Asking Erewhon Shoppers What They Do For a Living
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 15. 08. 2024
- In this video, I ask people at Erewhon a bunch of questions like what they do for a living, how much they make, why they shop at such an expensive store, and a bunch of other spicy questions.
Erewhon Market is probably one of the most expensive grocery stores in the world (they have 7 locations in LA), and I've always wondered who shops here, what they get, and how much it costs at the end of the day. I ended up spending $25 on a wellness juice and another $11 on a dozen eggs.
I met some really cool people and you'll want to stay until the end to hear about all the great advice and stories they had! Definitely out of my comfort zone asking random people at the store a bunch of really personal questions, but I had a lot of fun and learned a lot.

Scroll up and smash that like button! RIP my wallet on spending $25 on a juice and $11 on eggs but to be fair they were really good
Just because people shop there doesn't mean they're rich. When I was making only $12/hr as a nanny, I still only shopped at Whole Foods? Some of us equate wealth with health, and we only want to eat the highest quality food.
Don't waste time.
Wow thatâs some expensive juice đŠ đ°
more expensive than whole foods?
As a former Erewhon employee - behind closed doors I can confidently say that they treat their employees like crap and they are wayyyy underpaid for how much money they make.
Thank you for being honest. I knew it !! I knew it đ places like this they always treat their employees badly, Iâm so sorry that was your experience
Why am I not surprised đ
Ugh that's so didsapointing. I thought oh they at least pay their employees well if they are that expensive so that's one upside. But nope. Sad
Sounds about right for a business
I get that vibe shopping there. The employees seem on edge and anxious. Love the food they have but that part makes me not want to shop there
"Can't put a price on your health" true but you can buy all those ingredients at the local grocery store and make that meal yourself for the entire week for that price.
Yeah if buying from this grocery store really did something for your health youâd think people buying from here would all be living well and up to 100+. That or everyone else not buying from there would be in terrible health and dying but it seems thatâs not the case. Pretty much just a cop out
hes just there to take photos for IG or meet rich people. its not for health
@mrEd Health is not that black and white
Right they just donât wanna cook
@@broadwaye984 yeah, my point is that this grocery store isnât healthier than others lmao

Wow, Eric is just 27 and has so many valuable lessons to give! He seems like a really genuine guy too, very appreciative of his advice!
Eric was great!!
The way he never said "uhhm.." or "like".
I LOOOOOOVED every single thing that guy said. He's very humble and real, while amazingly inspiring.
He communicates so well too...!
@@claudiacaro624 he said âlikeâ a few times actually but there is nothing wrong with that. It means youâre thinking about what youâre saying and if have problem with it itâs a personal issue you have w yourself.
100% agree! I hung on to every single word Eric said during the interview! Such an intelligent young man.
The first guy got defensive and sort of rude when you asked how much he paid for rent. That's a simple question that is not uncommon, yet he was acting like it's a personal question.
He lives at home with his MOM
He for sure still lives at home thats why lmao
I was wondering why he got so defensive. The comments about him living with his mom and not actually paying rent makes so much sense đ
Dude turned instant bad vibes
Because he was making everything up as the interview went along.
As someone who works in the health grocery a lot of the stuff youâre buying comes from the same farms target, Albertsons and other grocery stores use . Itâs just marketing so you can pay more.
Shhhhđ€«we live in a dumbed down society your not allowed to make sense.
Nah Erewhon is different
@@brandonwinston No itâs not. You donât go to Erewhon bc itâs healthy. You go there bc only the super rich shop there. Nobody in the video was willing to admit that though.
It's suppose to be organic.
It depends on the grocery store. Near San Diego is Jimboâs supermarket, and itâs all organic produce, mostly from local farms. We can definitely tell the difference in quality compared to other supermarkets. But I agree expensive doesnât always mean better. Lazy Acres is nearby and their organic produce isnât as great as Jimbos, so go figure
Even if Erewhon employees got a 50% discount...I'm still not paying $11 for a small juice. The prices are just insane.
Feels like the guy with the flowers is an awesome human being
@R.machado yep and the way he talks gives me good vibesssss
Yep, my thought the same way. He was very articulate. Makes me want to buy the book he recommended.
I like your "asking people what they do for a living" videos so much better than all the others i've seen so far, you ask questions tailored to their previous answers and touch on philosophical questions as well. It's easy to tell the difference between an interviewer who puts these videos out for views and one that actually wants these videos to be helpful
Wow thank you Ariel, that made my day! I still have a long way to go but thank you for seeing the effort Iâm putting in
The 1st person is the reason why people hate us (LA Natives), the 2nd person and 3rd is truly who we truly are.
LA natives are Australian????
@@joeyree22 yes, you a racist or something?
Correction, the 2nd lady is who Australians are.
Why?
I thought it was fousey
Eric had the best answers and seems really wise for his age. He's doing it right. I did love the happy nanny as she gives off positive vibes. Also loved the last girl as she has some great answers as well and if I was young, I'd totally do that house sitting thing since that sounds like a great way to see the world.
you can really tell that you care about their answers - itâs not âwhat do you do for a living?â and then âwhat did you have for breakfast today?â or something random. you dive deeper into their answers which, on top of making them feel more heard, provides for some really quality content that you wouldnât otherwise get! loved how you treated everyone in the video, didnât shame them or ridicule them for their decision, seemed actually interested in why they shopped there. great video :)
I appreciate the kind words a lot!!! Thank you

