    Super - I have looked at a number of videos and articles about the Orton Effect but always felt they were over-complicating the process. This nails it - giving an explanation and then running through it again as a kind of summary is a classic teaching method and works perfectly here.

    Thanks so much for showing me how to make my photos glow without taking it into photo shop. And thanks for you clear and detailed instructions that made it possible for even a beginner like me to understand.

    I just wanted to add some glow into my photos and not only i just learned about the orton effect but i learned a lot about lightroom. Thank you very much for this tutorial this gave me a lot of tools to mess around

    You're the first person I've come across that does it *almost* the same way as me. Brother!! 😀 I use a few other sliders to dial it in and have it saved as local adjustment preset, then just adjust the total effect by collapsing the panel and tweaking with the Amount slider. Glad I did my how-to video last month or everyone would say I just stole it from you. lol

      As my Statics professor would say when I was in college: there are 16 different ways to solve every problem. Good idea with the preset. :)

    I would like to see this Orton Effect, as I know the name of the effect now (THX!), on a portrait picture with a nature background. Maybe you can make a video on that for I think we will have to take care of other aspects to maybe not overdue this on the face of a subject. I have seen magically photos, not only making them glow but also look a bit vintage. Great cool trick. Enjoyed watching it. LIKE!

  • @pauloricardoferreira2841

    Joshua, thanks for turning easier for us with this wizard trick. The key point, as I see, is the use of the luminance mask in the graduated filter tool.

    Wow, this just blew me away. Always thought I had to go into Ps to do the Orton, and for an image with simple edits, I'd get lazy and not do it at all. Not anymore!!
    I imagine you could take the brush tool while still in grad grad filter mode, click erase, and remove that effect from areas you don't want it.
    This is awesome, thanks Josh!

    Hi Joshua: Thanks for developing this video. This tip is brilliant! Is there any other opportunity to make additional videos on tools that would normally be done in PS but can now be done within LR? If so, I think that would make a remarkable series of training videos. Cheers, Keith (Canada)

    For some reason the range tab doesn’t appear for me when the gradient mask is applied. Don’t know if this a problem with a new version update or something else. Anyone else having the same problems?

    • @mickdean2256
      @mickdean2256 Před rokem

      I found the same thing and then done a 'help' search for range mask in the program. I'm not certain yet but it seems that LR have included range masks as a separate entity in the tools section >tools>create new mask>luminosity range. This video is two years old now so updates seems to have altered things. Hope this helps, though I stand to be corrected.

    I really love the glow effect in snapspeed. Any idea how to replicate it in ps?
    They also has a bw wash effect that is just stunning for portraits.
    I need to replicate it in ps for efficiency.
