    Cute video. She cooperates a bit more than our Pidge.
    May want to add that if you use a leash it needs to be stretchy bungee material so the bird doesn’t actually hurt itself when trying to fly off and getting a hard resistance from the yarn leash. Supposedly it can cause internal injuries .

    • @SophieThePigeon
      @SophieThePigeon Před 4 měsíci

      PERFECT tip about the bungee section! 😄. Me and my humans are currently working on making a flight harness for safe outdoor exercise (not a flyper/diaper like this nice lady made though). And we also HIGHLY recommend to use a 'bungee section' which we call the 'soft brake'.
      We see WAAAAYYYY to many harnesses and FLIGHT suits being sold (commercially) which don't have this. And especially if you have a longer leash (like we have up to 25 or even 50 meter for large fields) the 'abrupt end of the line' could seriously injure the poor bird. However, this could already happen with shorter leashes if you don't have a proper 'soft brake' (of bungee section).
      I have learned very well that once the resistance is gradually increasing, that I'm nearing the end of the line, and that I will have to change my direction a bit when flying in (LARGE) circles 🥰🕊🪶

      @MyPetPigeon1  Před 4 lety +6

      Hi! I didn't make it, I ordered it from Etsy but I do think it was the tail hole that needed to be widened. Mine also has a smaller space between the neck and tail because of her fantail posture so that was probably accommodated for as well. I've seen lots of Pigeons, but never one with a fan tail & feathery feet. Are they real or part of the birds ensembale?
    I've been wanting a small companion friend since my husband died 7 years ago, & during my 65 years, I have had many different kinds: horses; dogs; cats; a hampster; a corn snake & several birds: parakeets; cocktiel; & a starling, the last I rescued after it fell out of it's nest without any feathers. Its was my favorite, he was a chatterbox, & so that was his name. For years he had a doorless cage to eat & do his business, but spent most of his time hanging with me, my cat & my bird dog. We were great pals. One day he died. I have no clue why. Seeing your video, with the bird pants on a pideon gives me a reason to believe that a pideon would be a perfect companion, not only cuz they can wear a nappy when hanging with me, & therefore can go places with me too, but mostly because they can learn & find there way home. This last part is Very important. I live in a small travel trailer & plan to start travelling soon. But b4 I risk endangering an innocent critter I need to make sure that someone like you thinks my plan is safe. I know how much critters can love their human pals & I wouldn't want to put the critter in any danger. So my question is, can a pigeon find his way home to a travel trailer. What I mean is, if were travelling & were in a new campground for only a day, & he goes for a flight, will he be able to return to our campsite or would he get lost?

    • @MyPetPigeon1
      @MyPetPigeon1  Před rokem

      Hi! Short answer is, no, your pigeon won't find its way home to your travel trailer, especially if you keep moving it around. A pet pigeon should not even be let outside to fly around because of all the things that could attack and kill it. They are only safe inside your house/trailer. If you can commit to that, they are great pets and very rewarding to have around! Check out Palomacy website to see if one is for adoption in your area!

      Before you put it on your bird you stick half a ladies panty liner in the poop-collecting part. You change that out every few hours. You also will have to wash the whole "diaper" at some point because it will get poopy here and there. Just hand wash with detergent and line dry.

    • @MyPetPigeon1
      @MyPetPigeon1  Před 2 lety +1

      No poop has ever gotten stuck to her butt. It would have to build up quite a bit i think for that to happen. I don't have her wear it longer than an hour or two. As long as it's made right, the pouch below their butt is far enough away to leave plenty of room for the poop to drop and not touch the feathers.

      Yes, if they get poopy. Before you put it on the pigeon you would put half a panty liner in the bottom pointy part where the poop would land. Change that out every few hours. That saves you from having to wash them each time, for the most part. They will still get poopy once in a while so having an extra set is nice while one is being washed/dried. I would hand wash mine and hang up to drip dry. Use soap with no fragrance.

    I know how to make your pigeon and you a lot happier. You need to make the part in between his legs a lot skinnier it’s pushing his legs apart there’s no need for it to be fat at all you don’t need to cover his belly- just his pooper area.... And then cross the straps in the back so that it is narrower where the wings are and also stays on his little shoulders better without pulling on his wings

      It can be hard to tell if your pigeon is really itchy or just grooming. They groom a lot and it may look like they are scratching themselves with their beak. I want to know how many of these people actually hand raise their pigeons. Like incubate the egg, and keep them fed, keep them warm, watch them go from little pink bald bird babies to big fluffy beautiful bird poofs. All the behavior down falls I see from these birds, I feel like are just a direct result of not having it from the beginning of its lifespan. I feel like you shouldn’t have to keep a bird on a leash if the bird actually sees you as its parental figure from birth. Edit: I have heard of people that can take their birds outside and not have to worry about them flying away, because the bird actively chooses not to leave you. You can train an adult bird this kind of trust yes, but again I feel like that is a big given result of raising it from a chick.

    • @MyPetPigeon1
      @MyPetPigeon1  Před 3 lety +3

      Thanks for your thoughts. My message to the world is "let's not breed pigeons when there's still so many in foster care that need good homes." So raising it from an egg isn't something a rescue person would do, unless that egg was an orphan. I think even breeders let the bird parents raise the chick. I'm sure it's complicated and no easy answers.

      The same can be said about cats and dogs, there are a lot of strays and fosters that need to be adopted to homes. But it is the difference between buying from a shelter and buying from a licensed private breeder. There is a Pigeon Farm in California that sells fancy pigeon breeds starting at 150 dollars a pop. I am not quite in a place to raise a pigeon now, but when I am, I want to call them and discuss the possibility of egg selling and what the cost differences would be. Of course after I make a suitable living place for it in my home for it to live and be comfortable.

    I love that!! I'm thinking of making some pigeon pants for Frankie of Toronto, just as soon as she, or he is a little bigger! Thank you for your videos : )
