this is probably one of the few, maybe the only instance, when Seinfeld had an emotional heartfelt moment.
The whole "Kramer goes to Hollywood" is one huge emotional rollercoaster... Jerry and George go after him because they cared. The end is very touching.

Its easy to add an emotional angle to keep the audience hooked. But Seinfeld was so funny that it nevr needed one

Actually this was the one time it did get into drama territory with Elaine being upset jerry was distancing himself from her via lousy present and card.
These early episodes are almost like a 'real' show, where it's doing character development. What makes later seasons funny is they don't develop at all.

Elaine reading the Yeats quote from Kramer's gift card and her reaction is one of the very few genuinely heartfelt moments on the show.
In the first two or three seasons the characters are not zombies.
Yeah, in the episode where Elaine is trying to see a doctor for her rash, Kramer doesn't even know her last name and she calls him a jackass. It's weird how they lose a lot of the heart they showed in the earlier seasons.

Agreed, they were definitely more rounded characters early on and the show had real heart. Eventually they just became sitcom caricatures. Well-written and well-acted caricatures, but less warmth.

The ending made it seem like they were gonna get together, but next episode they weren't together anymore and it was never mentioned again lol

One more reason the finale was so heinous. Kramer would have tried to help the guy getting mugged; he tried to help everybody. He should have hung out more with his other friends, like Bob Sakamano. These three were toxic, and bad luck for him.

When I rewatched Seinfeld couple weeks ago again, and this scene came up, I was laughing at What are you... my Uncle? But when Kramer looked at Jerry, and said Yeats with that smile, I died laughing.... love this show!

Actually they mostly were. These couple of episode s felt off, because there was too much emotion

If Elaine knows and sees the way Seinfeld treats other people and other women, what else did she expect? Given his personality, that $182 was a nice gift. He's not out there buying thoughtful gifts for other people. Your partner will treat you the way they treat others, if not now then it's a matter of time. I'd only be disappointed if he was the sensitive type and gave me cash, but he's not a thoughtful person in general. Xmas and birthday gifts are for children. Its a waste of time and money for adults. If you want something, just go out and buy it for yourself and save everybody a lot of trouble.
Most of the time you end up with a lot of stuff that just takes up space in your closet for 20 years. Years ago I told my family not to get me anything for Xmas. Occasionally I'm forced to go through that annoying procedure of opening a present - "Gee thanks, something I never wanted."
