This whole thing is typical of social media these days. Drama blown up out of all proportion and fake racial/bigotry connotations thrown in for good measure. People getting offended by a silly immature post and not taking it for what it actually is, a joke. It's probably un-professional by Behringer but Kirn could easily use this whole thing for his benefit and come back with something witty to make Behringer look silly and use it for some publicity. Instead the SJW mob jump on it and try to make it worse than it actually is. Ian I thought better of you man. No need to spread mis-information and jump on the band wagon for a few clicks. Un-subbed.

Hi Richard you are welcome to your opinion and I'm sorry you unsubbed but I stand by my video, Peter Kirn in the Art+Music+Technology podcast he said that he didn't find it funny and is glad it all over. I didn't do the video for views, it only recieve just over 3000 views.
Behringer have history do you remember the Auratone incident maybe not here a message about it from Alex Jacobsen of Auratone
      Hi all,
This is Alex Jacobsen with Auratone, grandson of the late Jack Wilson, the founder of Auratone and creator of the beloved 5C speaker. I'd like to help bring some clarity to this topic.
The Music Group/Behringer Auratone C5A and C50A are not related to us and our Auratone 5C in anyway. We have not sold nor licensed the brand. We are in a pending lawsuit with Music Group in US District Court regarding this matter.
There is also pending ligation in Europe in the EUIPO, and a decision in that case is imminent. All of these cases are of public record.
Auratone has been a family business for over 50 years, and we continue to operate as one, the way Jack would have wanted it. We look to carry on his legacy and are committed to protecting that.
      Alex
Behringer has also unsuccessfully tried to sue Dave Smith Instruments in the past and have now allegedly cloned Arturia’s Keystep, we'll have to wait to see what happens there,.my company Sinners Music could sell Behringer products and I have in the past but I refuse to have any involvement with this company now, and lastly this isn't misinformation Richard, you just have to do a little research to see the dodgy practices that are going on. Be well and take care Ian

      @richardsalazar4007 Před 3 lety +12

@@IanJCole Ian, I know all about Behringer and their dodgy business practices. I would never defend copyright infringement in the manner they do it. And Peter Kirn has every right to criticise and expose Behringer all he wants. But Behringer also have the right to their own opinions and in turn mock someone without being accused of things which are not true. I would not condone Behringer's business practices, but the incident brought up the ugly side of the internet. The ghastly SJW mob with their pitch forks and their vengeful lies. They took Peter's side trying to defend him but as usual took it way too far. But defend him from what? It was nothing but childish mocking, which in turn was twisted and turned into something far more sinister with fake anti Jewish connotations. And Ian, I disagree completely about you not using the situation for clout. You've obviously used a clickbait title, hoping for more exposure than you received, it just didn't work. The word bullying in this situation is very interesting, the way it was handled and portrayed actually had some people thinking maybe it's the other way around. Just take a look at your down votes....

No, a professional company exudes bullying and terrible taste for going after a man on a personal level. Imagine if Apple / Microsoft / Google did this against an individual because they expose that companies law suits? There’d be an outrage. The only reason why people like you defend Behringer is because they provide a wide range of affordable audio products and you’re scared the company would lose so much credibility that people would stop buying them and that would take away your source of affordable instruments/gear. Thats all there is to it.

But I'm going to be real, those pranks were all bloody hilarious. Come on, making a toy synth and saying he's going to name Kirn is a well played troll. If only this was his first and last time stealing trademarks, we would have believed him when he said he didn't mean it.

Firstly, I do think bullying on social media - we’ve all gotta take a stand against it.
And the antisemitic coincidence - I do believe that was an unintentional oversight, many people on Twitter etc have been misrepresenting it as deliberately racist and antisemitic, which I think is very bad of people. I think it is worse than the original oversight. Co-opting minority groups oppression, also it’s trivialising the seriousness off the history of antisemitism. It’s literally has the dangers of the tale of “the boy who cried wolf”.
I’m glad you (Ian) haven’t gone down that route.
Let’s be honest about recent history in the synth world, Behringer has been bashed excessively by many in the synth community, some of it justified, much of it isn’t. We do exist in neo liberal capitalism after all.
I’ve no doubt many people bashing Behringer with the racist stick is still part of the disgruntled bunch who are annoyed less wealthy people can afford behringer s lower cost gear.
Behringer has apologised, and they likely deleted it because it’s an absolute s***storm.
A journalist being mocked in such a way isn’t nice - but he isn’t being hounded by the press either, it seems the community has his back rather than Behringers, fair enough.
I don’t think it should be blown out of proportion though, considering the suicide of Caroline Flack due to media hounding - it’s not that bad, nowhere near.
I am far more disgusted by the people happily milking racism and antisemitism to bash Behringer.

    • @samwellboy
      @samwellboy Před 3 lety +3

Mr. Behringer claimed it was his marketing department that thought it up and released it - he didn't so much apologise as throw his own team under the bus. Which tells you something about the toxic atmosphere in which these people operate, an atmosphere of which also this "joke" is a nasty outcome. The antisemitic thing is just a cherry on top. I have no problem believing it's unintentional, but it's an unintentionality that displays an impressive amount of ignorance that's incompatible with giving a shit, especially for a GERMAN company.
Not buying any of their stuff anymore...

