Herry Monster is my all-time favourite Jerry Nelson Sesame Street character, in all due respect to The Count. Jerry's singing with the use of different voices was absolutely brilliant. There will never be anyone like him again. RIP with Jim Henson, Richard Hunt and Caroll Spinney.
For those of us that took the time to learn about these insanely talented people that spent their careers hidden just off camera, I think each time a Muppeteer dies we lose more than just one person. We lose all of the friends their voices put so much life into.
If Jerry were to be a great grandpa figure to tell stories, I don't think he would have been able to be the kind of a great grandpa to tell stories for long; he died at *age 78* from emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and prostate cancer.
I knew Jerry well our families were very good friends he gave me a Snuffy plush when I was little and he counted my twin brothers when they were born i will always miss him
This is the only time I’ve actually seen Jerry Nelson do The Count’s voice. The Count was my favorite Muppet that Nelson performed. I also loved Biff, which was pretty much Jerry Nelson talking with a tough New York accent.
Ty Jerry Nelson! To this day, I am not a fan of counting. However when I was a young kid growing up watching Sesame Street, watching The Count and the many sketches made it fun and related to count! Even counting telephone rings and seed made it enjoyable! How can I forget Fat Blue! Sigh! ❤❤❤
How great it would have been to be a fly on the wall to just listen to frank Oz and Jerry Nelson shoot the breeze so casually with their amazing characters they play sounding all at through their normal voices. I feel the amazing talent just from this little snippet. Jim Hensons ear for talent and ability to bring out the best in the people he found is often overlooked, but Kermit the frog is a mere shadow in comparison if that says anything. Thank you for posting this.
There's a clip of outtakes with both Jerry Nelson and Frank Oz from Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas. Jerry as Emmet Otter and Frank Oz filling in for Ma Otter (Marilyn Sokol played Ma Otter in the actual special). It was hilarious!
Nowadays, I love to do impressions of the characters of the muppets from the Muppets and the muppets from Sesame Street, mostly Matt Vogel, Eric Jacobson, Peter Linz, Dave Goelz and David Rudman.
RIP Jerry. You are missed dearly. Thanks for all the memories you gave through your work on Sesame Street.

Sadly his daughter died in the 80s.
I knew him he died when I was 2 but I got to meet him
I believe he had step grandchildren through his second marriage after his daughter passed.
