  • A Brian Brazeal hammer eye punch top tool.The first one I ever forged on my own. With Henrick Stark as my striker. Stock material was L6 thermodurable tool steel (56NiCrMoV7) in 1" round.

    Daniel you make excellent videos! you should consider making a full length instructional video for at-home learning! I would buy one!!!
    If you have done this already, please set a link. Thanks so much!

    Not bad! :) That steel looked quite tough.

    That was great! Just put the order in for steel I'll need to make one myself. What is the cloth under the fuller being used for? To keep it from bouncing around?

    Glück auf Kammeraden
    Sehr gut gemacht! Weiter so!
    Einzige Empfehlung: den Kaltschmied holt der Teufel! -> du hast nach oben noch gute 250° Spielraum, quäle dich also ned mit dem halbwarmen Eisen!
    In diesem Sinne: weiter so und drannbleiben UJ

    Daniel,
    Another great video. My German is pretty lousy, but I don't think anyone would mind if you mixed it up a little and threw some German in. I know it would be interesting to hear the German expressions involved in blacksmithing.
    Oh, and I am still waiting for BBC to pick you and Alec up for some kind of TV show. What's the German equivalent? we have PBS in the US.
    Stay safe!
    Albert

    Daniel, great work, I know you said you started with 1" round but how long is it? Lyle is coming to my shop the end of the month to a hammer and tool workshop for us A.F.C.
    Thanks!

    Hi Daniel! warum machst du keine deutschen Videos?
    Ich finde deine Videos auch echt toll(ich will auch so gut schmieden wie Du!).
    Als kleiner tip: wichtige Arbeitsschritte nicht herausschneden( zB die spitze abschroten)

    So you use a eye punch to make an eye punch
    How do you make one without the eye punch

    • @99pppo
      @99pppo  Před 8 lety +4

      You first forge a hand held eye punch which has the same type of tip and do it with that. Then the next time you used the one you made.

    Hallo Michael,
    ich habe sehr viele Freunde, die kein Deutsch sprechen und noch mehr Leute, die was lernen wollen, die auch kein Deutsch sprechen. Kleine Statistik zu dem Video: Von aktuell 748 sind 316 views USA, 63 GB und Kanada zusammen, die restlichen andere Länder und nur 62 aus Deutschland und 6 aus Österreich und 4 aus der Schweiz.

    hi Daniel what can a person use to punch a eye in material if they don't have a hammer eye punch tool ? where can a person get L6 tool steel as they call it somthing else here in ireland

    • @99pppo
      @99pppo  Před 8 lety +1

      +Robert Stoker Hello Robert, you can forge a tool with a similarely shaped tip just from round bar (i.e. a car spring) and use it hand held to make your first tools.
      Here you find some more information on the steel: www.basedosteel.com/en/materials/material/12714.html

      Jared L more than likely not. Seeing as who it's inspired by. Plus you don't want to harden striking tools. Good way to get a piece of ballistic metal going your way. Use 4340 steel even without hardening it it'll take a beating

    Why l-6 instead of say H-13?

    • @99pppo
      @99pppo  Před 9 lety

      Because H-13 is not designed to be forged. Thus it is very difficult to forge it into the shape of a tool like this and maintenance is also a pain in the ass. L6 on the other hand was designed to be forged and still has incredible hot working strength and durability. That‘s why.

      adam anthoni Yea you always have to look at what these steels were designed for and what purpose you need them for.
