    thank you for your video. My 2021 RAV4 hybrid like you said as a cheap dashboard speakers, and I had a hard time hearing through two my loss of hearing. Same speakers did wonders in my ability to hear the phone conversation with the speaker and of course the music sounds much better with clarity. Thank you. Are used same speaker and Crutchfield

    Great video...Just replaced ours with Infinity speakers, 2021 RAV4 (gas)...from unlocking the door to locking back up, job done was 18 minutes. Once I confirmed the polarity of the wiring was proper, the rest was nothing. The sound is multiple times better for an investment under $100 (Can)...make sure you have the conversion harness...I got mine from Red Wolf, perfect fit.

    An excellent explanation. I look forward to doing it myself. I agree with your comments about Crutchfield. They are a fine company to work with.
    Only one other thing, I did installs and service work in the marine industry and would never even walk onboard with out some sort of protection. "Protect at all costs".

    have a 2024 Rav4 xle. I called Crutchfeild twice and they knew nothing about the polarity issue with the dash speakers on the RAV 4. I see so many post saying there is a problem and there is not that I am reluctant to do the speaker change. I have bought equiptment over the last 25 years from Crutchfeild and they have not always provided the correct information. Even in this install the wiring harness is 3 feet as opposed to the RED WOLF on Amazon which is about 10 inches which would be a much better fit. Where can one go to find the correct information or current wiring diagram?

    • @DoItTogether2022
      @DoItTogether2022  Před 5 měsíci +1

      The wiring harness from Crutchfield isn’t 3 feet, and if you’re hesitant to diy it’s always best to have a professional do it.
      It’s easy enough to check, just use a multimeter. Connect your harness and then connect the meter positive to positive and negative to negative. Turn music on. If meter shows voltage going positive then polarity is correct. If it shows negative polarity is reversed.

      I pretty much went with Crutchfield's recommendation, based on what many were buying. I've replaced speakers in many vehicles, but this was the first time I replaced dash speakers. I wasn't sure how much of a difference they would actually make. Also, I figured if they were not to my liking I could just return them.

    • @DoItTogether2022
      @DoItTogether2022  Před rokem +1

      I wouldn’t think it would be any different with a hybrid. Maybe do a little research on which speakers though. I added kicker door speakers and planning on doing a small subwoofer, which might be an issue on a hybrid (due to the wiring of the subwoofer)?
      But for sure the dash speakers and door speakers should be fine.

    The polarity is reversed on the RAV4 and so you need to flip the positive/negative wires on the harness. Otherwise the speaker will be out of phase.

      @@DoItTogether2022 it will work, but it will be out of phase. If you look at the wiring diagram provided by Crutchfield and then trace the positive/negative wires it is reversed from what it should be (assuming you received the Metra Turbowire harness).

    I went to my local car radio place to check out the polarity. Reverse polarity does not impede music for the most part and my ears couldn't really tell apart the difference. But I think your music will sound better if you don't mix up the positive and negative wires. For my 2019 LE Rav4 gas, the shop found the wiring diagram the denotes positive and negative. * please note this is based on 2019 RAV4 LE gas model. I have no idea if wiring changes from model to model or year to year for the Rav4. There are plenty of car radio places to double check if you're not sure. usually they don't charge very much for this work if you unscrew everything for them to inspect ***
    Driver side front dash 3.5 speakers:
    -Lavender/Black wire is positive +
    -Lavender/Red wire is negative -
    Passenger side front dash 3.5 speakers:
    -Lavender/Light Green is positive+
    -Lavender/Blue is negative -
    The fix for reverse polarity is quite simple. Just criss-cross the 2 wires from the red wolf wiring harness.
    1. Take the RED WOLF wire harness
    2. There should be a Red and Silver wire. Red is positive and Silver is negative.
    3. Use pair of scissors or wire cutter to cut the Red and Silver wire on the wiring harness. (DO NOT CUT THE WIRING COMING OUT OF THE VEHICLE. MUCH EASIER TO CUT THE WIRING HARNESS FROM RED WOLF)
    4. strip back the insulation to reveal metal strands
    5. Connect red wire to silver wire. and vice versa to connect silver wire to red wire. you can twist the wires together from and tape it up using electrical tape. Or you can use wire quick connectors to connect.
    6. Done! you can double check your work by tracing the new 3.5 speaker's positive side to the positive side wire coming from the car. New speakers usually have a larger connector (positive) and a smaller connector (negative).
    * PS. another way you can check if you have reverse polarity (hooking up positive to negative and vice versa) is to take a look at your red wolf wiring harness (the large plastic end). And to take a look at the OEM speaker connection end. They both have a 4 pin connector set up. The red wolf wiring harness has Positive red wires on the end without plastic clip and negative black wires on the end with plastic clip. (The end with plastic clip is the part of the connector that has the little opening that secures the connector. you have to push this end to release the connection.) Now look at the OEM cheap plastic Toyota speakers you've removed, It also has that 4 pin connector identical to red wolf harness. The positive end is most likely the side with capacitor on the plastic clip opening side. If this is the positive side on the OEM, then the red wolf harness has red positive wires on the other end, thus causing reverse polarity. So not exactly plug and play anymore. **
    Let me know if anyone has questions.

      If it’s doing it all the time, that would indicate a problem with your amp or headunit more than likely. If it’s only while playing music maybe a blown/defective speaker?
