INSANE, Only have had them for about 10 days, but already my fave thing Ive ever used. The turntable plays great, the cue buttons feel good and no latency, the screens help to see quick info without staring at your laptop. but my fave thing is when people started dancing on the stage I simply lifted the needle off and cradled it to keep from skipping. Yet still have that great vinyl feel and look. If you like turntables there simply is NO controller or CDJ that compares in feel. you will love these.

Is it compatible with de XDJ-XZ so you can use all the features of the CRSS12?
Because the XDJ-XZ is capable of DVS with Serato and rekordbox, the PLX-CRSS12 will be compatible. Please note that the CRSS12’s DVS control can be used with any Serato or rekordbox supported mixer, controller, or all-in-one with DVS capability.

Most excellent review, you did a great job explaining it. One question, I love Pioneer gear, I have quite a bit of vintage pioneer equipment I've purchased in the past couple years, can I just use this turntable for just playing records, I like to buy new and innovative equipment so will this work for my application? Also, can you tell me the model number of the controller between the two turntables so I can look it up and the pricing please?
The PLX-CRSS12 is actually a great vinyl record playback device. The Magvel Clamp actually reduces vibration noise and helps flatten warped records.
The mixer used in this video is the DJM-S11.
It looks like this turntable is the new standard. I think technic is in trouble. Maybe the technic 1200’s price might finally come down from double what they used to be.

Can you have 2 of them controll 4 lanes (like you can with some of your controllers?)
The performance pads can, but the DVS timecode cannot. The reason is because the performance pads are MIDI. The DVS signal however requires having the RCA plugged to the 3rd or 4th channel.

What stylus you use with your cartridge?
Do the Start/Stop, Motor Off, 33, 45, Step Pitch, Application, Deck, Reset buttons are midi mappable ?
Everything but the platter is MIDI-mappable. That includes the motor, start/stop, pitch slider, and even the 3 toggle brake switch.
There is no calibration scope within serato when u plug and play correct ? Could I use a non pioneer mixer numark scratch?
You can check the calibration scope since it’s still DVS, but you can turn the noise sensitivity all the way down since the signal will not be interrupted by vibration.
When will it be (really) available at European DJ shops? (I've been looking for a DJM S-11 for months, with no success, so I felt completely discouraged and then gave it up!) Any suggestion is more than welcome.

The 4 deck control only refers to the pads and OLED display. But because it only outputs to one pair of RCA, DVS control is limited to the one deck it’s plugged into.
Do you have to have a laptop to play digital files or can I just plug in a USB memory pen like you do with XDJ etc?
The PLX-CRSS12 can play vinyl records or control DJ software using the built in DVS. It is not a standalone digital player.

Can you control 4 decks in serato with 2 crss12's and a 4 channel mixer?
DVS control is directly linked to which ever phono input you are plugged to, which only allows one deck control per input. So if you have two turntables, you can only control two decks with DVS. In order to control more, you will need two additional hardware decks.
MIDI control of the performances pads on the PLX-CRSS12 functions differently. You can toggle through any of the 4 decks’ performance pads and pad modes on one PLX-CRSS12.

Make sure the RCA cables are connected to phono, and toggle the needle mode to “digital vinyl” so the timecode signal is enabled.
Will you be able to use the turntable with just the USB and without the RCA if you are using it digital only?
The USB connection is for the pads and some info on the OLED display. The DVS control generates a timecode noise map from the turntable itself.
You can control DVS without the USB connection. But you can control DVS without the RCA.

The PLX-CRSS12 itself is not a hardware unlock device. However, in order to use it, you must use a mixer capable of DVS. Most officially supported rekordbox mixers with DVS are hardware unlock devices. Does the USB plug into the mixer or direct into the computer? Ie could this be used with non-Rekordbox or Serato certified mixers such as A&H?
The USB connectivity goes to your computer. But some mixers like the DJM-S11 and DJM-S7 have a built in USB hub on the back of the mixer.

There is no built in interface on them so it will have to be connected to a DJ mixer or DJ interface.

No, the diameter of the clamp is larger than a 45 adapter.
Why do they have 8% on these but not on the Cdjs? I want to see 8% on the next cdjs

If you’re playing vinyl, it doesn’t require a computer. If you are playing DVS, it requires a computer.

Hello, Pioneer said this turntable has technically improved over plx 1000. However, I cannot see the point as long as the underlying engine is the USUAL Hanpin! For instance, let's take a look at WOW & Flutter: Plx 1000 was initially declared to exhibit a figure of 0.1%, later amended to 0.01%, while Pioneer DJ PLX-CRSS12 is claimed to display 0.15%. Hence, by just looking at the announced figures, the new CRSS12 performs WORSE THAT the old PLX1000. Not to mention that SL 1200 spécifications indicate 0.025%. What can you say about that? FYI, my old SL 1200 MK2 scores 0.3%, while my new Plx 1000 shows 0.6% on average.
@meggg126, ok, so.......first, the PLX-1000 was not ammended to .01. Second, the 1200mk2's wow and flutter is highly dependent on the sample that is tried, as if you look on the world turntable database the W&F is anywhere from .03 to .27. Third, the reason that the W&F is listed as less than .15 is that with the magvel clamp, on the lower tension settings (past the center dot toward the loose side) the record is actually lifted off the platter, and the W&F can be impacted. For what it's worth, when I've measured I've gotten anywhere from .05 to .08 on the PLX-CRSS12. These tests depend on so many factors and honestly you can measure 20 times and get different results. Lastly, the firmware of the motor has been re-done from the ground up, and speed stability through the entire range of pitch (+-50%) has been improved a great deal.

No it cannot record on the unit, but you can do that within Serato or rekordbox.

The CRSS12 does not contain the Traktor timecode, but you can use a Traktor timecode vinyl, and be able to MIDI map the performance pads and individual modes.
Soooo it looks like it can only run in relative mode? Which means no access to sync lock?

Amazing turntable but why only 4 pads?
It serves a secondary set of pads for when you’re using a battle mixer that has all 8. It can also be expanded to pads 5-8 with one button.

You can play from online sources using any DJ mixer connected to a computer.
So it’s not hid mode device like a Rane 12 for that price it should be
There are several advantages to DVS from a timecode signal that is internally generated from the turntable.
1. USB optional - the connectivity for the USB cable is only for the Pads and some info on the OLED. If you forgot your cable, you can still use the PLX-CRSS12.
2. DVS is not tied to a software version - while the pad layout requires the latest Serato and rekordbox; using DVS is not tied to using the oldest version. You can use the PLX-CRSS12 with legacy Serato versions, and legacy Serato gear.
3. Noise, vibrations, record/needle wear and tear are eliminated. You can lower the input noise gate in DJ software.
4. Sound quality and accuracy of scratching will not have digital warbling.
5. Hot cues will behave as expected when using DVS. - HID devices are used in INT mode, which have slightly different behavior with hot cues.
6. Switching to a second laptop is faster. - Because the control signal can work immediately for any laptop, there is no delay from waiting for the DVS control to pair. The pad control can take a moment, but your timecode signal will work immediately, just like using timecode vinyl.

You can “eliminate the laptop” by using real vinyl records on the PLX-CRSS12. Also, there are several products that don’t require a laptop while DJing, including the CDJ line, XDJ line, and the OPUS-QUAD.
