  • I had the good luck to be sent on another business trip, but this time to Lancaster, PA...which is very close to Quarryville, PA, where HC Lanterns is located. This proved out to be a great opportunity to meet Aaron King and pick up a massive Stainless Steel fount upgrade for my old Lightning Bug lantern.

So big it reminds me of the poultry house lanterns. Regular lantern burner on a huge fount. The sales slogan was "Hens that lay are hens that pay." Haha!

You should! Easy way to get to one is buy the head and put it on a fount like the one I swapped out. Half the cost is in the fount, so you can get a powerful lantern for not too much outlay.

HC lanterns with the Coleman tanks later than yours came with a label on them that said" HC Lanterns # 500 C Head." It was only in 2017 that HCL introduced the steel tank and it was that model that was named " The Lightning Bug".

Thanks for sharing the history! Always great to learn something new. I think in there somwhere too I misnamed it as the firefly, which is the table lamp. Whoops.
