  • There is something very suspicious going on in Teyvat. If it was created by the Primordial One, why does it look exactly like the world the dragons ruled over? Perhaps...it's because it isn't real...
    Step with me through the looking glass, travelers. Let us unravel the truth.

    Not so fun fact: I rewrote this entire script, from top to bottom, EIGHT times over the course of a few months. I am still not entirely pleased with it, there is just so much to go over that doing so in a cohesive manner is no easy task. Hopefully splitting it into two parts makes it more digestible.
    Anyway~, I hope you enjoyed. What are your thoughts?

    I thought they missed a big opportunity when you first meet Focalors to pull the old gag from the end of Wonderland; "rule 10,048: no flying on the first 3 days of the month". "You just made that rule up!". "I did not! It's the oldest rule in the book!" "Well then it ought to be rule number one."

      I would have loved that so much! I absolutely believe the writers have referenced Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass in at least some way, if it's an important reference maybe they thought it was too on the nose? Still, with the amount of references we have they could have slipped that one in and no one would have thought too deeply about it haha.

    Wait, so the abyss twin is real because they are awake, while the traveller is a dream person? You know how the traveller slept for 500 years? This could mean they never woke up!
    Honestly, I'm down to believe this. Sumeru is so important lore wise and is so tied to dreams. Looking forward to part 2!

  • @alexanderericson8628
    @alexanderericson8628 Před 10 měsíci +49

    The question that will be interesting going forward is if there is a way to make a dream turn into reality. The traveller will then most likely be faced before a decision to turn the world into ash as the "truth of this world" or let the people of Theyvat keep dreaming. The more we explore the more attached we become to the "living" beings inside it. They clearly are intelligent and have feelings, so the question if they are "real" or not may not matter as much to us in the end.

    • @BluesLoreCrumbs
      @BluesLoreCrumbs  Před 10 měsíci +6

      Great point! This could even lead to friction between the twins. We have seen the abyss twin gamble the life of the Khaenri'ahns over a very small chance of breaking the curse. They believed they were better off dead than cursed. So if everything is a dream, they may not hold Teyvat in a lot of regard. But like you said, the traveler seems to have a different prespective. Also, their character page claims they will "ascend", does that mean they will be given power over the dream? If so, I wonder what they will do with it. If they will deem that kind of existence "worth it".

    I don't know if I believe this but it can explain something. During the Sumeru story line you learn that people not from Teyvat are not recorded in Irminsul and that these people are known as "Descenders" by the Fatui. We also learn that not only is the Abyss Twin not considered a "Descender" but is also recorded in Irminsul. It could be that the Abyss Twin is not actually our twin but a recreation of them cause we expect them to exist in Teyvat. This would explain why the popped up out of nowhere in Khaenri'ah one day and started being recorded by Irminsul. Basically what I am saying is that if Teyvat is a dream that could explain why the Abyss Twin is considered part of Teyvat as they may just be a dream recreation based on the Traveler expecting to see them there and the "Descenders" are people who enter the dream from the outside.
    I do have to go through a lot of the side content still and missed a lot of events so this may be all wrong but I am working with the info I have for now.

    Sure. I see your premise perfectly. The whole thing follows several fairytales perhaps including Alice. There is also the The Steadfast Tin Soldier. Which is Scaramouche’s story. So maybe it’s more than one dream, but a dream within a dream. So if dreaming inside of a dream, does that mean Scaramouche was awake? Alice in Wonderland is one of the most strange of the great fairytales out there! I do see where you are going with the dream versus real life.

    • @BluesLoreCrumbs
      @BluesLoreCrumbs  Před 10 měsíci +4

      Scaramouche is an interesting one to be sure! I actually talk about him in part 2, so I'm afraid I can't say much without spoiling that video. Let's just say that he essentially deleted his files from the dream. But yes, I suppose that, according to dream logic, to dream inside of a dream is to wake up, hence Dain's line about Khaenri'ah in the travail trailer. Thank you so much for watching!

    I think the Veluriyam Mirage as well as Mary-Ann and her fairytales in the Narzissenkreuz Adventure quests play into this theory very well! Mary-Ann's words also tie into the flower analogies (to the point that I wonder if she's meant to symbolize the primordial one):
    Mary-Ann: This is a flower garden that we've painstakingly taken care of. Lovely, isn't it?
    Mary-Ann: I've heard Basil say that caring for children is like caring for a flower. You need good soil, sufficient sunlight, frequent watering, and you can't let them grow however they want.
    Paimon: Hehe, sounds like this Basil is pretty smart!
    Mary-Ann: In fact, we must get rid of pests from time to time as well.
    Paimon: Uh, actually, Basil sounds pretty dangerous too.
    Mary-Ann: Ah, she is very capable indeed. Making snacks, caring for flowers, she can do it all. It would be nice if I could introduce her to you.
    Mary-Ann: I have been caring for the flowers here all this time, in the hopes that some friends might come, and I might show them how they have bloomed. And well, here you are!
    Paimon: Well... It's a shame that they aren't in bloom right now, though.

      I know how frustrating a trope this can be! However, in this case it would not invalidate anything that has happened or will happen within the game. It's real, it's tangible, it's just that it exists within the Primordial One's mind. For the twins to enter the dream would be no different than entering any other real planet. I'll explore this further in part 2, but if this turns out to be even partially true, I, for one would, not find it to be a dissapointing plot twist, though it all rests on the execution.

