Came here on a trip down memory lane. My Nana loved watching Andy Stewart and I would watch with her. I didn’t realise at the time that part of it was probably because her husband (who died in 1937 when my Dad was 5) was from Glasgow. I think Andy’s voice may have reminded her of my Grandad. (She met and married him when he was in the RAF near Ameysbury, Wiltshire, where she lived). Such a long time ago now!

We miss you Andy so much-we hope the angels enjoy your golden voice as much as we do on earth.

We went to see Andy and other popular singers of the day at a High School in Hamilton, Ontario. We were fairly recent immigrants and it was wonderful to hear the tunes we were so familiar with.

As a child born in England from a Scottish family we religiously watched Andy every time he appeared on the box. New Year was the only time we were allowed to stay up and join the festivities and by brother, being black haired had to go out to the neighbours and bring them the greetings. Not at midnight because the neighbours may be in bed but 9 o'clock the next morning as back then people did not lay late in bed because they needed to get up to light coal fires.

What a great find tonight. It brought back so many happy memories, why don't they replay this on New Years Eve? I will be playing it over and over, I also went to Arbroath High School where Andy's Dad was a teacher - happy days!!

I grew up listening to this SUPERB music and have fond memories of it all. WWII - and all its horrors/deprivation no doubt helped it succeed. Three cheers from this Sasenach! RIP Mr. Stewart.

Lovely to watch and remember as a wee boy in Edinburgh! As the last hour of 2020 approaches, I remember those New Year shows on the BBC. Now I see in 2021 in Kampala, Uganda. Happy New Year to one and all!
