Can the stock internal tuner on my FT-991A tune the Ares 9:1 antenna? LETS SEE!!

- In this video I test the Yaesu FT-991A with the Ares 9:1 EFRW antenna to see if the internal tuner can tune all the bands 160m-6m. Now I know this antenna won't be real efficient on 160 and 80 but you may still be able to make some contacts. Go ahead and try it doesn't hurt. In the second part of the video I add wire to the 41 to take it to 71', be sure to watch to see what that does!

This is why I love a 9:1 with 41' of wire for portable ops. I can get on whichever band is open without assembling/adding/removing/changing the antenna and adapt as conditions change. Great video.

My OM eyes were trying to tune out the blur in some of the scenes but I must need a 10:1 manual eye tuner!😂
Just curious if you are supposed to tune on 40w to 100w, I was told to tune on 5w during my Foundation course.🤷♂️

I have had really good results with a 61 foot wire with a 17 foot counter on a 9:1. Might be worth a shot to try it.

nice test. I made my own 9:1 UNUN but bigger red toroid . with Icom 7300 internal tuner I tuned some bands wit the 3:1 tuner just fine and went to E tune mode that 7300 does have and tuned all bands 160 threw 6 . that with the 41 ft shorter wire. 40 worked fair . I can hear 160 but no contacts . I used 17 ft counter poise . I think I had same trouble at 30 meters . but E tune worked. I only FT8 30 some times. my DX commander does not have 30 meters either . never cut wire. just don't hardy use . I do use 12 and 17 meters a lot more. so I cut wire for them bands. maybe your 9:1 will work better with the green core ?? give it a try. compare the 2. the 4:1 with green core was better. APE has a bunch of them green cores in different size . I like the bigger fat green core that Ape has. may do QRO ?? that one used for EMI/RFI filters. I wish I had one to try. 73's
It would be nice if you would not make illegal transmissions. 30 is CW and digital ONLY. Tune in CW mode and use AM only according to the band plan. No phone transmissions in CW portion of the band.
Be careful talking on 30m, that is for CW only
