This video was recorded by Kasha Rigby in Camp 4, Rohingya Refugee Camp in Bangladesh. Rohingya, or Ruáingga, is a language of the Bengali-Assamese branch of the Eastern Indo-Aryan language family. There are approximately 1.8 million Rohingya speakers, a predominantly Muslim community from Rakhine, Myanmar (Burma). In 2013, the United Nations declared the Rohingya people to be one of the world’s most persecuted minorities, as they are denied Myanma citizenship, as well as the right to public education and civil service employment, among other freedoms. Since 2016, the Myanma military launched a campaign of forced expulsions against Rohingya communities, which the United Nations, ICC, ICJ, and various human rights organizations have described as ethnic cleansing. As a result, over a million Rohingya people now reside as refugees abroad; the majority, like Shahida, are in Bangladesh, where they are denied full legal status. Since 2017, the Bangladeshi and Myanma governments have discussed facilitating the return of Rohingya refugees, but the process has stalled. The Rohingya people's language is related and often compared to Chittagonian, a language of Bangladesh, and the two are mutually intelligible. Despite initially being written in Arabic script, Rohingya now primarily uses the Hanifi Rohingya script, created by Maulana Hanif in 1983. The script was largely based on the Arabic alphabet, in addition to the Latin and Burmese alphabets, and is written from right to left. There are six vowels in the Rohingya language, and accented vowels are used to designate stress. Additionally, Rohingya utilizes 12 verb tenses: present, past, and future, which are each conjugated for the first, second, and third person.

buddhism must not attack islam.
islam must not attack buddhism.
religion peace forever ☸☮🌙
@Calpurnia L The problem is with religion, let's be honest.
islam is the problem
@Calpurnia L These people were innocent, how was it their problem?
This was such a visually rich and fun language sharing, and the circumstances made me feel both gratified and grateful. It was beautiful. The antics and just normal and charming traffic in the background added to the pleasure. The primary traffic director was hilarious, chiding others and then making faces and grabbing himself as he acknowledged someone else.
Many thanks to Shahida and Ms. Rigby.
This week the Myanmar government sued Reuters and are proceeded against a local MP, too, over a report on two Rohingya women being killed by the Myanmar army's artillery fire. We all need to be aware of the longterm Rohingyan humanity crisis, and this serves that purpose, too.
Beautiful language! I am so sad about what has happened to these people! I'm not Muslim, but I'll be praying for them!
Alas we thought when Myanmar became a democracy that the Rohingya would gain better standards of living. Alas, this is not the case.
I am a Bangladeshi Bengali.. I can understand 80% of it
Can somebody put the English subtitle? I wanna know how beautiful this language. Greetings from Indonesia.
Thank you very much for asking. We are trying to get them, but Internet in the refugee camp is spotty at best, so it depends on when Kasha returns. In the meantime, if anyone speaks or understands Rohingya we encourage you to send captions to hello@wikitongues.org!
I feel for this people!!
Calpurnia L You are justifying deportation and genocide of a native group in a multiethnic country such as Burma, and both of those things have been proven to have disastrous consequences too
Piss off troll
Wonderful! Thank you for sharing. This is especially interesting to me. Although I do not know the Rohingya, I think I can hear cognates from several other languages; and they flow smoothly together like a poetry. Thank you again.
"The term "Rohingya" may come from Rakhanga or Roshanga, the words for the state of Arakan. The word Rohingya would then mean "inhabitant of Rohang", which was the early Muslim name for Arakan.[77][78][79]
The usage of the term Rohingya has been historically documented prior to the British Raj. In 1799, Francis Buchanan wrote an article called "A Comparative Vocabulary of Some of the Languages Spoken in the Burma Empire", which was found and republished by Michael Charney in the SOAS Bulletin of Burma Research in 2003.[80][81][82] Among the native groups of Arakan, he wrote are the: "Mohammedans, who have long settled in Arakan, and who call themselves Rooinga, or natives of Arakan."[83][80] The Classical Journal of 1811 identified "Rooinga" as one of the languages spoken in the "Burmah Empire". In 1815, Johann Severin Vater listed "Ruinga" as an ethnic group with a distinct language in a compendium of languages published in German.[84]"
- Wikipedia
The last lines say, "Yaad rakhibo duniya, Chokhor paani muchhoyya."
Which means, "The world will remember, while wiping away the tears."
She's talking about the torture and torment the Rohingya people are facing while the world is just watching.
Thanks
As a Bengali speaker, I can Understand 70% of this language .
They are ethnic bengali, Rohingya as British colonial and postcolonial migrants from Chittagong in Bangladesh.
like bengali
kepala kentang not at all, but there are many cognates
I think it is a SAD situation there BUT the language sounds really beautiful and I could listen to her tender voice for hours BUT I had to laugh about the kid in the background at the minute 4:24 who literally stole her show with his gestures and movements, hahahahaha. 🤣
Fine how it sounds.
