- October 5 - 19, 2023 • Miami to San Diego
The Disney Magic sails through the Panama Canal for the first time in 15 years! As the Disney Wonder sails down under for the inaugural Australia & New Zealand sailings, the Disney Magic takes over in the Mexican Riviera for Fall 2023. Embark on this adventure out of Miami, and experience this day-by-day montage of Disney’s LONGEST domestic itinerary. This 14 night repositioning sailing through the Panama Canal is one of two 2023 sailings, providing a rare opportunity to experience going through one of the most well known maritime passageways in the world. Total distance traveled was 4980 nautical miles (~5731 miles). I hope you enjoy this recap!
This sailing hosted approximately 2000 guests (215 Kids), out of a max capacity of ~2700 passengers on the Disney Magic. There were also 1007 crew members present aboard this sailing.
There were 5 ports of call on this cruise (excluding the Panama Canal crossing):
Cozumel, Mexico
George Town, Grand Cayman
Cartagena, Colombia
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
For this sailing, the Panama Canal crossing totaled 9.5 hours from entering the Atlantic locks, to exiting the Pacific locks.
All food pictured in this video were included in the base cruise fare (Cabanas Buffet, Animator's Palate, Rapunzel’s Royal Table, Lumiere’s). Our party was in main seating, which started at 5:45pm each night.

Let me know what you think about this trip! Thank you for watching!
Thank you for showing. Scheduled on the EBPC cruise next month.
@@jenniferjacobs5599 hope you have a great cruise!
Love this style. No commentary. No camera in people’s faces!
I am a big fan of your content. It’s straight to the point- recapping of the events of the day, giving perspective to the activities on and off the ship. Very enjoyable to watch! Nice job!! 👍🏻
thank you! I appreciate it!
Your videography is stunning. I watch a LOT of DCL content and yours is among the very best. Well done
Wow, thank you! I hope to continue to be able to make more of this style content in the future!
Awesome video, you’ve inspired me to plan a cruise to Alaska…… btw it’s hilarious when that little girl flips the bird at the camera(11:45)lol I’m glad you left it in.. hilarious 😂…. Amazing job!
Alaska should be on everyone’s bucket list! I’m really glad I helped convince you to plan one. Lol on the Panama video. What can I say, I’m just staying true to the sights & sounds format 🤣. You’re the first to catch that!
@@jjma I’m still laughing about it too! Keep staying true to it…. I mean Alaska is beautiful and you made it official for me, thank you and keep enjoying it.
We were on this cruise and I saw us in the Video ❤thanks for sharing! Highly recommend this one! We had a blast!
Disney needs to offer this sailing again in the future for sure!
Fabulous video. Really well documented. I like that there’s no narration and you’ve shown all the important bits. Really well done.
Thank you so much! I omit narration out for this particular style, because i want the focus to be around the first person perspective of the cruise. I am very much a fan of the vlogs as well, but I thought I'd try to offer up a different perspective!
Thank you soooo much for posting this video. My adorable daughter started to work on the Magic last year and she was on this trip accross the Panama canal. As a mum of one oc the crew member of this amazing ship, this video made me so happy and the same time very emotional, to know that my baby girl was on the same ship, probably working, but just the thought she was there game me some joy... I only see her every 5 months when she comes back to the UK, so to see where she actually spends most of her days made me very very happy... Thank you so much. ❤
Wow, thank you so much! I'm so glad I was able to share the experience with you! The crew on the ship are what truly make the experience an amazing one, so please send my many thanks to your daughter! I hope she is enjoying her contract, and I hope that eventually you yourself will also have the opportunity to embark on the ship! Wishing you a great holiday season!
Finally got a chance to see the video really amazing video..
got a lil glimpse of me .. 😅
Thank you Aaron! I hope to see you around again soon!
I really enjoyed this video! Great job capturing the highlights and feels of the Magic! We were on the EB Panama Canal cruse on the Magic in August/September 2008. I didn't realize that was the last time the Magic travelled through the Canal until now.
Thanks! It's crazy how long it's been since the ship last did that crossing. Hopefully it'll do it again at some point!
Thanks sooooo much for posting. We are going in our first Disney Cruise and it is this itinerary in 15 days !!!!!!!🎉😂😅🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 we are new subscribers to your channel!!
Wow!! A 2 week itinerary as your first DCL sailing! Anything else is going to feel too short moving forward...you have been warned! Apply plenty of sunscreen for Panama day because there will be a lot of standing outside and taking it all in! I may or may not have gotten crazy burned that day 😂 Thank you for subscribing!
