Reviving the BEST DEAD FAITH in CK3

  • Here is how you revive and convert to Hellenism in CK3 very cheaply (for only 250 Piety). This strategy is BRoKEn and leverages Diverging the cultures (kind of like hybrid cultures) in the new Royal Court DLC to be able to easily revive a religion. I had a lot of fun making this one, and if you can improve on the strategy, let me know in the comments below! TheSocialStreamers also did a fun video on this, but that was before the DLC! Glory to Zeus!!

    Ever since I saw that episode of Vikings where Roman artifacts are shown in York I've always wanted to play as Viking restorer of Rome, and now I'm seeing converting to Hellenism is also possible.
    (my plan with Royal Court is to take By the sword cultural tradition, seems hella fun)

      Its should be written as a hellenic polyteist culture then a ism, ism is turning culture into religion, its not a religion it should be in the spiritual categorywihout the fait category,
      So many things are missing and so many things are wrong in the game, but we can add new contents with the modding

    I'm confused. How did the game look at those modifiers and come to the conclusion that the conversion now costs 250? He has a total of -259% for the cost reduction and +600% for the cost increase. If the percentages are additive, then he should have been at +341% cost for a total of 27,783. If they apply in sequence, first reduce 6300 by 14% then reduce that number by 35% and so on, then the cost should be 2028.4882. Either one of those is a hell of a lot more than 250.

    • @garrettw6532
      @garrettw6532 Před 2 lety +330

      So, I did some digging in the code and I think I found your answer. It appears that the game calculates the piety cost for conversion in three phases: first it calculates a base cost from the doctrines of the two religions, then it multiplies certain values to create a faith_conversion_cost_modifier, and finally it applies a character_modifier called "faith_conversion_piety_cost_mult". The first 6 modifiers on the tooltip (everything from Character Learning to Defending in a Holy War) are part of the calculation for faith_conversion_cost_mult, whereas Apostate, Malleable Invaders, Religion Blending, and Stonehenge all contribute to the character_modifier. There's no mention of any of these character modifiers in the code for faith_conversion_cost_mult, so I think they're not part of that calculation at all, and just get applied afterward as a totally separate cost reduction. If I'm right, that means if you have Apostate plus 2 other character_modifier reductions, you will always be able to convert religion for the minimum cost of 250 piety.

    getting the first tier pillage trait for 100% bonus prestige from battles and then going after countries that are similar in size to your military to get them to want to defend seems to be the best way to get presitge early, i got to around 6k troops and started raiding france, soon as they pop their army out to attack i clear it then continue to follow and kill it over and over again till it disappears, usually resulting in 3-5k prestige, risk is if they manage to beat ur army but as long as u got the counter to men at arms for them and better knights its usually a cakewalk.
    That or going to countries that are in a war, raid them and attack them and the attacking armies over and over for extra prestige, you also get extra prestige for killing in alliance wars, so handy to have several alliances for easy prestige battles.

      This +1000. The pillage branch is absolutely broken, and you can get 3000+ prestige/fame for a single fight by the late game. When your 10-year-old son takes over and has no fame, he'll be a living legend in just a few years if you can find a couple of decent sized wars you can win. Add to that you can be getting hundreds of gold per victory from the 4th perk on that branch, and you are set for the whole game.

    this video was very helpful. I like to play Byzantines and wanted to bring back Hellenism but sacrificing hundreds of people felt like a BS way to do it so I took some cues from this and started tweaking my culture. I didn't get all of the discounts you did but I didn't need them. One cultural tradition, cynical and a very high level learning ruler let me get to Hellenism with a few steps. First I made a christian faith that was basically Hellenism but Christian as a hypothetical stepping stone but the price was still too high because it was an organized religion so I converted to Asatru, now I did end up sacrificing my prisoners but that was just as much about clearing out my prison as it was the piety and my guy already had plenty banked from his long life. So from Asatru I was able to bring back Hellenism with all the other discounters factored in and had a pretty substantial amount of piety left over, enough to reform the faith and then some.

