- I live offgrid and am working toward living a hunter gatherer lifestyle combined with other bushcraft and homestead lifestyle skills. It's just me, my three dogs, my eight horses, two goats and eleven chickens out here in the sagebrush hills or at my farm property on a creek.
A few years ago I made the decision to finally live the life I'd wanted to live since I was young and these videos are of me learning, and practicing the skills needed for that lifestyle. Life is a whole lot better Over on the Wild Side! - Jak na to + styl
I couldn't help but notice that when you sat down in that creek, you voice went up about three notes. I guess that just proves you're human. Nice video!
Haha! Yeah it was cold. And that was me being calm haha!
It's the title "cowboy camping" which caught my attention.
I was thinking I'm going to like it. And I did.
😊
Cool, thanks, I’m glad to hear it.
I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who rides out with a goat entourage.
Goats are wonderful
Not sure why this channel has not got a lot more subscribers. Thanks for sharing your trail, land, animals, time, and life with us all. Gods speed to you and your family. 👍🇺🇸
Thanks for being here!
Great content bud! I followed you here from r/Survival
Awesome! Thanks for the feedback and the follow! I’ll keep making them.
@@OverOnTheWildSide thanks for letting me live my dream vicariously through you. :)
@@OverOnTheWildSide This was fun to watch, exactly what I was lookin for
@@bryson750 I’m glad to hear. I plan to get back to making more soon.
Always amazed me how well goats and horses get along together
I would love to be able to live like they did back then.
Came across your videos after watching waypoint survival and I'm glad I did. Very nice and VERY simple like how life should be. I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Awesome, thanks for saying so. Waypoint is a great channel.
Would be awesome to lay out there at night with the fire going. So glad I found this channel, really relaxing and interesting to watch.
You're an inspiration. I'm at a crossroads in my life right now and I think I've found the direction I want to go. Thanks Wrangler.
I’m glad to hear it.
Great content. Being horseback is always a wonderful time!
That’s for sure!
Great video, thanks 👍
You are living my dream I'm working on getting myself a Horse and then it's on the trail for me
I wish you the best, it’ll be an adventure you won’t regret.
This is the first film of yours for me to see ...... LIOVE it !!! Music is good , maybe add some fiddles as well - From Canada
Haha! Yes some fiddle would be great!
when I make my coffee from coffee beans. I put them on an piece of cloth, bring the corner together holding it with one hand. against a hard surface and beat it with a rock or piece of wood. you' re done in no time. works great!
I’m gonna give that a try! My method takes forever.
Just came across this channel and I'm glad I did, just what I've been looking for!
I’m glad to hear that, thank you. I hope to get back to making videos soon.
Chard... Burnt= horse no games so good luck with your lifestyle choices thanks 👍🥇✌️💯
New subscriber here from singapore. Goodluck buddy and stay safe
Thanks! Btw I got to visit your country for an afternoon once, it’s beautiful!
Found you through your post at /r/survivalism. As a Civil War buff & camping nut I love this.
Awesome! I appreciate hearing that from a fellow living historian.
Very enjoyable videos. I applaud your desire to move to a more primitive, less tech.- driven (?) lifestyle with activities centered on the cowboy world. We are out there! I really look forward to seeing more practical, hunter/gatherer and cowboy outdoor content. Should be fun. I like your comment that you are learning as you go. Honesty...good! I loved seeing your "four wheel drive" horse transport; not always easy when on-the-trail. All the best, "pard", from Montana. P.S.: your clothes are spot-on. :)
Thanks a ton! I do look forward to more forage/eating in the videos. I’m planning one where it makes the majority of my food on my camp trip.
Outstanding!
Enjoyed your video.
Looks like beautiful country
I think so, I love open desert land.
I have the same dream. But must wait 2 more years. Your videos fill the void and inspire.🙂
Awesome, I’m glad to hear that.
Pretty cool , thanks for posting
Thank you
Just found your channel brother and subscribed I love this stuff
Glad to found your channel.
Thank you, glad you’re here.
Hello Marius from Romania 🙋🙏🤠🇹🇩
Hello Marius
Congrats on doing so good. Also awesome that you brought your goats.
Just came across your channel. You're doin what I often daydream about.
Nice vid! Looking forward to more. Interested in learning more about tent set up, cooking, etc.
I appreciate hearing that! I had a lot more footage about the tent but I cut it. I’ll talk about it in another video. I’ll do more cooking demos too.
I watch other "hiiikers" with new material gear. Really ggod stuff. But combined with proven old ways makes for a great journey.
Thank you, I’ve enjoyed it quite a bit.
Hello, just found your sight and after just a few minutes of watching I was happy to subscribe and click the bell. nice honest real video. just what I was looking for. and now I have 2 years worth to watch. I hope you're still making these. looking forward to more.
Glad you found it! Yes I just got back to it but then I’ve been off for a couple weeks but hope to get another camp video out next week.
Looks like a great setup. Thanks for taking us along!
Thanks for joining us!
