First class all the way!
I setup the EXPO and RATES in this video, and then refined them a bit. Just copy my initial setup, and you'll find it nice and easy, then you can flip LOWER, or HIGHER depending on your taste. If you have that much experience, you'll be 100% fine on this plane, so don't worry about it at all. She's rock solid, and I don't really do it any justice, since 3D is not my forte.
Decals are no issue, in my opinion. You can spend hours refining these planes, but I've learned my lesson with spending hours and hours and hours...better to spend hours and hours and hours FLYING ;) That being said, you will LOVE this plane.
The NX8 will be a GREAT option... It's only like $40 more than the NX6, so it's a no-brainer, and you'll get tons of models before you'll even find a need for the 9th or 10th channel, or even "miss" the sliders...I've had sliders on DX18, and a couple other radios, and while it's nice to have the flexibility, I never REALLY used them. I think I used them once, and I could have easily gotten by without them...it was for testing some settings on the F-14 was playing with.
Glad you're here with us, and glad you're making these picks - you'll LOVE THEM BOTH!!!

As for your question about battery life...if the plane has AR631 WITH an Avian ESC, you will get FULL battery telemetry, otherwise, you'll get just the Rx (BEC) voltage. This is a MISS in my opinion on HH's part. For these prices, the AR631 needs to support PACK and CELL voltages. These are my GO-TO Telemetry values. They're WHAT I want. Forward programming is nice, but only if you'll be using SAFE/AS3X...so if I'm not getting pack and cell voltages, they can basically keep the telemetry (but it IS cool)...and I preface that with on a sailplane...I want all the telemetry for vario ;)
Keep in mind, you'll need to be using SMART packs for ALL the pack voltages, as that comes through the AVIAN ESC through the "DATA" line (The grey wire in between main discharge leads on the SMART Pakcs - G1 or G2)
3 of us at the club have this and we put a GPS module in one. 89 mph and went straight up 1500 ft (kidding Mr FAA) in seconds!
Wondering if you can Forward Programe the receiver. If so, how about configuring with flaperons to reduce landing speed and increase approach angle. Any thoughts?
No, not on the BNF models, at the moment. This is an issue I'd like to have corrected with HH. I want full access to the BNF planes. I want to be able to change them at MY will. This is a big gripe I've had for YEARS, and I'll speak with them about it.
My feeling is that we bought it, we should be able to change the settings. That being said, the AR637TA - same thing...we ought to be able to set it up however we want.
If you update the firmware or reload the current firmware you can factory reset the reciever and program it to your liking.out of the box you can't even adjust the gains for the as3x or anything, but after reloading the current firmware you can.
You should try to put the water skids on the carbon cub s and take it off on the snow
I've been hearing this a lot. We had the lipos ready to go for the EC1500 on Saturday, but the weather was CRAP (again)....but we'll keep trying.
No worries, i can tell that the weather up there is very bad from all the snowy videos these past couple of months, I’m guessing there’s lots of wind.
Hi, what flightime can I expect from 2200 mAh 4S battery? One flight or two/three?
My plane purchase this summer is looking like the ultimate 3d or the extra 300. Which would you prefer and why? I am not really a 3d pilot either but I want to play around with it. I practice on my sim in hopes of learning some maneuvers. That being said your opinion would be valuable in helping make the decision. Thanks Brian and crew!
I think the Ultimate having reverse thrust, is very cool, but I prefer the looks and feel of the Extra 300...and reverse thrust is SCARY to me ;)

Hi Brian love your channel, I bound this to my old dx6i but for some reason the as3x doesn't seem to work? I have tried it with and binding without safe select. Also even after 75% throttle blast, still no as3x.............I'm stumped,
Shouldn't matter that it's a dx6i, but I'm not 100% sure if that gets ACTIVATED when the binding procedure says "AUTO CONFIGURATION" on the new NX8, for example...I thought that was always a telemetry configuration....
@@BrianPhillipsRC I think I'm just going to have to buy a newer transmitter with all the problems I've been having binding to newer planes, Thanks Brian
Get video on the 300. Just got mine and did the program in SAFE. But when I tried to assign it to my B switch it did not take. Have a call into HH but might you have ideas?
Hello, does the motor regulator have to be programmed if you use 3S and 4S batteries? thank you and happy flying.
