- Legendary band from the 70's play live in a club a song from the album "You" called "Master Builder".
This was the first gig of their come-back,with members from the original line up:David Allen,Gilly Smith,Didier Malherbe,Mike Howlett...Pothead pixies never die!!!
Enjoy the Old Folks Trip! - Hudba
ive never heard a more trippier band then gong.
Listening to them stoned puts the beatles, floyd, the dead, zepplin, airplane and all others to shame.
RIP GILLY n DAEVID...... never forgotten.......
Gilly could still hit the highs back then...... awesome!!! And Didier...... along with Elton Dean, the best two reed blowers in the business!!!!!!
old hippies never die ,they just get old
I saw Gong many times over the years but I will always regret missing this line up, I've never seen them with Gilly! To all those calling darling Daevid Allen a Pot Head Pixie, he wasn't. Loads of times after gigs he would sit with us, happy to chat and doodle away whilst we all got mellow. If he was ever offered a smoke he would say, 'it's great for listening but not for performing'.
I want to adopt Daevid Allen and Gilli Smyth as my honorary grandparents.
Absolutely out off this world 🌎
the classic hippie rock band, totally unique and unrepeatable. God bless 'em for sticking to their guns.
Dedicated to all those who think the sixties never actually happened. Actually they never stopped happening, you just changed the channel.
wordofgord
Wow! From the 70's!!! wow! long time ago! and this guys are amazing!
they're came from another planet, that's for sure, now they've must been returned to his planet, they left a inspiration for us =)
Saw them live in 2002 at the Lemon Tree in Aberdeen & they were still bloody amazing!!!! Pretty damn good considering they were all nearly their 70's at that time!!
😮
I "ve seen this band in the late seventees in Vlissingen the Netherlands and this gig still lingers in my memory.
It's been one off the best live performeses I had ever seen in that town and this band had a very skilled sound crew, it stood as a house.
daevid allen. massively underated
Great Progresive/Psychedelic Rock Band, one of the first band that signed with Sir Richard Brandson on Virgin Records.
Weird, trippy, and absolutely awesome.
I was at this gig, it was in Subterrania in Ladbroke Grove.
What a special night it was too ;)
I saw them play around `77 in a half full Hammersmith Odeon. They were superb.
great stuff! totally unique. I was lucky enough to see Gong in London (1988) - wicked!
Mooie mix
I was there - what a night...
The years do not pass for deavid it he has the same spirit of them 70's brilliant(genial)!! ItHe, continues this way
Master Builer, pedazo de tema, David Allen es un verdadero genio!!!
awesome, really awesome :)
Good to see Professor Sharpstrings up there onstage with them, tearing up that electric guitar. Rock it, Steffi!
Clapping hands for that comment!
this is about as out there as you can get :D
love it ....can hear "the glorious om riff" by steve hillage through it ...superb stuff
Je decouvre GONG à l'instant même! Superbe! Je veux un thé, tout de suite...
Wow! Five Stars.
oh my gawd... i am old, & they were old when i was young .... 100 year old hippies! ..... fair play to them!
ahahah mitici ficchettoni
God Bless 'em! The darlings of the Canterbury scene, and one of the founding members of the 'oft so machine!
Thanks for posting!
Pierre was only in his early 20s when he brought this classic to a frenzy with his immaculate drumming. No one else has managed it! Good comment! ;)
This video makes me feel so young. I'm NOT young, but ooh..........
Wonderful
Gong live performances were epic.
Giganteschi ❤❤
too true love listen to them on mushrooms
Much love and respect for the immortal eternal Gong!!
What a performance! Bravo!
i just seen these at glasto, had never heard of them b4 but they were so incredible, mesmerising, entrancing, and they looked about 100 years old, the crowd were totally in the moment!!
Awesome
Oh so good
All thats missing is Steve, Mirielle, and Tim. Their absence really shows.
I was there. :-)
This is available on dvd........complete with a person dressed as an elephant in the audience.
Been into Gong since '71.
LIKE GONG............BIG FÃ........ LIKE DAEVID ALLEN....... FOREVER
BIG FÃ DAEVID ALLEN and GONG
Superb ! Thanks for posting !
Its only bands like GONG and EARTH CULTURE that restored my faith in real music!
Remember this is live. The sound quality can't capture the suggestive feeling that they are building. "Master builder" is a fabulous piece in the studio version. (Not to mention the other tracks...)
Nicely Done !
What an awesome jam !
god rest him (Daevid) the true POT HEAD PIXIE
He does this glissando guitar thing....brilliant.
One day I will have my own flying tea pot
hola desde las islas canarias,vi a gong hace muchos años, aun recuerdo el excepcional concierto, para mi junto a otro grupo extraordinario soft machine y frank zappa tres de los mas grandes grupos de rock que ha habido.un placer para los sentidos.
never did much for me in the 70s.
i guess i hear differently now.
Awesome.
Planet Gong in 70s at Marquee Club great
great bands!
they're going to tour the states this summer!
Yeah! Hot Stuff!
This is some pretty complex music. I am amazed that they can still play it and sound so tight after all of the years and all of the substances that they must have consumed.
@Fraser4317 only in your mind am sixty and still love this!
Freaky stuff man!
Totally entrancing!
Planet ......Goooooooong
...eeezzzaaahoooommmaaaeeeezzaaahooommmaaa. [repeat]
oh well, exactly because its 2010, and this music was written and performed 40 years ago, is the reason why you cant really diss GONG over any of the new stuff....as nothing is as original or creative. big up daevid allen and the granny for keeping it real!!!!
Gilli Smyth (born June 1, 1933, London, UK) belated happy birthday!
halleleulliah!
i will remember this
Yep, it's a Hohner guitar, and the white one from the latest tour is a Hohner - 3 mini switches, I looked up close - this black one looks like it has the big block "Hohner" logo. Steve's is a real composite GL though. They really do the job.
really great stuff !!!
Nicely Done !
That's a nice jam for sure !
Bang On
We love you ever Daevid
OMG a white George Clinton and the Funkadelics!! Man this is GOOD!! These guys have been around since the '70's...it's true musicians get better with age. Thanks for the post, peace out.
Far Out Maaan!

Thinkin' of Gilli this night.
I nursed Gilli in aged care, She told me we would meet again in next life

The Album was called "Floating Anarchy, live 1977".
One side of the Album was Here & Now (was there & then) and the other side was Gong. It's on the Charly Label, and is still available.

They're coming to the Big Chill festival this year. You gotta love the big chill.
Thats Theo Travis, I didn't realise he was with them in 2000! I saw him a few weeks back playing a pub in Rochester UK, superb!

If you want to know the title of the Gongsong, just read the blurb underneath the vid. It states quite clearly that the tune is called " Master Builder "
