I was surprised by that since in the live episodes it was the other way around where Debra Messing and Sean Hayes kept breaking character, while Eric McCormack kept pretty composed.
You can see the door jiggle a little, but she is waiting for the laughter to peak, then she opens the door right when the laughter starts to come down so she gets an even bigger peak. Such a pro.
Ah prime Debra Messing, she pretty much saved the scene with her reaction, Eric was cracking up like this is gonna become an outtake isn't it, but Debra reacted perfectly staying in character like it wasn't even the first time that happened to Grace's mom, and Debbie being the pro that she was also took that opportunity for comedy gold and ran with it. This is why this show originally ended at the top of its success while the reboot ended up getting canceled, this is how i choose to remember it.
Debbie Reynolds was a class act! Despite her rumored sailor talk and great sense of humor, she was a legend! I will never forget seeing her in her early films dancing aside Donald O’Connor and Gene Kelly! She kept up with them both and held her own. It was a sight to see. I watch those scenes over and over and never get tired of them they were genius! I loved her and her work! RIP Debbie Reynolds
Debbie Reynolds was something else. Perhaps the last great Hollywood star. I will never forget the line: “ No pantie line.....no panties.” RIP great lady.
This is just one of those beautiful little gems that could never have been planned; it just happened, everyone went with it, and it worked! I love, love moments like this in tv and film.. Right off the bat it reminded me of an episode in Sanford and Son where Fred and Esther were arguing (as usual), and then in the heat of the moment Fred pulled off Esther's weave and ran off with it!! xDD You could tell it was unscripted because Desmond Wilson (who played Lamont) burst into complete laughter xD. I've watched and re-watched this way too many times already, lol... thank you for uploading it!
I think Grace was just meant to shut the door on her flamboyant, "annoying" mother in the midst of her dancing and singing, which would be funny... enough. But the incidental trapping of the fur boa... with some brief improv, made this scene. The director was happy that day.
Likely just something unscripted that happened and they decided to use it as the final cut. Hints of it being unscripted include laughter(breaking character) coming from the main actors.
I love how she just opens the door briefly, yanks the coat, and then slams the door as if it were scripted.
What's worrying is that someone can open the front door that easily.

You could totally tell that wasn't scripted, but got the biggest laugh. RIP funny lady.
Sometimes the best moments in movies or tv are the unscripted ones.
I totally laughed the hardest there.
L
I have always loved this scene. I love the fact the fur-trapping was completely unplanned. This is how I will remember the late great Debbie Reynolds.
As a fur trapper?
I love how Debra Messing just stares at the fur.
RIP Debbie Reynolds. She was a legend.
We really should give credit to Debra Messing for holding it together and staring blankly at the door. Eric McCormack clearly lost it.

@@GhostPirate6 I had the same thought but ig here he assumed they’d use a different take whereas there he knew it was all being watched
That's exaggerating. He laughed a bit but didn't "lose it".
I love that they kept this part in the show lmao
Her timing is the most remarkable thing. She leaves it just long enough but not too long

Icon. Legend. Will be so missed. RIP Debbie Reynolds

The reboot had a good run though lol.

She always knew how to make an entrance and exit.
I love it! And I like it more when you notice that it's totally improvised. We miss you, Debbie!!!
I love that Bobbi is basically Carrie Fishers version of Debbie Reynolds
Unforgettable moment and Debbie handled it so hilariously 🤣❤
I could watch that a thousand times and never tire of it. More like her, less Kartrashians
Frank Lars wow that’s pretty cool and. They all can exist in the same world !!! Wow I’m totally wowed by the distance u f
Love how they wait and watch to see how the veteran will handle this.
did you see Will laugh at 0:10? Priceless.
My favorite moment of the whole show.

great clip. I loved Debbie as Grace's mom!
only truely talented professionals can ab lib like that
These unscripted scenes they decided to keep, are the best!

Debbie ♥️

rip Debbie
oh, ahora q vuelve will&grace. hubiera sido genial un cap nuevo con debbie
r.i.p !
😂 Hahahahaha Eric McCormack trying to keep it together is hilarious.
I forgot about that episode lol 🤣
Fantastic impressionist, her ZsaZsa Gabor was better than ZsaZsa Gabor. Sad loss of a wonderful actress singer and dancer👍👍👍
Toooooo silly!! Can't help but laugh!!
This was a blooper they kept in
As Michael Caine would say - “use the difficultly”…
But she knew what to do
Absolutely loved this and so glad they kept it in. Does anyone know how the scene/episode was supposed to finish?

granny from halloween town.
I wish Will had kept a deadpan face like Grace, that would have made it perfect.
I wonder how many takes it took to get the fur in the door, or if it magically happened. RIP Debbie.
I think it was unscripted and they played it off. That's a talented bunch!

It was unscripted. Eric (Will) breaks character and Debra (Grace) just stares at the fur lol
I could see Shirley MacLaine as Bobbi Adler.
Loool
Great scene! Although it looks like blooper material , it could have been scripted. Great actors can make anything look natural.
That's the old school - don't shoot it again when you can edit the scene and make it look seamless.
Was that suppose to happen? Could not have been planned better!
Lol, 🤪😂😈
My favorite moment of the whole show.