The ESC is going to work on either size battery, and no programming is necessary unless you choose a totally different ESC, as a replacement...but even then, if it's rated for the size you want, shouldn't have to do anything too fancy.
I can't get the rudder and stabilizer aligned properly. It seems like the hinges are preventing alignment because they won't insert completely in the vertical stabilizer
I honestly don't know why you're having issues...I don't remember gluing on the tail...DID WE???
hi i like your videos i have question can i bind without changing numbers on settings?
Brian, Did you ever try the G2 3300 4S battery in this plane? If so did it change the CG? What's is your opinion on what you would buy as far as battery for this Plane? I want order it though your website to give back for the information!
What is the biggest battery I can run in this plane ik they say 3200mah 4s but cannot find info on c rating
I would only run 2200mAh 4S 30-50C...but if you want to squeeze something bigger in there, go for it. Keep in mind, 3D planes are really set free by getting the CG where YOU want it...so use the right pack for the job...and adjust your own behavior to whatever the plane needs (shorter flight times or longer - it will decide for you)
Great video. I don't understand when you refer to "hammerhead"? A hammerhead is a precision vertical stall turn where the nose is vertical and you pivot on a wing tip with rudder to head straight down on the same vertical upline. Hovering is hovering with thrust vectoring with all control surfaces at 3D control rates. I was just confused by your use of terminology.
metal gears are great but inside of a plastic case, in my experience the inside of the case will erode or become compromised in one way or another, so yeah the gears might not strip as easily but the case inside will not hold gears and pin in place properly. So if you know how to replace the gears in a servo I recommend metal gears with a metal case.(BK ultra's, although i have been out of the sport for few years now) It's amazing that when the box is foam, and the plane is foam, how beautiful a wooden propeller can be, that's right boys we used to make things out of wood
I am late to the party on this video but you make what is a notoriously difficult airframe to fly look like a low wing trainer plane. Is it really that easy to fly? Just bought a Maule and a replacement Timber X but now this has made me question if I have done the right thing!
I'm no 3D pilot, but this plane can be made to fly pretty tame. Also, it was cold too - so no help from Mother Nature ;)
Night timber maiden flight failure
Brine Hey Cuz somehow I knew I shouldn’t have gone up because I didn’t finish programming new spectrum nx6/7 remote I thought I had but it was opposite I had expert on and it went up like a beast and was vertical I’m not a vertical flyer yet I got it back over so it could crash in my yard broak that beautiful prop man you got a number on that night timber prop so I could order another one or two✌️
You can follow this link, and then scroll down to the "Replacement Parts" below, and you can see it there (13 X 4)...
Night Timber X 1.2m bit.ly/2CB9I9d
If that's out of stock, try these...

Hey man yes that really did help was able to find that part number they were out of stock I found it on Amazon same part way cheaper and they have next day delivery
Thanks again watching some of your new planes I’m picking up on some of the remote Programming having a weird time thinking expo was the same as safe I don’t know how to figure that out yet assigning to a switch doesn’t work when I hold the lever and restart the remote I have some time props on the way thanks again I think I need to leave the flaps Alone for the maiden ✌️👍😂
OK Brian got plane back together ready for maiden flight number two I’m going to go up no flaps I have a long runway and if I can’t get it in safe I will just have to fly it right back in expert I’m getting pretty good you are a good teacher I understand where you coming from I could tell that you know your aviation in real life I myself am in the training process to become a pilot also this is teaching me the lingo and how everything responds to the wind great lesson for a pilot I would recommend everyone to start off with the new electrical rc remote before you get your real license🇺🇸👍✌️👍
Before I did my maiden 2nd maiden I gave the night timber beast a little power up test and it was so powerful it blew the cow Completely off that was scary 😟 OK got it back together also my lights in the front ain’t working but looks like it’s ready to fly for a Second maiden 😬✈️
8 days no electric in Wv due to major ice storm, good to see some one flying 😀😄. Have you heard anything about N X 8 with all your inside connection, over 3 months now since I pre ordered.
I have a wood burning stove that is ducted to heat the whole house, back up natural gas wall mount stoves. Low voltage led that is solar charged to light the house if I turn generator on it’s just for Tv and freezers.A decade ago we use to go thru this a lot but the area has grown tremendously. We are pretty prepared for such things but it still can be a pain, getting in and out to vehicles by four wheelers. The terrain here is fairly mountainous.