I'm not sure why but I've always enjoyed seeing videos or especially actual TV shows with people screwing up talking and just saying it again instead of editing it out. It just shows that it's still real life
Thanks, I’m glad to hear that.
Totally awesome! Now that's camping. Sending love and light.
Thank you 🙏
You are living the life… I am from Croatia but from young age I feel like I needed to be born in wild west age.. hope one day I will visit your country
I love hearing how the spirit of the West encaptures people in various parts of the world. When you make it over I’m sure you’ll love it. Btw you have a fascinating country as well!
6:16 hahaha well said friend, and yes this is true reality tv love this
Thank you can't wait to see more
All the way from New Zealand!
That’s awesome! Thanks! I’ll be making more and working at making them more and more watchable.
I really like what you're doing and enjoyed watching so much that I subscribed and I'm going to watch a few more now.
That’s great, I’m glad you found my channel.
Back to basics ! Just how the pilgrims did . Enjoy your video thanks for keeping it real , respect from 🇨🇦 Ontario.
Thanks! Glad you’re here
Sure do enjoy your videos. Not just because I like primitive camping myself but I like the cowboy persona you portray. What's best tho is watching the dogs, horses and goats follow you around.
Quite a little band you have there. Nice calming videos and I can't wait for the 4" of snow we have to go so I can get out again.
First time viewer here. So I’m a big fan of wool also….though I never sat in a river. Not on purpose anyway 😀. They aren’t supposed to keep you warm in a stream, but be warmer than other fabrics once you get out. Squeezing out the water would help a lot too, and not be a cheat.
Having some artificial fibres in wool helps make it a little tougher….or at least that’s what they say.
I love my wool because I live up in Canada and I work outside, inside, outside, inside all day everyday, amd wool is way more forgiving for temps. Just a little hot or cold with polyester fleece and I’m uncomfortable, but with wool? Way way better. And even a super thin wool undershirt makes a huge difference in the cold.
I liked your video. I think I’ll subscribe and learn a bit more about you. Thanks for posting this.
Yes living close to the land and in all the elements that nature has to over is so good for the soul. I am so happy that you are doing what you are doing. I am trying to.learn as much as I can about how our ancestors lived. Feeling healthy finally is the way I intend on staying. No poisonous drugs or experimental vacs. for me thank you. I would love to learn how to make homemade leather moccasins. I watched Indians preparing leather. Also would love to learn how the Indians found and prepared meats foods ect. Great video.
That’s awesome to hear, there are a lot of people out there willing to teach how to do brain tan deer hides.
New friend is here! Thank you for sharing this video! ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for subscribing!
Look at those happy dogs!
You might find a pair of chaps will help with the big sage and keep you warmer.
Good idea
Awesome, enjoyed your video, thanks for sharing, keep looking up!
Thanks! I appreciate it!
Based on your name I’m guessing you found me through Born 100 Years Too Late, I subscribed to you back.
I really like your videos love the great outdoors the old ways , appreciate your support and information, keep looking up!
I like your videos, a lot. We're all learning. I wear wool almost every day and have been doing so for many years. One thing though, don't let it get wet. :) Dry wool is awesome at keeping you warm, especially when layered. And on warm days, a single layer of wool won't overheat you. But wet wool is no good. Wet wool holds water, making it very heavy. It also takes what seems like forever to dry. To dry it, ring out the water. Then lay it flat on a rack. If you hang it, it will stretch a mile. And then wait. So there you have it, as you discovered, don't get your wool wet. When wet, it's warming properties no longer exist. And never put wet wool in a warm clothes dryer. The heat will shrink it down to child size.
Looks like a lot of fun, guess there are no chiggers and ticks.
We get ticks here but no chiggers. So far I haven’t seen any, last year I only had four or five on me and probably 100 on each dog for the year. Still not too bad.
great video and fantastic lifestyle, keep uploading videos !
My man!!!! Living the dream... my dream. I wish I could detach myself to the day to day I've become custom too I could transition fairly easily but you went full bore I will be sharing and continuing to watch Grant content unfiltered
Thanks, I’m glad you found it.
Thanks for sharing. Modern society thinks glamping in a 40' diesel pusher rv is "roughin it"...lol.
Yeah I love how my normal life is roughing it to most and then I go out and “rough it” which is actually pretty comfortable.
There is a tent design called the Whelan that is open in front and has flaps or wings that extend on the sides .might give you room for the dogs.
I just googled it. It’d be interesting to see how it does in the wind. My goal is to have flaps that’s close in rather than out like wings.
Awesome! Great day to take everyone for a hike.
Amazing video mate, good luck out there!!!
I love this. Thank you. No stress. Good food. Staying warm.
Thanks, that particular trip was great.
Came here from reddit, lovely content and can't wait for more! I'd love that lifestyle....sigh....the dresses, hats and fresh air!
Yeah the women looked amazing! I’m working on a short film with a gal in it so it’s been fun learning a bit about that too. Thanks for watching and I’m glad you’re here!