    René's World Formula confirms what we're told by the Wenut description and Aberaku's heresy, namely that the cyclic period of Teyvat history is over, presumably the result of the 2nd descender ("external" in René's terminology). Hence no more rise and fall of civilization but just one more fall. If Teyvat is a dream it doesn't seem to make much difference as a practical matter, although it might explain the Twins powers being sealed before and not after meeting the Unknown God. What matters is how the fate engine of Teyvat can be altered both in minor ways and major ways. If the Fatui are aware of this, do they really think collecting all seven trinkets adds up to one descender? And where is the third? If each external necessarily alters the World Formula (prophecy without astrology) then should we conclude that the Cataclysm was the third such event? Did the 3rd throne cause the Cataclysm in other words? (no, not the Sibling).

    If this theory turns out to be true (wich is highly likely surprisingly) than I hope that Teyvat is still "real" if you get what I mean, like still tangable, I don't want a cop out but rather it to be an explaination, like dreams shaping reality sort of thing but in a pocket space (bubble universe ect.)
    This could actually be an explaination for why the log in screen desplays a real time sky unlike the game itself, that by loging into the game you are sort of "falling asleep."
    Some other things aswell like the leylines being made of memories, people theorize that dreams are just us trying to process information and of course we need memories in order to dream. Actually you could probably argue that Teyvat is one huge "brain" sort of, like how forbidden knowlege can be physical and damage the enviroment aswell, theres alot of imagery in Genshin in regard to tumors, as well as litteral tumors like in Inazuma. Maybe the devine nails make alot more sense now, although arguing that celestia is performing neurosurgery on Teyvat is kind of wild it could be some other kind of surgery or some kind of extreme acupuncture. Although this is heading into some "crack theory" teritory.

    • @crags

      I love the whole brain imagery! Specially because we have so many important trees in all the nations, which resemble neurons. If you wanted to get really wild with the analogy, you could even argue the traveler teleports by navigating neural circuits. Really good point about the sky in the loading screen as well!
      I do think it would still be "real" even if it was a dream. Like how the preprints aren't what you would consider the real world and yet they are still capable of creating and shaping the real thing.

    i thought the travelers were stopped because the abyss twin already lived the story while the traveler was asleep , so when they wanted to live the one sealed away was the abyss twin and not the traveler , the traveler was put into the world of teyvat and the abyss twin was prob taken back to ...khaenriah? thats why in the animation of lumine running through caos abd arriving to a destroyed city might be after she was sealed....or was it before?

    • @BluesLoreCrumbs
      @BluesLoreCrumbs  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I have a lot of thoughts about one twin having finished their journey already, which ties into the whole samsara aspect of the theory so I'll talk about it in part 2. A lot of people beleive that the twins were sealed in a different manner, but as far as I know, at the momment there is nothing to indicate the abyss twin was just sent back to Khaenri'ah. It also seems a little counter productive. Why send them back and not curse them? As for Lumine's trailer, we see what looks like Celestia in shambles. I always assumed she was on her way to wake Aether up so they could both leave. This is hinted at if you play as Lumine. In the chasm quest, she says she woke up with the inteyvats already in her hair, so Aether would have had to have been in Khaenri'ah prior to waking her.

    Solid theory. I was already operating under the theory that Tehvat was either a simulation or the realm of the dead so this wasn't too far of a leap for me. The confusing part is when memories exist before and outside as well as within the dream. Then there are the dreams within dreams, from which point does one begin exactly. It seems we really are just the witness of the dreams of a dead world.

      Yup, the "it was all a dream" is a trope, a very maddening one, tbh. Lovely video and well-put together! I really like the theory about how it has inspirations from Through the Looking-Glass.
    I have a theory of how the chess board from A Winter Night's Lazzo represents the "players" in the "game", as in characters of Teyvat, as it shows Anemo & Geo Gnosis which may represent Barbatos & Morax, Knight representing Beelzebul who slayed Signora, etc. There were four white pawns in the board (you can look the board up) and I theorized one of them would be the Traveler--one reasoning being like pawns, the Traveler continued to move forward and advance to the last rank/row. On the last row, a pawn could be promoted to any other pieces other than the king, and often queen was the choice for players, as it is the most powerful chess piece. I theorize this was in-line with how the Traveler "collected" powers from resonating with statues and at the end would be able to master all seven elements, thus making them the strongest.
    (Also, considering there are 8 ranks in the chess board and the Traveler woke up in Mondstadt--pawns start on the second row, and there are 6 rows/nations to go; the Traveler/Twins before the start of the game witnessed Khaenri'ah destruction/even were alluded to have been from there, so that's one nation/square... All in all there were a total of 8 like chess squares!)
    Sorry for inserting my theory, but when I saw your video I felt mine would tie very, very, very nicely with Alice's journey in the mirror-world where she traversed through 8 rows of chess board--she also became a queen through pawn promotion.
    I have to admit if it's all a dream I'm going to be incredibly disappointed as it is not my favorite trope, and I think it could almost ruin the whole worldbuilding they already did if the execution isn't careful... though it is indeed a compelling theory. I think I'd like it more if instead of it being completely a dream, it's something more tangible, and not mere imagination, if it makes any sense... like the Sabzeruz festival, or the mirages in GAA 2.8, or how (SPOILERS) Ann from the Narzissenkreuz Adventure questline was born from a dream but was released to live for her own by presumably her "creator" Mary-Ann.
    Thank you so much for the video and sorry for the long comment! I'm looking forward to the second part. If you've played Narzissenkreuz Adventure, it's got a lot of direct references to Through the Looking Glass and I hope maybe you can incorporate details from it!
