- Collection of funny moments in sailing. All filmed in last few years at practice and international regattas. Snow was in Athens, February 2004, with -18 degrees temperature. Celebration is filmed after winning 420 Europeans by Croatian team I was coaching, Matija Longin and Pavle Kostov.
I love the way the music is synchronized with the capsizing. This video makes me want to get out on the water.

God, this vid brings it all back. Was MAD keen dinghy sailor years ago. Done all these (and more!). Heavy-wind sailing in a small boat with spinnaker - real thrill. Trying to control the immense power of the wind and waves. Speed, spray and in the lap of the gods no matter how skilled you are: Livin' on the edge is RIGHT!!!

This is the first video what I saw about "real" sailing. It was maybe around 2009-2010. I was 13-14 years old. Since then I started to sail dinghies and learnt about sailing in my own way. In 2013 I bought myself an own sailingboat a Simoun 445 which I use as much I can but in my country(Hungary) you cannot go on the water on tough weather and it's not good. In 2014 I got my certification for bigger crafts and now in '16 I work as a skipper in the summers. The main fun is the small fasts dinghies of course. This video inspired me as mutch as now in '16 I'm an enthusiastic sailor. Thanks for this video!!!!!!
P.s.: Since ~2009 I saw many many many many sailing videos but despite of this it is still my favorite sailing video!
Betcha I've watched this video fifty times now. Great song and excellent footage and production, but by far the best part of it is that it shows how exciting and how much *fun* sailing can be. No whiners and their tantrums here. Doubtless they were there at the regattas, but thanks to ivanbulaja for editing them out.
I worked the 1st mark for the 470s in the '94 Olympics. This brought back great memories. Thank you.

takes more experience than people think to be a good sailor. we dpnt just get in and turn a key to go. we fight gusts and have to find balance. what a thrill. i will always love sailing!

Great video !!! I had a Laser back in the 70s, for anyone that wants to learn how to swim, get one and you WILL learn lol. This is about as "in touch" as sailing gets : )))

wow... i love the 420... it brought back sooo many memories of my highschool sailing team.. especially the last clip of that boat turtled lol i definately know how that feels in high winds

That clip was amazing! i absolutely loved it. sailing is like the most intense sport there is. i sail in lasers with my friends on the Race team and we sailed in Cork one time and it was totally insane. i mean we turtled like every ten seconds cause the winds were so intense. we even blew two of or spins :( there goes a couple thousand. but it still rocked. i really recomend it

Because they are sailing as a sport, not as a sunday-eavning-picnic with the family in .5 knots of speed on the lake next to your summer-hut as you propably are.
Amen. This video exhibits both excellent seamanship as well as some mistakes. What's awesome is watching someone right a turtled boat lickety split. That says more about the sailor than the mistake he made getting knocked down.
If you haven't been knocked down you haven't sailed enough (or you sail multihulls, or just heavy ballasted boats).

This brings back a lot of memories in Tampa Bay and 420's we raced there.
I have no idea how many times I have watched this or how many friends I have shown this to. I think it was one of my first posts for our sailing club's Facebook page, the Creve Coeur Sailing Association in St.Louis.

The guy at 4:16 is jumping ahead of the inevitable.
Img this takes me back to the FD and 505 days, I must have done all of these capsizes. Although haven't seen the forward capsize carried out by me and bro at the finish line down at Lee on Solent in the Javelin. Favourite is at 4.16, me on the wire and Martin on the helm.....we did that one!!
Yes, un-cleat main when tacking (1:47 and 2:42); also hike, bear off early in puffs (:44), pull in the main to prevent death roll (:33, :39, :54), weight back, steer not to submarine, keep balance (easy to say). And when you do go over, don't climb over the high side if your weight will drive mast down, duck under for board or jump off (skipper at 5:45). Windward capsize, jump in under board at 3:18 (far left), hug it / hold rail, ride to new high side & stand up! Been there, done all of these!

And yes, i know that those are 470's, but i prefer the trainer 420's and Laser II's those are GREAT!

Oh snap, I got ya beat, I live on long island sound. and i am extremely greatful to live there, because i can walk to any of my boats, whether its a motorboat or a sailboat, and now i sail competitively it has to be one of the most beautiful sailing areas ever

Nothing better than the adrenaline of sitting up on the side of your hull cutting through the water. Nothing worse than the pit in your stomach when you realize you've heeled too far and your cockpit's filling with water. Can't wait to get out there this summer!
