I think the most logical reason why there's many "older white men" in Thailand is because they're looking for a more fulfilling life style for the money. Many of the reasons you mentioned also apply. Last month, the total amount of my utility bills alone came to about $400 (about 14,500 Baht) living in Ohio, U.S.A. That amount of money could easily be rent for a nice apartment or house anywhere in Thailand. The cost of living here is simply much higher than in southeast Asia. As a born Thai national, I also intend to move back to Thailand and retire earlier than most of my peers. I want to enjoy my later years doing whatever I feel like...freedom is priceless!
And retired men are usually older.
Most logical reason is they like boning younger chicks they could never get at home. No money no honey simple as that.
@@measlymitch778 Yep someone who talks real, they all try fool themselves that the younger girl they have is with them for love, yes it is love, the love of money. But let them dream I guess.
@Christopher Jacobs They like to keep the illusion going guess it all adds to the dream, me I like to keep it real and realise they mainly like my money.
Life is cheap for old white women too, but you dont see them around..
The way your mom has improved physically since day 1 of bootcamp, she could be signing up for mauy thai lessons before Christmas. Hehe. Proud of you guys for the time you give her. Sadly, not too many moms are as lucky as she is, to get the love that you guys treat her with. You guys are doing an awesome job.
Hi Chuck & Paige. I've been a fan for over 2yrs now.
I actually spent 2 weeks in Thailand back in 1/20, right before all the lockdowns. Visited Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai. Got foot massages every day and full body every 3 days.
I would recommend that your mom get a foot massage every day as well. It will improve her circulation and keep her from being sore from her daily steps.
I am thinkin the same thing as I get up in age...retiring in Thailand or at least spend 6months there. I love this new journey you are on with your darling mother!

Love the way your Mum answers your, "Mom do you want ...." questions with a very quick "No". Makes me chuckle because it sounds like me and the big fella when we're out walking. 😉 Yes, agreed ... it's the quality of your OWN later life that should be of concern. No reason to stick around where you may be uncomfortable or unhappy. My philosophy is that what others think of me is their problem, not mine. I live my life now to enjoy myself and treat everyone with respect and walk away from any disrespect from others. Mum Kara's new hairstyle is lovely, suits her and will be so much cooler. Yum and that chicken looks delicious and the Indian food too. Gosh we can't wait for our trip later this year.
Hiya. I would have never thought your mum was 70 years young. She looks amazing. I love how your mum is enjoying the food. For sure. Why does it matter how anyone else chooses to live? If they're happy, good on them. Life is too short to worry about what anyone else thinks. My son is 29, so for me personally, it would be creepy. But each to their own. I have friends who date men younger than their children in the UK.

If I can give an older woman's perspective (I'm 62), it may be hard for your mom to make friends in a town like Pattaya. Men of all ages want to spend time with young Thai women and their buddies, and there probably aren't a lot of older single women. When I consider places I want to live, I think about opportunities to socialize and make friends with people who have similar interests. If your mom is interested in living a healthier lifestyle, how about Chiang Mai? PS I'm moving back to Malaysia soon - can't wait to leave the US!
I agree with you. Chum sees it from a mens point of view. Caucasian women over 50 looked upon different especially by the Thai women.
There are actually many western women in Thailand.
Including Pattaya, Hua Hin, Chiang Mai, Phuket.
-- There certainly are not as visible and the ratio is not 50/50 to western men.
Many friendships exist between men and women.
Air quality in Chiang Mai can be horrendous at times... dare I say it, worse than BKK! Hua Hin is probably [one of] the best options for Chuck's mum. My friend actually owns retirement properties there (not naming the business), but there's a fair number of older western female retirees in Hua Hin, should she be looking for that kind of community.
There's an expat ladies club in Pattaya. I sent info to Chuck a while ago but it should be easy enough to find again from Mr. Google.
I am impressed how Texas Strong this lady is , I mean the change is so different and also nice as you engage the culture . I wish you and this great lady mom a super future . I think in 18 months , the changes from living in Thailand will better her life so much . Be strong and explore lady !!!

Mom's haircut looks great on her. Paige needs to take some front, side, and rear pics to document the hairstyle for getting it again in the future somewhere else. Like others really enjoying this series of vids. Yes, many of the old men are here for the ladies. But also all the other reasons and factors you gave. But they wouldn't stand out so much if older single women felt more secure in moving to a foreign country alone. That would shift the balance a bit.

Really enjoying these videos with Mum, also Mitch and his partner, such a lovely couple, and of course Paige and you, I am sure there are a lot of mums watching thinking why hasn't my son taken me to Thailand to retire.....and as you say i honestly think its a better quality of life in Thailand than say somewhere like the UK ....your Mum seems to be really enjoying it and i love that she has indulged and immersed herself into Thai food.

Hey Chuck, glad to see your mom getting used to her new surroundings and the travel. Also nice to see you showing the Jomtien area as I am thinking of going there in Oct. for a couple of months. I think that area would best suit my wants, quieter than central Pattaya, closeness to beaches and restaurants and shopping. Still not 100% decided as I will be on foot or using baht bus or taxis as I will not be renting anything for transport while there. Anyhow, still enjoying your videos after several years. Hello Neighbor. I'm live in that massive, rectangular box of a condo in the far background of your opening scene: Jomtien beach Condo. This is a great area. I was living in Bangkok but came here in June, 21 to escape covid...of course it was soon just as prevalent here.
This is a great area. Generally quiet but lots of variety nearby. Enjoying your adventure introducing mom to the wonders and oddities of Thailand.

We are really enjoying your series on bringing your Mom to Thailand. Huge challenge and we hope the best for her, you, and Paige. The convenience and cost of Thailand are huge positives for retirees. Also, the comraderie that you mentioned is huge. I think keeping your family together by having Kara there is a big positive.
Is Kara a beach, mountain or Mekhong river person? That will guide her decision making. Then, where were you and Paige thinking of living permanently in Thailand? Seems like Prachuap was resonating in previous videos. Once you select a location that may coincide with Kara's preference, perhaps rent a year long stay place together and give it a go.
I wish I could bring my Mom to Thailand, however she is 88 years old and not able to make the trip. Your Mom is the right age to make this move.

Old white guy here. :-) I moved over here in 2011. When I think about it, my day isn't really much different than what I'd be doing if I were still in Seattle. However, IMO, the weather is better for me in the tropics, the fresh food in my diet is higher, and my cost of living is significantly better here. My pension income is the same if I were here or there, but expenses here are so much more reasonable than they were in Seattle. It's not easy for many people to pare down their possessions to what fits in checked and carry-on airline baggage, but the long term rewards (for me at least) have been awesome.
