      I'm not sure what your talking about. Pride in their work? professional results? I bet you anything this car is probably leaking every single time it rains. There's rust everywere under that windshield and you could see him put Primer on ACTUAL RUST. this will do nothing lol. Rust is still there. That's cowboy shit. 1:39 look at all that Orange. 2:29 MORE ORANGE spread across glue surface lol. Will never seal properly unless rust treated. 2:42 cleaning orange AND dashboard. make sure that dash is spotless so they're so distracted from all the water coming in when it rains. 2:47 Painting over Orange rust lol.
      I hope the customer paid a less then 100 bucks for that job lol. That ain't professional.

    Do you use a heater for the urethane or was the sun and asphalt sufficient enough? And do you notice much of a difference between laying the urethane on the pinch weld vs the windshield like a lot of installers preach?
    About to do my first windshield. Trying to make sure I don’t need to do it twice 😂

    • @miketheglassguy7568
      @miketheglassguy7568  Před 8 měsíci

      In the summer I don’t heat the up the urethane at all. Unless they have been sitting in the truck overnight and it was below freezing you should be fine. I prefer to lay it on the pinch weld especially if your new at this I recommend pinch weld you have more room for error. If you run the bead on the glass the bottom of the windshield can be hard to lay it on the pinch weld exactly where it needs to go. Best of luck! You got this!!

    • @Warriormedic68
      @Warriormedic68 Před 6 měsíci +1

      The ONLY reason to put urethane on the window instead of the body is because safelite says "that's how OE does it"
      Except OE also always uses setting pins and robots to both lay the glue and the glass.
      Humans are not as accurate as robots.
      Put the glue on the pinchweld. There are like maybe 3 vehicles I can think of where putting glue on the glass is actually preferable, and one is a Volvo where taking the hood off would almost be required to run the pinchweld.
      And the other ones are all big ass vans with huge windows and it's just easier to glue the glass and set them.

    I work for a commercial glass company (strorefront/curtainwall mainly). I am an estimator (read plans and bid jobs in the office) and I run the fabication in the shop. I installed for a year or so and have a couple years of experience with replacing door lites and side lites and wet glazing glass into different systems. With that said.....should I save a few hundred and order the glass myself and do the work myself? I know i will have to buy a few things I'm sure, however if I just have glass cost basically and my own labor is it worth it for me to do the work. I love to save money and my dedctible is 750 and safelite wants $500. I can get the glass for $250 i believe. Also I wouldnt mind having a little side gig since the company i work for doesnt offer it they wouldnt care what I do from home.

  • @vivddrems2300
    @vivddrems2300 Před 10 měsíci +1

    Broad question but i havent done or had training for a windshield install and im planning on finishing up the install on my s10 would the hardest part about the install be the beading and correct hieght of the urethane ? And also in what situation would i need to use glass/urethane primer under the urethane ?

    • @miketheglassguy7568
      @miketheglassguy7568  Před 10 měsíci +4

      That is definitely one of the most important parts. It takes a while to learn how to lay the bead correctly. If your off even a little bit it can cause air leaks. Also the urethane tubes are hard to push out so a electric caulking gun is recommended. You only have so long to run the bead till it starts to cure and won’t stick to the glass properly. Also depending on what urethane you get most do require primer that goes with the urethane. You can’t use a different brand primer for the urethane or it won’t stick. There are some primerless urethane just might be a longer safe drive away time. Also making sure the old urethane stuck to the vehicle is trimmed down properly. You want it nice and flat. About 1/8 inch sticking up. Not too close to the pinch wield. If you see rust then grind out as much as you can without damaging the pinch wield and use black primer that goes with whatever brand of urethane you get. Hope this helps! Please feel free to ask me any questions I’m happy to help!

    Mike: I have a brand new Mazda 2023 4 door 3 sedan sport, under lease, I noticed the last day or so that I somehow had road or rock damage, or deliberate damage,
    with hairline cracking or chipping rather, in various spots on the windshield. It almost looks like the wipers did some damage too, on the lines of the wiper arcs, but
    I don't see how since the vehicle is not a month old or so. Also, how do you replace Mazda windshield since the upper center interior of it has that large plastic rearview
    mirror/seatbelt alarms etc. electronics module seated on it? Is that removable like the mirror, easily? I have no idea. I'm bringing the car in tomorrow to my dealer
    and praying they can just replace the windshield. The chipping isn't the worst ever but it's already noticeable and marring the view a bit. I was super pissed off.
    Also my street has been ripped up the past two days and then Monday again, for repaving! So all kinds of rocks and shit has been thrown up for days here. Really great
    when you just took delivery of a new car! Are road damage or deliberate damage usually covered by the dealer on a new leased car? I know most repairs or defects are,
    minus tire wear and tear. I've never had cracks or chips so bad before I had to have repaired, ever. And again, this car is a month old. The scratches and chipping are surface,
    not deep.

    • @miketheglassguy7568
      @miketheglassguy7568  Před 10 měsíci

      Hi there! Sorry that happened to you. Unfortunately it is pretty common but it being such a new vehicle the dealer should definitely take care of you and it really just depends on what insurance you have. Do you have full coverage? Also you don’t have to take it to a dealer if the wait is very long then I recommend going to your local auto glass shop that has good reviews and might not have to wait as long. As far as the installation every vehicle is different. Yours most likely has a rain sensor and lane departure system which is behind that plastic piece behind the rear view mirror. All of that doesn’t need to be replaced don’t worry. It’s just a brakes that comes on the new windshield and you just unplug the sensors and re plug it in after you install the new glass. If that makes sense?

    What about calibrating it afterwards how does that work

    • @miketheglassguy7568
      @miketheglassguy7568  Před 10 měsíci

      This vehicle had no rain sensors or Lane departure system so there was nothing to calibrate if that makes sense? There are certain vehicles that do require it but only the newer models. Thanks for watching! 🤙

    Do you put the molding back on ?

    • @miketheglassguy7568
      @miketheglassguy7568  Před 9 měsíci +1

      I put a new moulding onto the new windshield before install. Sometimes you can save the old one. They are so cheap though it’s best to just replace it. Some mouldings come attached to the new windshield. Thanks for watching!

    Except the motor of the Tesla Y, the car is built kind of flimsy. I just bought a 2023 Tesla Model Y and the paint in the front chips easily and within 4 months my wind shield cracked. A tiny pen needle size chip (just think of a tip of a ball point pen) created a crack across the wind shield. There’s probably too much pressure when assembled. I wanted this car for awhile now and after getting it. It’s just ok. Just don’t believe the hype about the car. I think many believers of Tesla might over look it’s flaws and not tell you the truth about this car. I’m telling you you’ll probably have many issues with your car and pay good money because it’s not covered by their warranty before you get all the kinks and flaws out of your car. Tesla needs to do better in building their cars