Got a recipe for ya .
Corn meal grind into flour ,
Salt to taste
Herbs if u want em .. I used dill
Baking soda
Potatoe starch to stick it all together
Pan fry it till its done .. it's awesome .. tastes like a healthy frito
It does sound good.
@@OverOnTheWildSide it was .. like a healthy frito bread . I made it about the size of a pancake and watched my family devour it
Excelente!
Thanks brudda
Just found your channel. New sub. Great to see a man living the good life many of us wished for.
Thank you, my only wish is that I’d made the move years earlier.
great work Richard!
Love your videos! Keep making great content ;) 👍🤠👍
Thanks, will do!
There's something surreal about a modern day cowboy larping like an old school wild west cowboy by a campfire using period correct equipment saying "Life is good." A statement echoed by California inspired backpackers and thru hikers. I guess deep down, no matter what background you come from, we all experience the wilderness the same way, just with our own personal quirks.
Definitely.
That's know-how. I also recommend a 'soogans"--- canvas cowboy bedroll (from Cariola's, Elko).
Bedrolls are wonderful, the problem is that since I focus on 1860 I’m pretty restricted. No one I know has seen bedrolls show up historically until the late 1880’s if I remember right.
Just found your channel. Had to sub after the wool 80% test. That was real enough for me my friend. Sharing this video with some folks. Keep this up and you will keep this sub👍
That’s humbling to hear, thank you!
I like it. Good stuff.
Thanks!
Unfortunately I can’t travel or camp for about the next year or so because of family issues but watching you brings me back and man I miss my Sonoran desert.
Somehow I missed your comment before. Thanks for the feedback and I hope you’re able to get back to it soon. I love the Arizona desert. (I’m guessing that’s the Sonora you mean)
Good stuff. Living life your way.
Just found you and subscribed. My grand parents lived in the west, and that's all I think about. I hope to return out there again, and get back to what I like to do again. Hunt, fish, prospecting, and roam around.
I hope you get back to it, my big regret is not doing it years earlier. Especially if you like prospecting! I hear it’s realistic to make a living off of that. (Assuming you’re living inexpensive you)
Howdy partner. Great campin'! Keep up the good work pal. 👍🤠👍
Man, I absolutely love this! Might give this a try here in a few weeks
Thanks! I bet you’ll be glad if you do.
You got my sub when you asked as you sat into the cold creek. I laughed and thought man..been there done that and it's well worth a sub. Good stuff man
Thanks man! That’s probably the highlight of my videos, I hope to get some good ones out in 2022.
@@OverOnTheWildSide I'll be watchin!
If I were younger, I would move into a ghost town and hope others would follow.
Just found your channel. really like what you’re doing. Keep the 1800 COWBOY contact coming
Will do! I expect it to be a year of lots of Cowboy Camping videos.
Just found your channel, love what you’re doing out there!

Stumbled across u. I like you and subscribed. Hope you all the success my friend. Currently tryn to buy lamd and get back to ranchn. Tired of the city life

Just subscribed and looking forward to seeing your journey
Vids awesome man. God bless!
Thanks! God bless as well my friend.
Subbed from “ born 100 years to late” good content man
Awesome! Thank you
You really are living a great life. That river bit had me cracking up 😂.
Haha thanks!
interesting modification to the diamond fly. i can see how that would work well as long as the wind isn't blowing directly into the open front of the tent. in my experience the advantage of wool over cotton or synthetics has mostly to do with the moisture the body produces while being active in the cold. it insulates and reduces that chilled clammy feeling on the skin that makes ya shiver and shake. as far as direct immersion into cold water, it'll keep ya alive longer than cotton but probably not comfortable. i enjoyed the video.
Thanks man, good points. Where I am the wind mostly comes from an expected direction. Cause yeah, otherwise it’s a balloon.
Good point about the wool in cold weather conditions.
Life IS good! I see why people write books about the land.
Yes there is so much growth and change that I’m going through. I sometimes think about starting a new channel just for that side of things.
Love this
Thanks
Just found this channel, I've been looking for a channel like this for so long! I can't wait for the next cowboy camping video!
I can’t wait to make it! There may be a cooking ep next though...
And yeah, I was looking for a channel like this myself and then decided to start making videos that I wanted to watch. I’m really glad other people are liking them!

That’s commitment! Thanks!
Here in British Columbia we wear Stanfield's wool henley's. I wear it without a coat. 80% wool. Repels rain and snow. I suggest looking them up. Stanfield's is a Canadian company
Looks like good clothing.
I loooove that you dared to have so much of the video silent or just with music. Love iiiit
Sweet, I’m glad you liked it. I’ve heard the other as well... haha!

Thanx a Mingo ol pard! I appreciate your being. Extremely motivational. As I can't fit into the mold modern society expects. This is a lifestyle I'm still working towards. It's amazing how powerful the matrix is. But to be able to completely cut ties with it...az god intended all the way around.
I wish you good fortune in doing so. I’m very glad to have broken free.