Nem sabia que a Disney permitia cachorros em seus navios, isso é incrível eles são mágicos em tudo mesmo
Thanks so much for this wonderful video. I’ll echo the comments above, I love the sights-and-sounds style of it without the narration. Also love that you display everything that you’ve ordered… YUM! I’m a big DCL fan, and I watch a lot of DCL vloggers, but I find your videos to be particularly pleasant and easy to watch. Can’t wait to get on the Magic again in Feb out of New Orleans. Thanks again!
Thank you! It’s nice for me to be able to look back at the food we ordered too (lol). I hope you have an awesome trip in Feb!
Great video as usual! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
Great video. Thanks for sharing with us the trip. Let’s me know what is in store for me in Dec since I’m on the EBPC leaving from San Diego on 12/3 and arriving in Galveston on 12/17
Enjoy the EBPC! It should be fun with the holiday theming!
Amazing!
Thanks, Airplanes. you were featured at 1:26. what a coincidence. 😮
@@jjma noiceeeee i can see it... 😎
Thank you for this great video! I'm looking forward to my EBPC in just a few weeks!
Thank you! Enjoy!! The holiday theme should be so fun!
fun
I'm so glad I found your video. We're booked for this cruise on the Magic for Apr 2026! I'm starting to watch videos. What's the excursion you took in Cartagena? Our cruise won't stop in Grand Cayman. Also, where is the best spot to see the Panama Canal crossing? Thanks 🤗
Spotted ourselves three times in your video. 🙂
Nice!!
The magic >>>
I agree!
Hi, which excursion did you take in Puerto Vallarta? What's the name of the place on top with the merchandise and with the beautiful view of the 2 rocks from the top? Thanks
Sorry, what's the name of the excursion you took in Cabo San Lucas? 😊
Wow, amazing cinematography. This makes me want to go on a cruise. Would you specifically recommend disney?
Thanks! Disney is a great cruise line for families, however for this particular itinerary there are a lot fewer children than that of a typical Disney cruise, (primarily due to length). I would totally recommend Disney as the food and level of service is top-notch!
Great video, love this type of presentation . We’re there not a lot of children on this sailing?
Thanks! if I recall, I believe the figure was around ~200 kids, which I think accounted for about ~10% of the total number of guests aboard. so definitely fewer than other Disney itineraries by comparison
I aspire to have spent as much time on the Magic as you have, haha.
It’s all about the itinerary! The Magic has had some of the more unique routes and I’m all for it!
@@jjma I planned on going on one of her transatlantics many years ago, and I was finally able to figure out when and how to do it next May.
But, as you know, the Magic doesn’t do those anymore. I’m sure the Dream will be just as good (the Magic wins out on nostalgia points though).
@@samjlemke I haven’t sailed the Dream transatlantic. would love to at some point. But yes! The Magic has a lot of nostalgia for sure!!
Great shots! What kind of camera do you use?
Thanks! Just an iPhone. nothing fancy!
Love your video! What's the name of the excursion you took in Cabo San Lucas? Thanks 😊
Hi! Thanks! On Cabo day we just did our own private excursion. The tender boats would shuttle us back and forth to and from land and the ship.
The boat ride that we took was a 45 min trip to and from the Arch. There are several private groups at the dock that will advertise their flyers. the car ride around town was just a private taxi van that showed us around town. I hope this helps!
@@jjma thank you!
Very detailed video. When did you take this cruise? How did the reducing water levels at the canal affect your cruise?
Thank you! This sailing was just last month (October 5-19). The water levels didn't affect our cruise because the cruise line pays for a priority passage slot, and the size & draft of these cruise vessels are generally much smaller than those of the container and tanker ships.
Just to put the canal situation into perspective... In October 2023, the maximum allowable draft for any vessel was 44ft (down from the original 50ft limit). The Disney Magic's draft is around 28 feet in freshwater conditions, meaning that the ship was well within the parameters of being able to cross the canal. Container vessels that don't meet the new limits have resorted to docking in either Colon (Atlantic side) or Panama City (Pacific side) and offloading their freight onto the Railroad which runs parallel to the canal. A second vessel would receive the freight on the opposite side and continue onwards from there. Hope the context helps.
@@jjma Thank you for the detailed and very clear response. Most helpful!
What are you using to attach your GoPro to the side of the ship for those Time Lapse shots?
I used a “goose neck” clamp. Hope that helps!
I noticed at the end there there was a lecture showing Walt in his ambulance outfit. I hope they told the true story and didn’t repeat the lies and myths that have perpetuated for so long.
what's the true story?
I don’t know why you call it domestic since you can’t belong to all nations visited
Hi! There are itineraries that start and end in a different country. This one starts and ends in different ports however they are in the same country. I hope that clarifies things