Masha Allah ❤
Isn't it crazy to think that this language is related to Icelandic?
are you sure? I havent found any sources stating this?
@@nanospeed2550 look up "Indo-European" language family
@@brettfafata3017 oh i see, I thought you meant that Rohingya was directly related to Icelandic, which confused me. Thank you for clearing the confusion!
@0 0 I realise that, I misunderstood the comment and thought it was stating that the two languages were directly connected , like Icelandic and Norwegian for example. But I understand now what the original poster meant
@@nanospeed2550 Yeah, I was trying to make the most surprising possible comparison. You could also say Rohingya is related to English, Greek, French, etc.
JUSTICE FOR ROHINGYA ❤
Good 👍 Good 👍 Good ARSA 🤝🤝 GOOD 👍 Good 👍
has the flow of an almost tonal tibeto-burman language
Good very good news story spking
May Allah bless these beautiful rohingya people ❤
The caption and translate link does not work, by the way! It needs to be fixed.
Great speech

Nice sister
I speak Bangla, which is supposedly "closely" related to this language, but barely understood 5% (a few words here and there).
I am Bengali too..from Comilla.. I understand 80% of it
@@azwadahsan8549 technically Chittagonian dialect is difficult for indian Bengalis. It is a seperate language on its own. Rohingya is considered a seperate language and so is Chittagonian.
When you say Comilla, I am assuming you speak Chittagonian which is not that far from Chittagong
@@islandsunset actually Chittagongian is very hard to understand even for the other regions of Bangladesh. Not just the indian Bangalis. The Chittagong division and Sylhet division both have very different dialects from the other regions of Bangladesh. But in my experience, Chittagong has the most different and complex dialect of Bangla. It is safe to say it is totally a separate language.
@@azwadahsan8549 that's because dialect/language of Comilla and Chittagong are pretty close. And the Rohingya language is very similar with the Chittagong dialect.
@@fahimfaysal1925 but both Sylheti and Chittagonian speakers identify as "Bengalis"?
0:49 What a sight to see
cruel kid!
Shit was hilarious! 🤣
@@fahimfaysal1925 Why is he doing that? The guy seems a bully
@@cipher3966 he was making sure the kid doesn’t distract her or make the background awkward. But he did it himself by hitting the kid.
Hi
you are mother language name?
Duniya is world in urdu too
It's the Arabic word for world. In Sanskrit, it would be "pritvi".
O yes ur right
Yes urdu borrowed some words from arabic
Is Rohingya more similar to Chittagonian, Sylheti, Bengali, Assamese or Bishnupriya Manipuri?
I can understand few words similar to Bengali, but overall I can’t make out what she is saying. And there are lot many Arabic words not used in Bengali.
Note:- I am Indian Bengali
Well it’s right next door to Chittagong, so it’s closest to Chittagonian
I'm Bangladeshi Bengali and I couldn't understand more than 5% of what she said.
@@DipanjanPaul i am a Bengali living in Chittagong. I understood 80% of what Rohingya language things this girl in the video was saying. So yes, I'll say Rohingya language is closely related to the Chittagongian dialect of bengali language
@@NeptuneOfTheSeas but I could understand the whole thing. You just need more exposure to chittagonian language/dialect whatever you say.
I hate the place it’s filmed, I love the language, also love it that’s is very distant related to English.
Why does that matter that it's related to english
Why is there a guy in a pink shirt watching over the whole thing? Is he a bully? He keeps smacking the kids while he and others mess around in front of the camera
Bad news girl my foot
The boys at the back are cringe
She is of enemy
Mage
This is basically a Bengali dialect
Didn't they originate in Bengal and immigrate to what is now Myanmar over the centuries?
Xombiticus That is correct
Sarah Sabatti not mutually intelligible but Rohingya to Bengali is like Jamaican English patois to British English. If you hear those two you would notice it is not mutually intelligible
Was waiting for someone to point this out.
They are very different languages actually. They are just closely related.
Comparing Rohingya with Bengali and Assamese (considered as different languages).
"I went to the shop with the tailor."
Rohingya: Ãi/Mui holiballoi duan ot giyí.
Bengali: Ami dorjir shathe dökane giechi.
Assamese: Moi dorzir logot dükanot goisü.
Related words -
"work, water, dog, evening, bridge, mad, snake"
Rohingya: ham, fani, kuũr, ázuinna, õõ, fool, áf
Bengali: kam (kaj), pani (jol), kukur, shãj (shöndha), shãkõ, pagol, shap
Assamese: kam, pani, kukur, xãz (godhuli), xãkü, pagol, xap
Is this English? I didn't get a word.
No??? Its rohingya
@@gayvideos3808 thanks.
The only phrase i know in Rohingya is ALLAHU AKBAR.
It's basically urdu in a mother place