This plane is on my hot list I fly it in RF 9.5 and it's amazing, using low rates with expo is it pretty easy going until my skills improve?
I'd use more EXPO, rather than lower rates...or a combination of both, but otherwise sure.
So going back to the unplanned disassembly of your 7000MAh 6S Smart Lipo Was it the F4U Corsair?
Thanks Brian, awesome flying in the cold. What was you flite time?
I don't recall, but we talk about it briefly in the video....If not, we apologize, and WILL speak to that in a Second Thoughts video...OR just kind look at the time on the status bar when I take off, and you can figure on a few seconds (30 seconds) for walking to the plane and so on and so forth...will give you an idea.
I was wondering if you ever put a great planes u can do plane together. If so do you have any videos on it. I know its a older plane but im starting to assemble it.
I haven't built a plane called "Great Planes" since it's a brand. Is there a NAME of the model? I have used Great Planes stuff before...
I ve done the Same on my dx6e and i only get as3x and i dont know how to get safe on it does any one know what to do ?
You need to get it bound and then try these steps. You'll get it....
You CAN, and will after you follow these steps - I've had this comment from probably 50 or more, just as adamant as you, and they got theirs working ;)
Step 1) Make sure you're BOUND with SAFE SELECT ON. If you're NOT 100% sure - DO IT AGAIN, and make sure the surfaces "Dance" through the mix TWICE at power up...NOT ONCE...Once means you're in AS3X only mode.
Step 2) Go to MONITOR MODE, and watch the switch change the condition of the channel you THINK is assigned to the SWITCH YOU WANT TO USE - If it doesn't change state, go to System Setup and make the Channel Assignment to that switch. Now exit the menu and verify the changes took in Monitor Mode.
Step 3) Now that you're 100% sure you're BOUND in SAFE Select, and you have an operational switch for channel (I think 5-8) assigned, go ahead and pull both sticks DOWN and IN, and then toggle the switch to a count to 10 (NOT 5)....most people don't count a FULL CYCLE of the switch...so they never get to 5 full back and forth cycles... On step 9 of 10, you'll see the surfaces twitch, and on 10 of 10 they'll "recenter" again.
Here's PROBABLY what you're doing wrong...it's a super easy mistake to make, and you'll immediately get it if you are doing this wrong...
Switch Up to Switch Down = 1
Switch Down to Switch Up = 2
Switch Up to Switch Down = 3
Switch Down to Switch Up = 4
Switch Up to Switch Down = 5
Switch Down to Switch Up = 6
Switch Up to Switch Down = 7
Switch Down to Switch Up = 8
Switch Up to Switch Down = 9
Switch Down to Switch Up = 10
When Horizon Hobby wrote those instructions they said 5 times, so this is what they meant, but it's confusing if not elaborated upon...
Switch Up to Switch Down = 0
Switch Down to Switch Up = 1
Switch Up to Switch Down = 1
Switch Down to Switch Up = 2
Switch Up to Switch Down = 2
Switch Down to Switch Up = 3
Switch Up to Switch Down = 3
Switch Down to Switch Up = 4
Switch Up to Switch Down = 4
Switch Down to Switch Up = 5
...pretty confusing, right??!?!?
Step 4) The ONLY issue that might prevent this all from working is that your sticks are WAY out of calibration... if so, the Tx might not realize you're in the Lower Left or Lower Right position, thus preventing the designation when you hit flip 10... so if this ends up being the case, which I highly doubt, then you need to calibrate your sticks and then follow back from step 2 maybe.
Good luck - you can do it!
Here is a tech question: Is it possible to adjust SAFE settings? for example, can I go into Forward Programming and adjust the bank angles and add F modes? Can I see SAFE without Telemetry?
I think you can, but I've never played with that setting, since I've always been satisfied with the stock configuration.
Brian every plan that I own u have assisted me in building it ! I own over 10 now I’ve only been flying for about 2months !! I’m super hooked ! Thanks for the great content it really helps !!!!
Awesome! Another addict ;) 10 planes in two months, better get your basement cleaned out - LOL!!!
Congrats of very quick progression & so glad you're here with us!
