Great stuff! i remember these in the early 70's when they were being used as bus recovery trucks at the local bus depot, thats another one saved, thanks for posting ;)
The last time I saw anything like this, it was on display in a park in Port Hedland, Western Australia. It was a Leyland, but had a similar bull nose to this one. It had a hard life, as it was one of the early examples of a mine dump truck. Today they're dwarfed by 200 tonne plus CAT 793 dump trucks
Just listen to this baby Purr.... That alone should be a very good incentive for someone to bring this old girl back to her former glory.... Please !!! Don't let her rot away to nothing, she sounds too good. :-)
Oh, I love these! You must restore it, or give it to a museum, it can't be allowed to just rot away! Or, as the museum I used to volunteer at would say, if you can't restore it then at least preserve it so it can still be restored later.
sounds like that old antique beast runs pretty good for having been setting forever I've got an old international harvester truck that is like this it set for over 30 years and still ran with a minimum of fuss ,,cleaning fuel injectors/lines put a bunch of penetrating oil in the cylinders and letting it set for 2 days,,not sure what the original IH engine was but it has an 8V71 Detroit turbo diesel as of the time I got it , runs as good as this one does
call the savage squad (TV serial), and let them have a look at the truck... maybe they are going to help! You never know! By the way: great job, pal! Nice british truck, they also made a two stroke diesel, but that's another story!
chugga chugga chugga chugga chugga chugga... and it'll keep doing it all day and all night without a rest :-) Spruce it up, lotta work but it'll look magnificent back in working condition.
Doncarlo5....the two stroke was put in a commer as well, they decoded themselves as you were driving along, had to stop at night as was like a firework show, best wait till daylight.
ile give you £800 and £20 for the scrap on the back ,little gold mine there mate ,unrestored with the right collector ,i just love the brambles ,battery n a bit of diesel.made to last
This lorry is a 1958 ex-Pickfords Scammell Junior Constructor, there's not many left of these now, and there weren't many to begin with anyway, How is the resto going?
@hameeds01 batteries in water in can of diesel sitting on bonnet bleed the system then it started fist go. so it is possible for a diesel to start first attempt. the video is real.
Did you take your own fuel and was, as it seems, it more or less first time start? Gotta say something fir the original build? I know they were used and worked on just 3 miles from where I lived.
@TheJmsmurphy187 sorry man she's not american it's an english built lorry. look up scammell on the net you'll find out all about them. do you think it's american because it's a bull nose?
@tescoireland1234 yea thats why i thought it was american :/ oops my mistake...but if u were to put some flames on the front like them american trucks it would look savage
Great stuff! i remember these in the early 70's when they were being used as bus recovery trucks at the local bus depot, thats another one saved, thanks for posting ;)
I bet there is many boat owners thinking how good it would be to marianise this beautiful engine. Thanks for saving it.
She's beautiful and she wants to live and work again.
she will next year when she is home again
If only the old machines could talk to tell us the places and work they've done in the past.
Tip of the hat guys!!! Great job...hope to see some future vids of this beast...
It needs to be painted Matt Black, and used in another Mad Max film. What a great sound from an engine which was built by British Workers with pride.

Likely a fairground vehicle, generator for driving power on some ride. Drove one in the 70s/80s with Rolls Royce engine
chugga chugga chugga chugga chugga chugga... and it'll keep doing it all day and all night without a rest :-)

ile give you £800 and £20 for the scrap on the back ,little gold mine there mate ,unrestored with the right collector ,i just love the brambles ,battery n a bit of diesel.made to last
The old unbrakeable leyland 600 engine, many of these in buses in western australia
because i can if i want to.
@hameeds01 front passenger tyre is flat. was last used in the late 80's on a funfair. parked in the back of a yard and the hedge is growing over it.
Purrrs like a kitten.
This looks like it has been a circus or fairground lorry as it has a set on the back its a shame it could be a lovely bit of kit!
Good one!
Why are you always "stabbing" the throttle when it idles just fine?
Yea, don't go red lining this engine from cold, just let it warm gently on a fast tickover
und er läuft und läuft und läuft :-) Schön
@zman4ish it's an old catapiller generator
@tescoireland1234 A coach built cab is gonna be a tough love restoration . I wish you luck.
with the gear stick in that position between 1st and reverse the oil pump in the gear box doesn't run...any other neutral is ok though...
Szkoda że stare motory nie miały tak niezawodnego silnika ;P
This lorry is a 1958 ex-Pickfords Scammell Junior Constructor, there's not many left of these now, and there weren't many to begin with anyway, How is the resto going?
Fleet No- M2075, so glad this one's survived, best of luck with the resto!
@vincentkhoful Yea when it gets restored.
