When I started watching HxH some 15 years ago I accidentally started with the first OVA. I didn't understand wtf was happening but I loved it so much I binged the all the OVA's during my high school exams.
Then only later I found out there was a whole series preceeded those OVA's I was very happy to be able to watch all that too.
I watched the 2011 for a bit when it came out but then I figured it wasn't as good as the older one so I stopped watching.
Then my mate tells me that one goes way beyond GREED Island and I start watching again, only to see the greatest arc in all of anime in all time.
Then later my mate tells me the manga's gone ahead an started another insane arc.
And today, while writing this comment, I find out Togarashi's just posted a new chapter after a 3-year break.

I looked up the vocalist on Wikipedia, and it seems that her name is Rie and she is from Yamaguchi prefecture.
It's too sad that they disbanded after a short period of activity in 2002-2003.😭
They actually sang an ending of Fairy Tail, "Forever Here", but yeah. That's sad.

Also, I was really wondering why the animation looked much more new, and from what I read up on, there were 3 OVAs that were released at later dates.
Turns out that after the 1999 version of Hunter X Hunter ended after 62 episodes, fans weren't happy with the ending, it also left off on the Yorknew City Arc. A year later in 2002, they finished the Yorknew Arc in an OVA consisting of 8 episodes. It had the opening Genei Ryodan/Pale Ale, and it had the ending Carry On. What's interesting is that all 62 episodes were dubbed in English, but they didn't even translate the Yorknew City Arc OVA in English. Same with the remaining OVAs.
Another year later in 2003, the Greed Island Arc was released in another 8 episodes, with the opening Pray by Wish, and the ending Popcorn.
Then another year later in 2004, a 3rd OVA released, which was a continuation of the Greed Island Arc, titled G.I. Final. This OVA actually contained 14 episodes It had 2 variations of the same opening song, Believe In Tomorrow by Sunflower's Garden, just with different visuals that changed(edit)after 6 episodes into it. It's ending is called Nee Moshimo Kono Sekai De Kimi To Boku Ga(edit)which also had a second variation after 6 episodes into it, also by Sunflower's Garden.

In the original 1999 series there are 2 theme songs and 3 ending songs. The theme song "Ohayou" (Good Morning in Japanese) played for 48 episodes, while the first ending "Kaze No Uta" (Song of Wind) played for 31 episodes, and from episodes 32-50, the second ending theme, "Do You Feel Like I Feel" plays. On episode 49, the second opening "Taiyou Wa Yoru Mo Kagayaku" (The Sun Also Shines At Night) plays, up until the end, and same for the ending song Hotaru (Firefly) which started at episode 51.
So in total, the OVAs added up to 30 episodes. 62+30=92.
It actually looked worse. The Original was Really great
There's are so much good things happening in anime, though it is a fantasy. Compare to reality. That is why I watch anime because it inspires me, and gives me hope that someday our world will be better than this fantasy world.
The remake is good :) and I'm happy that they're gonna continue it with the Chimera Arc.But, for first time watchers, I advice you should watch the 1999 HunterxHunter first c: There's a lot of great things packed there that aren't in the re-make version!
Pray will still be one of my favorite songs!
remake trashes the beginning of the series. It's not terrible but it ruined the pacing of the story.
Some people well not watch the 1999 because of the art style just like one piece.
After 8 years, I can say the 2011 remake is one of the best anime today.

2023 I finally found it!!!
I absolutely love this anime. I began watching this anime on sunday 05/27/12. I watched 33 episodes of the 2011 version in 2 days then I found out there was an old version so I began watching that. I just finished the old version yesterday and I'm so sad because it was so amazing! I really really love Killua and I love the friendship between him and Gon. I hope that the new version will include a continuation of the old one! 92 episodes is not enough!

I think it is because there was drastic change in the artstyle compared to the original
That makes sense I mean it wasn't by the same studio so I'm not surprised that the art style changed of course I prefer the OG art style but the greed island art style isn't that bad

The old Hxh OVA and the Greed Island OVA had different directors, and apparently Greed Island looked bad visually and didn't have good animation.

I think it's really hard to choose, but I think the 1999 version is better because there are plenty dirty joke in it and the end Killua and Gon don't say goodbye each other. I really love the 2011 version because it's nice, good and hillarius, and there are more episodes, but my fav 1999

THE best Hunter x Hunter song (openings+endings). 2011's songs can't compared to this. Even though this OVA 2 is from year 2003, it's quality is better than 2011's in my opinion.

I have to admit. This anime is so well done, that even the eng dub is good.
True! i liked Killua, Hanzo, Mr. wing and Leorio in the dub the best. Kurapika sounds almost identical to the 2011 version (same with Hanzo). I do get the criticism for Gon, but personally, his voice doesn't really bother me.
I really wish (funny how that's the name of the singer for Pray) that they dubbed the Yorknew City Arc and the Greed Island Arc, but imagined if they dubbed it now with the modern voice actors!!! It's be a hit!

Ive seen the 1999 and 2011 ver. Honestly I love the 2011 ver a hundred times more than the old maybe cuz I already know the little details the old had. As for the 2011 ver, the ops and eds are amazing and the quality and the characters are better drawn just everything I could go on. All in all great show!

Hunter X Hunter is one of those animes that Needs More Love. Although it's not that well known, anyone who watches/reads it is willing to defend it without a seconds thought. The small fanbase is extremely loyal to it as well.
It was rated 28th in a 2006 'Best Anime of All Time' poll. I hink it should be higher up on the list.
I love this song so much some times I put it in repeat mode & let it there to play non stop for hours :D
