How shallow is the water when that wave breaks?

Usually around 3 to 4 feet but at times even shallower. Very dangerous wave. That’s why pipe carry’s the name of being deadly. I surfed there 1 time on a good swell and it was to much for me. Lots of jockeying for position and having to out paddle others and deal with a raging ocean.

There is No guard tower at Pipe the closest ones are at Rockpiles and Ehukai its always the crew that gets to people first.

Actually..they Saw it happen..initiated EMS response within about 5 seconds of the wipeout..and then b-lined it to the location of the event...they provided great c-spine injury protection and kept the airway open...after just a couple "breaths" from the BVM..he came back to......The tower is a couple hundred meters down the beach because that is where most Conscious rescues occur because of the current...thankfully yes..the surfers in the lineup, usually the body boarders on the inside, are always the first to get to the victim.Good job Tamayo, Josh, Luke, his, Kevin and all..

what a f@#king dropkick you must be to make a comment like that ... ffs ... absolutely clueless ...
The Hawaiian lifeguards you are talking about are some of the bravest, most knowledgeable, skilful and respected human beings working in and around the ocean, and may very well have saved Chumbinho's life. They have already saved the lives of countless others and will continue to save countless more, even possibly yours one day - though I expect you'd be too scared to even put a toe in the ocean - judging by your ignorant and disrespectful comments of what happens on a beach.
I just don't understand why morons with obviously no knowledge or experience in something feel they have to make "expert comments" (typically negative) or debate a topic .... entitled, immature trolls with nothing better to do I guess..

Mahalo for the update there is very little info out there. One of the Volcom guys said hes in stable condition. Most people dont have any idea what goes on in these situations. Its great to see everyone help out when something like this happens.