I loved Ericâs advice for aspiring entrepreneurs⊠âTry everything once in order to find out what works for you.â As he mentioned, in America we are definitely pushed to go to college and work until weâre 60 and then retire off of our investment portfolios. However, for me and a lot of other people out there, that doesnât sound like the most fulfilling life. Videos like these show me that itâs possible to achieve all of your financial dreams while also doing what you love. Iâm loving these videos Charlie. Keep it up!
Yeah frrr heâs cool
I agree
If we donât go to college all the remaining jobs are hard low wages, so what are you doing?
@@ahbe9232 Not true, you can do lots of things in business and tech space with no degree and still make a lot. You still need to be knowledgeable but online resources are better every day.
@@ahbe9232 ainât about jobs bro I mean sure you could get a low paying job but than save up enough to start your own job you truly fw or company
Speaking as a New Yorker, a place that rivals California in rent, I can definitively say that asking someone their rent, as long as you have some kind of rapport, is pretty common xD
Yes, so agree with Eric! I tried FBA, coding, dropshipping etc. too, and eventually realized I loved painting and making art courses. Trying a bunch of stuff helps the things you actually like surface much easier. And all of those "fails" teach you so many skills that will serve you in the next area.
What do you invest your money in?
Jaime: Myself. Thereâs a lot that I want to do in this world and I want to be able to show up every day in a way that allows me to be my best self so that I can contribute to the bigger part of humanity. And I wanna do a lot for other people. So in order to do that I have to take of myself.
Wow...Such a nuanced approach to self-care. Service yourself first so you can serve other people. Really came full circle there.
So, in other words, she doesnât invest at all đ
I live here in LA and everyone Iâve met asks how much rent is to each other lol
Iâve lived in LA my entire life and I canât think of a single person whoâs ever asked me how much my rent is.

Great interviews! My favorite was Eric's perspective. All these ppl are articulate, informative, and innovative just like you, Charlie!
my thoughts exactly. they are smart and articulate.
Natalia definitely has that cool auntie vibe đ Love these series Charlie.
Your sound is đ€đœ even outdoors ! This reminded me I need to upgrade my videos sound quality đ
Fr I like her. Her vibe is so calming and warm through the screen.
House sitting sounds like something I would love to do once I finish college. It seems like an interesting way of experience life.
How would that be an interesting way to experience life?
How?
@Hit and Run what do u mean lol
I did house and pet sitting in the summers in between college. I totally recommend it. It was basically a way to make money passively.
I absolutely adore this series. Keep up the good work!!
He shouldâve put $2000 on the thumbnail. You can easily drop 200 at any grocery store nowadays sadly. đ
Eric folded on that $100 MILLION đđ
I think a lot of people wouldâve đ
I really enjoy your videos. Specially these segments where you ask personal questions to real people and we get to see how they live. For me, I realize most of them make about same as me or less yet they spend more money and I have no clue how they do that lol. Maybe a good question to ask is this " how much do spend per month compare to how much you save? :)
In NEW YORK all we do is ask each other how much we pay for rent....oh Los Angelinos....
Haha thatâs funny
In L.A everyone here is fake nice and very secretive and they lie a lot to put themselves on pedestals
At $25 per bottle, that carrot juice better regenerate a pale optic nerve.
Lol
The Nanny was a vibe. Just greatful for life.
20:45 this is actually some of the best advice in any of these videos and most will ignore it. Critical advice tbh
Charlie please interview people in small towns, the LA crowd seems to be using a lot of influencer jargon and donât seem real.
yeah, from L.A and can say everyone here is nice/ often passively nice and incredibly fake. Plan on leaving this city in the future....
LA and OC are some of the most expensive zip codes in the country. If you want to learn what wealthy people do for a living, why would you interview small town people? Makes no sense. If anything, he should make a trip to Bay Area and NYC
LOL...cause LA ain't real ;))

First dude was weird. As a trainer you shouldn't be suggesting running to anybody, it's not easy like he said. After years of not moving your body, running becomes extremely complex for the average person. Also asking about rent is completely normal lol.
Love these series most and I also love all the follow up questions you have for them. Keep it coming man.

Kudos to Eric! He tried so many things and heâs only 27 years old đ
Seems like a lot of people who shop there aren't actually rich... they just fell for the viral marketing on social media or want to feel like they're doing something special. There's a reason all their locations are in LA... lots of suckers willing to pay extra for a "lifestyle."
All of these people seem so insightful and well spoken..would love to have a conversation with them they all have such important info to offer. InspiringâŠI loved this!
I was there in May. When I looked at my bill and it seemed especially insane, I noticed I had just paid $15 for a pint of strawberries. Mind you, they looked particularly amazing, but there is no Fing way any strawberries are worth that.

People with money are usually more responsible with their money. I bet I could make their smoothies for a fraction of the price. I rather spend my money on going on vacations.
Itâs a status thing. Nobody is actually going there just because the food is healthy. Shame that nobody ever wants to admit that in these videos.
This is factually false, most people in every income category have the same spending habits
â@@jtowensbyiii6018People have completely different spending habits based on personality.

If one is wealthy or rich currently, he or she will be broke eventually shopping there for carrot juice or grocery in general (but there is a niche for everything in this world). It's funny how people can jack up the prices on things and make people believe it's better than the $5- or $10-dollar carrot juice in Chinatown or at one of the juice shops that are well known, etc.
