I've been many times. The last time I was there was August last year. Like some others, I think it was better "back in the day", but I do like the Japanese inspired area, and my personal favourite of the New Zealand garden is still there, thankfully!

It's a shadow of what it was when we used to visit on holiday in the 2000's. I don't think I've been since I moved to the Island 9 years ago.

Just found your other channel and subscribed - take care not to get a caffeine overload. My only visit to the Botanic Gardens was in Sempember 1970, even though I have lived on the island twice since. I recall it as a pleasant but amateurish attraction, open but with little information. I can understand why it has changed, now it is a commercial operation, and would certainly visit again, regardless of the entrance fee, but it does remind me of an old radio programme, "I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again" wherein John Cleese, as a coach tour courier said something like " ... on your left is Austria .. number 10, you were not looking so you will do the entire tour again" ... sounds of crying in the background.

The last time I went to the Botanic Gardens was many years ago , when I took a group of school children there as a Wight Bus driver. 😊
I didn't explore it much , so this video is showing me what I missed , due to returning to my bus for a snooze 😴

Not as well kept as they ued to be. Thanks for the update. I used to live in Ventnor and the landslip in Leeson Road was called The Devils Chimney. We had great fun going down but hard work coming up. Such a pity it's moved.

We live in Cowes, and go to the garden in the summer. Bringing a picnic. My real favourite place is Ventnor Park though.

Hello Steve, I really enjoyed the video. Tresco Abbey is Warmer in the winter, than Ventnor botanic garden. In the summer I think it's probably the other way around.

Used to visit the gardens every year, but not since having to pay. They are not as well organised these days.I couldn't tell if it was a sun dial you passed. If so I'm not sure if it's the original one dedicated to Doctor Williamson from Ventnor. He was a good friend and mentor to my dad in his youth. If so it's been moved, if not I wonder what happened to it.

Last time I was there, I took my little dog. I asked where the bins were to put the poo bags, but was told they didn't have any. Hopefully, that has changed. Not much fun having to walk around with dog poo - especially when I'd had to pay to get in. I was really disappointed at how the place has changed. It takes itself far too seriously. It wasn't a friendly place. It used to be lovely when it was free, and it was far more beautiful.

Saw this guy in a white coat walk across the lawn. He then disappeared amongst the trees. Place used to be a hospital...😮

The Gardens use to belong to the old Royal National Hospital. The grounds should be free to enter.

Yes I remember the hospital being there - and was always intrigued to see the man at the entrance in his little ‘hut’ . I did know his name back in the day but sadly I’ve forgotten it now!

Utube removed my original comment regarding the selfish dog walkers , not binning their dog poo bags .❗
I've reworded my grievance , which says basically the same thing .🧐

Not impressed. You missed pretty much all the palm trees and didn't show a single image of the insane Washingtonia stand, which is the most impressive collection of Washingtonia palms in the UK and above at least 45N latitude in the world. If there is one thing you go to VBG for, it is the Washingtonia stand. Many are 30 foot plus now and flowering. Sorry but it is criminal to entirely overlook that aspect. It's like going to visit the Louvre and not seeing or showing the Mona Lisa.
The big Phoenix Canariensis and Brahea Edulis as well are simply a must see, but not shown at all really. You cannot be leaving that off as you are then not doing the gardens justice. In fact you missed the entire arid beds and all the desert exotics as well near the Washingtonia. Literally some of the main focal points of the gardens. Look I am sorry for the criticism but i have to say it. You have missed the highlights and filmed the mundane parts. If you knew about the Washingtonia but chose to ignore it, that is even worse.

I'll go shoot another video soon : ) Being local I've recorded millions of hours in the Botanics but that was back in the 90s so not something to upload here! Thanks for the feedback

I realize that you are editing on your phone, so you cannot see the pixel density easily, but much of the path in this video looks as if you are shielding it from pavement molesters.

@@CornishvandwellerDo you know those news videos where they fuzz out the faces of children and innocent bystanders in a new story? The pavement looks like that.