~ i've been buying synthesizers since '86 and this year i bought my first bery product, the K2, and i gave it a glowing review on gearslutz...But this is disgraceful behaviour and i'll be spending my retirement funds elsewhere from now on... ~
i appreciate that many have no option but to budget, something i was considering after being so impressed by the K2, - but no, - empathy, compassion and understanding have always been the three most important, guiding principles in my life, and behringer appears to be devoid of all three... I'm not familiar with peter, but even if he was being a dick, behringers actions are indefensible, in my personal opinion...
i feel sorry for those like Rob Keeble and others, i'm sure they would never behave in such a fashion, - but are now designing products within a corporation that appears to be so narcissistic, it has lost all sense of self-judgement..
i'll keep the K2, it's unbelievable value for money, compared to my vintage collection, ~ just a shame they didn't just let their products do the talking... i'm sure they'll continue to prosper anyhow...

And i've bought many fine products from Rob of AMSynths in the past as he lives quite local to me, and i know he'll be extremely disappointed by behringers recent behaviours... 100%
all a corporation is, is an organization, that acts as a single entity, - principles don't apply to most corporations, because as a collective they rarely have any, - as behringer, as a whole, has so clearly displayed...
what behringer are doing for the consumer is admirable, but the way they treat the industry is questionable, - as i stated before, they should just let their synthesizers speak for them... doepfer, roland and korg have never behaved this way, when people knocked their boutiques, volcas and utilitarian module designs, - what makes behringer so thin-skinned, - that's the real question, i mean, they're not exactly showing confidence in their own products by behaving in such a fashion, - why are they so defensive???

Used their V-Amp Pro for practice since 2005 or so up until yesterday (got a Mooer GE200 to replace lol), love their rip off of the metalzone (has some cool smoothness that the original doesn't have, probably a happy accident lol), etc. I think I have some other stuff too like a mixer. @@Vitaphone please show me an article of his that approaches Behringer in a similarly personal/disrespectful way, and I'd be happy to take your point into consideration. I have so far only seen criticisms directed at specific business practices that could have been refuted on their own merits. Behringer could've changed my mind in stead of making me suspect they're a bunch of edgy toddlers.

How sensitive we are all getting these days. Yeah maybe it was a bad joke. I saw this video and thought it was quite funnny. I did not know Mr. Kirn and also not his dispute with Behringer at that time. I took it as a general joke about synth snobs. I still see no anti-semitism in that video. If this is releated to german pictures from back then. They look very different. I own some Behringer synth and i like them quite a bit. I also own synth from Moog, Yamaha, Arturia, Roland and also like them a lot. Of course i am not that deep in to the synth community to know all the pro and cons of all the companies. But i am under the impression the Behringer is the no 1 disliked company in the synth scene at this time. Yes they copy old synth and make them available cheap. So what? This is old gear with run out patents. Other companies are doing this too. But of course not at that price level. Arp 2600 for example. I could understand the outrage if there was evidence that Behringer is exploiting his workers. Which I have not seen yet. So I have to give them the benefit of the doubt. I also think that most people that oppose Behringer do not give a shit about this when it comes to all the other companies in the market they buy stuff from. I bet most of them use Smart phones and do not care a little bit about the workers in China.

It wouldve been better had it been dirrected at synth snobs in general and not kirn specifically. Its still a stupid joke. But its also not malicious enough to qualify as bullying.

Who cares, as long as their synths sound right at a good price? No lack of so called bulling will replace what Behringer is doing for us! As artists, think of all the suffering we have had waiting for the gear Behringer has provided against all odds. Behringer, your not exactly perfect but I praise you. And thank you!!!! ingratitude is like a disgusting plague. Fight The Filth!

Bullying?? Oh, bunk THAT!! Peter Kirn is a public purveyor of his own opinions, and thus is fair game for backlash he garners for those opinions. If you can't take the heat, then stay out of the kitchen! And there was NOTHING antisemitic about it, no matter how badly you virtue-signaling fruits wanna make it out to be! In MY humble opinion, the only thing Behringer got wrong was the typo in the word "cork!"

I sometimes wish that people cared more about their own lives instead of "contributing" to something that doesn't concern them first person. What's the point anyway? Does anyone here really think that he can rightfully speak up for (or against, respectively) Behringer or Kirn? Let's be honest: Nobody knows what's been going on between these guys for the last few years.
Needless to say the we all could have easily done without this rather silly (and possibly counter-productive) Cork Sniffer video - but hey, nobody was seriously insulted or injured. So let's just go home, cool down... instead of playing high court.

First off your argument was fair & didn't pull the fake racist card that in no way applies, thanks. 2nd I've got a Octave CAT so I kinda see how those that don't like Behringer because they are remaking instruments that only they use to be able to own feel. But I love my Neutron & want the 2600.
Basically(not you obviously) a large majority that was very vocal about Behringer being evil for remaking vintage synths with a low asking price....& cloning was all they've been complaining about, not Kern, Smith, etc. They hijacked the conversation with the antisemitic talk. Never mentioning Kern is not a jew, even Kern said that. So we never really had the conversation/debate of the joke, which was ppl not judging synths by their sound but by who made them & not being honest about the product.