    My current game is a hellenist run, starting in Fika (for the Fika achievement - the hellenism was just for fun). I managed to convert just using the apostate perk Apostate and grinding about 5k piety (started as a 0-year-old custom character). I think any pluralistic unreformed religion should be able to do this - it is probably only impossible if you are reformed since that would raise the cost to a bajillion. On a side note, my 0-year-old ruler ended up living to 97(!), founding an empire (which he named Fika), conquering Constantinople, and reforming Hellenism into a nudist religion (because what is more Greek than naked sports).

    Actually, you could've convert just with apostate plus two of three following (cynical/religion blending/malleable invaders) since these are the modifiers that stack and calculated after all others, so summary they will reduce the cost by 105%, which means that you will GET piety from conversion, but since minimal cost is forcely set to 250 by game, the cost changes to 250 automatically. So, the most important things there are the perk, cultural traditions/cynical trait. And you can be basically the follower of any other faith or religion and the cost will be 250. So it's much less complicated in reality.

    • @demutrudu6106
      @demutrudu6106 Před rokem +1

      The issue is that the percentages are additive. That means you have to stack all those buffs because converting to a dead religion makes it cost 500% more. Thus, you have to add all the possible percentage increases to have a chance of doing it.

    • @crazehsmile
      @crazehsmile Před rokem +2

      @@demutrudu6106 yes but not entirely, he's right in saying that you only need those, because they get applied AFTER everything else.
      The other modifiers (dead religion etc.), are additive and will increase the cost by a lot. After that calculation is done and you get something like 20k cost to convert, then that 20k cost gets reduced by Apostate/Cynical/Malleable Invaders.

    Interestingly, you stumbled across the most efficient way to earn prestige and fame as a viking in this video (at around the 7:50 mark), but didn't follow up on it: if you hunt down the armies of people you raid, you can reliably and repeatedly earn over 1000 prestige per battle.
    The easiest way to do this - assuming you can win the battle - is identify a country at war (that way their army is raised already), raid anywhere in them so their army becomes hostile, and then go looking for their army. Fighting it will usually not completely kill it the first time, so you can follow it as it retreats for another (potentially several more) battles. The amount of prestige earned depends on the size of the battle, so it provides diminishing returns as you kill their men, but is still worth chasing if the initial army is large enough.
    You don't earn as much money this way, but to get to living legend from 0 fame, you only need roughly 40k prestige. This sounds like a lot, but if you think of it as 40 major battles, it can be accomplished relatively quickly without much difficulty. The fastest I’ve managed was just over two decades, but it’s almost certainly possible to accomplish in 5-10 years with a little luck, and a lot of micro.

    i think you are still limiting yourself with this strategy. The faith conversion cost is obviously necessary and you got that covered, but the amounts of prestige and piety that you generated are very small.
    With a martial based custom character(doesn't need to be custom really) who fights the byzantines, novgorod france, wessex and umayads early on (the big boys of a different religion)you could reach tens of thousands of piety and prestige cutting some of the steps you had to take.
    How do you fight them? Varangian veterans and good knights with buildings that increase your knight count along with your marshal on the task that improves men-at-arms.
    How do you get the prestige for 2500 varangian veterans? You marry for prestige and divorce/marry your wife over and over again.
    So basically you get prestige and troops by marrying and divorcing and then you fight to get piety( can divorce again) and get even more prestige piety
    After all your men-at-arms are ready there's no need for more divorces. You just go to the character finder see who has the highest military strength(in your diplomatic range preferably) and beat the crap outta them with your varangian veterans only for thousands of prestige and piety.
    By the time you are 40 switch to learning(to live longer) and i estimate pretty much anyone( independent of their skill) could reach 20000 piety/prestige (much more if you know the game well) and you don't need that much to convert to helenism with the changes to conversion costs with the royal court update.

    can't you just have your character start with the religion Hellenism in the ruler designer, for free?
    I checked, and you can select Hellenism from the get go.
