    Terrific. Very innovative.
    I'm not sure why all the harshing on Sandvik in the comments. They've done very well by our machine shop. As to the comments on the software, I don't know the price, if any but it's probably very useful for determining speeds / feeds and surely one could input that data into their CAM or G-code.

    Remember those infernal "change gears" and all that tool grinding to get the correct angles and setting up the piece in the chuck correctly? Then setting the feed speed to get the desired finish. However, when you got this right the resulting product was a joy to see. Very frustrating for left handers like me as lathes were always right handed!
    This does make turning "look"easy though!

    Sandvik.Could the same not be done with a D or V style insert? The trailing angle will still offer a good amount of chip thinning.What is the difference between this insert and above? Is it the seating or the actual insert?

    these inserts are right and left ......... how would it be, if you hat one shank, with inserts on each side....on in m3 and one in m4, sure u need an Y.axis...but ...this would be nice for insert usage.... u could use every edge in every way ....think about it ;D

    Guys I need some more info, what is the advantage of changing the cutting direction? I can't see any difference if you have the same tool. Having an improved insert and a better program makes more sense.

    • @markpalaszewski8546
      @markpalaszewski8546 Před 7 lety +3

      H. Boer It is basically high feed turning with a wiper insert. High feed turning tools exist that work with conventional turning programming but will not allow you to get into a shaft shoulder due to the tool/insert geometry. Primeturning is essentially backwards high feed turning and allows the tool to machine shaft shoulders. The problen lies in the programming to use tooling of this type and also to limited parts it can do. Realistically you can approximate "Primeturning" with TNMG tooling and manual programming.

    • @henkiepie
      @henkiepie Před 7 lety

      Hmm so if I understand it just adds the possibilities of turning a shoulder with a wiper insert, by doing it backwards you can still wipe away from the shoulder. Makes sense. Thanks for the explanation!

      PrimeTurning method enables you to operate with smallest entering angles (25-30 deg) with higher cutting data parameters in new directions along with excellent chip control, higer metal removal rates and maintained tolerances. CoroTurn Prime tools and inserts with optimized geometries are specifically designed for turning away from the chuck. Attempting this with non-optimised tools and in absence of stable process may give unfavourable results. Learn more about PrimeTurning: www.sandvik.coromant.com/primeturning

    • @sandvikcoromant
      @sandvikcoromant  Před 7 lety

      Absolutely. CoroTurn Prime inserts can be used in conventional turning directions in lathe machine. However, the full potential (increased productivity and metal removal) of this tooling solution can be observed while machining in new directions. So much for Mazatrol! Wonder what the software and SMA will cost! Want to tweak your program because its not quite right? ...back to the PC to use Sandvik's proprietary software (geez how expensive does that sound!) Insert price? Cost per edge? Grade/chip former availability?

    • @sandvikcoromant
      @sandvikcoromant  Před 7 lety +1

      PrimeTurning™ completely redefines turning and presents enormous possibilities to do the same operation in much more efficient way as compared to conventional turning. Aim is to go one step further in order to achieve higher productivity, reduced cost per component and increased metal removal. While doing so it is important to ensure the process security and that’s where PrimeTurning™ code generator (software) comes in to picture. The user friendly design and compatibilty across all CNC machines using ISO codes makes it a true gain provider.

      send Abom few of these and let him test it out, if he says its better, then i will believe.

    • @markpalaszewski8546
      @markpalaszewski8546 Před 7 lety +2

      Guds777 Abom does not run an Integrex nor any CNC machines. Using Sandviks Primeturning on anything but a CNC is a complete waste. The only way you can justify the cost of the Primeturning tools/inserts/software is if you have the sheer quantity of parts. It is not meant for jobbing shops or short runs of anything less than say 50 parts or so. That is why you simply cannot just buy the Primeturning setup and go... you have to talk to Sandvik and they decide if it will work for you, your parts, material and processes. Otherwise every idiot will buy it and more than likley talk bad of it because they dont have the part volume to justify this type of machining not to mention 95% of machinists probably wouldn't even know how to run these tools or understand highfeed machining, chip thinning, etc. Sandvik are not just selling a new insert but a new technology that comes as a package with training. Primeturning does offer added productivity/speed at the expense of very specialised and niche use.

      Today there is no cast iron dedicated offer in PrimeTurning. For cast iron we recommend to use GC4325.

    Non-ISO tooling that can only be beneficial over current inserts in a multi-tasking machine, and cutting forces pull the part away from the chuck.... Sandvik doing the usual in trying to trap customers into their own proprietary products, for little apparent gain, at what is likely a Prime price...

    • @sandvikcoromant
      @sandvikcoromant  Před 7 lety +3

      Quite often tailored solutions are needed to further improve the set/optimised processes, be it in mass production or for machining large components, and PrimeTurning is the solution that will challenge the status-quo. PrimeTurning is not by any means restricted to multi-task machines and perfectly suited for machining with typical CNC turning centers.
